  • The unmanned vehicle is composed of three parts the front & side sensor system for keeping the lane and avoiding obstacles, the acceleration & brake control system for longitudinal motion control, and the steering control system for the lateral motion control. Each system helps the unmanned vehicle of which should take notice of its location and recognize obstacles around the place by itself and make a decision how much fast to proceed according to circumstances. During the operation, the control strategy that the vehicle can detect obstacles and avoid collision on the road involves with vehicle velocity very much. Therefore, We have to define a traction system which is powered by DC motor so that, unmanned vehicle can control its velocity accurately. In this study, we find mechanical and ...

  • The control system design and modeling of an unmanned vehicle by means of a new concept for better performance through a tole-operation system is suggested by sensor fusion. But, the control of a real vehicle is very difficult, because the system identification of the vehicle is hard to find the unknown factors and the disturbances of the experimental environment. For the longitudinal and lateral controls, the traction system and steering system models are set up and a tuning method to find the gain of the controller by experiments is presented. In this research, mechanical and electronic parts are implemented to operate the unmanned vehicle and data reconstruction method of information about the environment data coming from several sensors is presented by data plot for the vehicle navigation. This paper focuses on the integration of tole-operated unmanned vehicle. This vehicle mainly controlled lateral and longitudinal directions with actuators for controlling vehicle movement and sensors for the closed-loop controlled system.

  • In this paper, a controller based on repetitive learning control is designed to control an unmanned surface vessel with nonlinear characteristics and unknown parameters. First, we define the equations of motion and error system of the unmanned vessel, and then design an repetitive learning controller composed of system error and estimated unknown parameters based on repetitive learning control and adaptive control. The stability of the unmanned vessel model controlled by the designed controller is verified through the analysis of the Lyapunov stability. Simulation shows that the error converges asymptotically to zero with semi-global result, confirming that the unmanned vessel is moving toward a given ideal path, and verifies that the controller is also feasible.

  • In order for a vehicle to follow a predetermined trajectory accurately, its position must be estimated accurately and reliably. In this thesis, we propose trajectory tracking control methods for unmanned vehicle and a positioning system using ultrasonic wave. The positioning problem is an important part of control problem for unmanned navigation of a vehicle. Dead Reckoning is widely used for positioning of vehicle. However this method has problems because it accumulates estimation errors. We propose a new method to increase the accuracy of position estimation using the Ultrasonic Satellite System (USAT). It is shown that we will be able to estimate the position of vehicle precisely, in which errors are not accumulated. And proposed trajectory tracking control methods include both a new path planning method and a lateral control method for vehicle. The experimental results show that the proposed methods enables exact vehicle trajectory tracking even under various environmental factors.

  • This paper describes development of automatic flight control system for an unmanned target drone which is operated by Korean army as for anti-air gun shooting training. Current target drone is operated by pilot control of on-board servo motor via remote control system. Automatic flight control system for the target drone greatly reduces work load of ground pilot and can increase application area of the drone. Most UAVs being operated now days use high-priced sensors as AHRS and IMU to measure the attitude, but those are costly. This paper introduces the development of low-cost automatic flight control system with low-cost sensors. The integrated automatic flight control system has been developed by integrating combining power module, switching module, monitoring module and RC receiver as an one module. The performance of automatic flight control system is verified by flight test.

  • An unmanned ground vehicle can perform its mission automatically without human control in unknown environment. To move up to a destination in various surrounding situation, navigational information is indispensible. In order to be adopted for an unmanned vehicle, the navigation box is small, light weight and low power consumption. This paper suggests navigation system using a low grade MEMS IMU for supplying position, velocity, and attitude of an unmanned ground vehicle. This system consists of low cost and light weight MEMS sensors and a GPS receiver to meet unmanned vehicle requirements. The sensors are basically integrated by loosely coupled method using Kalman filter and internal algorithms are divided into initial alignment, sensor error compensation, and complex navigation algorithm. The performance of the designed navigation system has been analyzed by real time field test and compared to commercial tactical grade GPS/INS system.

  • In this paper, we propose an obstacle avoidance system for an unmanned ship to navigate safely in dynamic environments. Also, in this paper, one-dimensional low-cost lidar sensor is used, and a servo motor is used to implement the lidar sensor in a two-dimensional space. The distance and direction of an obstacle are measured through the two-dimensional lidar sensor. The unmanned ship is controlled by the application at a Tablet PC. The user inputs the coordinates of the destination in Google maps. Then the position of the unmanned ship is compared with the position of the destination through GPS and a geomagnetic sensor. If the unmanned ship finds obstacles while moving to its destination, it avoids obstacles through a fuzzy control-based algorithm. The paper shows that the experimental results can effectively construct an obstacle avoidance system for an unmanned ship with a low-cost LiDAR sensor using fuzzy control.

  • The use of unmanned combat systems is of interest for future battlefield. Advanced techniques are being actively studied to build fully autonomous unmanned systems. However, there are technical, ethical and legal limitations for the fully autonomous unmanned combat systems. In addition, a remote controlled system is necessary so far in order to prepare for situations where fully autonomous unmanned systems fail to function properly. Thus, a procedure of developing operational requirements in system level is proposed and interface requirements of unmanned combat vehicles for remote control are described in this study.

Among these systems, the obstacle detecting system is a driving assistance system of UGV. Through the UGV is driving, the system detects obstacles such as cars, human, tree, curb and hills and then send information of obstacles position to integration system for safety driving. In this research, the obstacle detecting system is composed of 5 laser scanners and develop algorithms of detecting obstacles, curb, uphill and downhill road.

  • Transmission delay and packet loss induced by a communication network can degrade the control performance and, even make the system unstable. This paper presents a method for compensating transmission delay and packet loss in a networked control system for unmanned underwater vehicle. The proposed method is based on Lagrange interpolation in order to satisfy the requirements of simplicity and model-independency. In this work, the lost/delayed data are estimated in real time by only using the past data without requiring any mathematical model of the controlled system. Consequently, the proposed method can be implemented independent of the controlled system, and also it can achieve fast and accurate compensation performance. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated by numerical simulations with an unmanned underwater vehicle.
