압밀응력비에 따른 낙동강모래의 비배수전단거통 특성 (Variation of Undrained Shear Behavior with Consolidation Stress Ratio of Nakdong River Sand)

  • 본 연구에서는 낙동강 하류 을숙도에 분포하는 0.558%의 세립분을 함유한 자연 사질토 지반에 대하여 느슨, 중간, 그리고 조밀한 지반 상태를 재현하여 초기정적전단응력의 영향을 정적 및 동적 시험을 통해 응력경로와 과잉간극수압 소산 및 잔류변형 거동을 규명하고, Bolton 이론에 의거한 파괴시 최대 유효마찰각을 상대밀도에 의한 영향과 구속압의 영향을 고려하여 제시하였다. 파괴선과 상전이점의 거리는 초기전단응력이 증가할수록 가까워지고, 느슨한 모래의 경우 그 영향이 커서 조밀한 모래의 응력경로로 접근하는 경향을 보인다. 압밀응력비 조건이 1.4에서 1.8로 변함에 따라, 상대밀도의 증가와 함께 보다 큰 액상화 저항강도를 보이고 조밀한 상대밀도 조건에서는 유사한 CSR값을 보였다.

Physical and numerical modelling of the inherent variability of shear strength in soil mechanics

  • In this study the spatial variability of soils is substantiated physically and numerically by using random field theory. Heterogeneous samples are fabricated by combining nine homogeneous soil clusters that are assumed to be elements of an adopted random field. Homogeneous soils are prepared by mixing different percentages of kaolin and bentonite at water contents equivalent to their respective liquid limits. Comprehensive characteristic laboratory tests were carried out before embarking on direct shear experiments to deduce the basic correlations and properties of nine homogeneous soil clusters that serve to reconstitute the heterogeneous samples. The tests consist of Atterberg limits, and Oedometric and unconfined compression tests. The undrained shear strength of nine soil clusters were measured by the unconfined compression test data, and then correlations were made between the water content and the strength and stiffness of soil samples with different consistency limits. The direct shear strength of heterogeneous samples of different stochastic properties was then evaluated by physical and numerical modelling using FISH code programming in finite difference software of $FLAC^{3D}$. The results of the experimental and stochastic numerical analyses were then compared. The deviation of numerical simulations from direct shear load-displacement profiles taken from different sources were discussed, potential sources of error was introduced and elaborated. This study was primarily to explain the mathematical and physical procedures of sample preparation in stochastic soil mechanics. It can be extended to different problems and applications in geotechnical engineering discipline to take in to account the variability of strength and deformation parameters.

Effects of freeze-thaw cycle on mechanical properties of saline soil and Duncan-Chang model

  • In order to study the mechanical propertied and change rules of undrained shear behavior of saline soil under the freeze-thaw cycles, an improved constitutive model reflecting the effects of freeze-thaw cycles was proposed based on the traditional Duncan-Chang model. The saline soil in Qian'an County, western Jilin Province, was selected as the experimental object. Then, a set of freeze-thaw cycles (0, 1, 10, 30, 60, 90, 120) tests were conducted on the saline soil specimens, and conventional consolidated undrained triaxial shear tests were conducted on the saline soil specimens that underwent freeze-thaw cycles. The stress-strain relationship was obtained by the triaxial shear test. The model parameters have a corresponding regression relationship with the number of freeze-thaw cycles. Finally, based on the function expression of the model parameters, the modified Duncan-Chang model with the number of freeze-thaw cycles as the influence factor was established, whilst the calculation program of the modified model is compiled. Based on the test results, the stress-strain relationship of the saline soil specimen shows strain hardening. The shear strength gradually decreases with the increase of freeze-thaw cycle. The 10 freeze-thaw cycles are the turning point in the trend of changes of the mechanical properties of saline soils. The calculated and experimental stress-strain relationship are compared, and the comparison between the calculated value of the model and the experimental value showed that the two had a good consistency, which verified the validity of the modified Duncan-Chang model in reflecting the effects of the freeze-thaw cycle.

아산만 해성토의 응력 -변형률 거동 (The Stress -Strain Behavior of Asan Marine Soil)

  • 본 연구에서는 아산만 지역의 해안 연약층에서 채취한 해성토의 거동을 자동화된 삼축실험기를 사용하여 비배수 상태하에서 실내실험과 모델예측을 수행하여 파괴전과 파괴상태시 응력-변형률 상태를 점토질 및 실트질 흙과 비교분석하였다. 채취한 해성토는 실트질 70%와 점토질 30%가 섞인 혼합토로 현장의 비교란 시료와 이를 재 성형한 시료의 2종류로 만들어 400kpa인 유효구속압력까지 등방압밀 시킨 후 압밀하중을 감소시키며 구속압이 각각 400, 200, 100, 67kpa인 경우에 비배수 상태로 삼축압축 및 인장실험을 하였다. 본 연구결과 모든 시료의 극한상태를 연결하면 일정한 파괴선에 도달하였으며 이때 파괴선은 순수점토나 실트에 비해서는 그 기울기에 차이가 있었다. 또한 정규압밀된 아산만 해성토에서는 전단초기에는 순수점토와 유사하게 전단하에서는 양의 간극수압이 발생하여 P'이 계속 감소하나 실트질에서 나타나는 상태변형선을 지나서는 체적팽창경향이 나타나며 전단강도가 증가하고 있다. 과압밀 시료는 체적변형 경향으로 순수실트와는 상당히 다른 거동을 보임을 알 수 있었다. 수정 Camflay모델 및 항복경계면 모델을 사용하여 예측한 결과 정규압밀된 경우에는 최대강도 이전까지는 실제거동을 적절히 예측할 수 있었으나 과압밀비$(2\leqOCR\leq6)$가 커질수록 그 거동에는 정량적인 차이를 보임을 알 수 있었다.

부산 임기광산 광미의 전단속도에 따른 링 전단특성 연구 (Shear-Rate Dependent Ring-Shear Characteristics of the Waste Materials of the Imgi Mine in Busan)

  • 휴 폐광산지는 산발생, 지하수 오염뿐만 아니라 침식 및 산사태 등 다양한 물리화학적 지질재해에 노출되어 있다. 임기광산 폐석적치장 광미를 대상으로 링 전단시험을 수행하여 전단속도에 따른 전단특성을 조사하고 한다. 본 연구에 있어 마찰저항을 최소화할 목적으로 링 전단상자 오링(O-ring)은 전단동안 회전이 가능하도록 설계되었다. 1차 시험은 일정한 수직응력(50kPa)과 전단속도(0.1mm/sec) 조건에서 전단시간에 따른 전단응력을 조사하였다. 2차 시험은 일정한 수직응력 조건에서 전단속도를 0.01, 0.1, 1, 10, 50, 100mm/sec로 순차적으로 증가시켜 전단속도에 따른 전단응력을 조사하였다. 3차 시험은 일정한 전단속도(0.1mm/sec)하에서 수직응력을 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 150kPa로 증가시켜 각 경우에 대한 전단응력을 조사하였다. 시험결과에 따르면, 배수조건에 관계없이 임기광산 폐석적치장광미시료는 전단연화거동(strain softening behavior)을 보였다. 특히 전단속도가 10mm/sec보다 작은 경우 잔류전단응력은 100~300초 사이에 일정한 값에 도달하는 것으로 나타났다. 2차와 3차 시험결과에 따르면, 배수조건에 관계없이 전단응력은 전단속도와 수직응력의 함수로 나타났다. 하지만, 배수조건에 따라 링 전단상자 전단부에서 상이한 입자파쇄 특성이 관측되었다. 배수조건시 전단상자 전단면에서 하단까지 넓은 전단띠가 형성된 것에 반해, 비배수조건시 전단면에 국부 전단띠가 형성되었다. 이러한 점에 비추어 볼 때, 전단속도에 따른 입자파쇄 특성은 산사태 유동성을 높이는 중요한 인자로 판단된다.

1차원 압밀점토의 응력해방에 의한 수직변형량과 현장재현 압밀시험에 관한 연구 (A study on reappeared consolidation test of in-situ property and vertical deformation of sample due to stress release)

  • When a saturated clay is sampled in an undisturbed manner from a bore hole, the sample extends vertically and shrinks horizontally under undrained conditions due to stress release. The conventional consolidation test specimen is trimmed from the expanded sample so that its diameter is equal to the inner diameter of the consolidation test ring, this test procedure does not reproduce the actual consolidation behavior. The measurement of sample extension was conducted by means of overcoring method found that the extension strains were 1 to 2%. To simulate the in-situ consolidation behavior, the consolidation test method that uses a specimen with a slightly smaller diameter than the inside diameter of consolidometer so that the specimen expands laterally to the inside of the ring.

표준압밀시험에 의한 점토의 초기탄성계수 산정 (The Estimation of Initial Elastic Modulus of Clay by Standard Consolidation Test)

  • Unlike artificially created homogeneous materials, the process of calculating the elastic modulus of natural soil involves the possibility of errors. Because the stress-strain behavior of soil is nonlinear, the secant modulus of elasticity is often used based on 1/2 of the stress at failure. Since soil has the property of changing its elastic modulus depending on the confining pressure, numerical analysis models that analyze its behavior inevitably include complex elements. The hyperbolic model, which relatively accurately simulates the behavior immediately after loading in soft ground, assumes that the stress-strain curve of the consolidated undrained triaxial test is hyperbolic and requires the slope of the tangent line at the starting point. However, the slope of the initial tangent in the stress-strain curve obtained from an actual triaxial test is difficult to have regularity according to changes in confining pressure. Additionally, due to the characteristics of a hyperbola, even small changes in related factors cause large changes in the hyperbola. Therefore, there is a lot of randomness in the process of calculating model parameters from the triaxial test results, which causes large differences in the results. Therefore, the method of calculating the initial elastic modulus by the consolidation test presented in this study is also used to verify the method by the triaxial test. It can be applied. However, since this study was applied to only one sample showing typical consolidation characteristics, it is necessary to check samples with various physical properties in the future.

포화된 사질토에서 등방재하시험에 의한 비배수 공극수압의 거동분석 (Analysis of the Behavior of Undrained Pore Water Pressure in Saturated Sand by Isotropic Loading Test)

  • It is known in some literatures that the B value is not equal to unity in saturated soil when effective stress is given, in which the B Value is the ratio of measured excess pore water pressure and isometric loading pressure. In this study the B value was measured on various effective stresses and on various incremental loading stresses in various grain size of specimens with saturated sand. The test results showed that the B value was affected largely by grain size of sand in specimen and the amount of effective stress. There was the semi-logarithmic relationship between B value and effective stress, and also there was the linear relationship between the gradient of the former semi-logarithmic relationship and grain size of specimen.

고준위폐기물 차폐용 압축벤토나이트의 응력-변형률 거동 분석 (A Study on Stress-Strain Characteristics of Compacted Bentonite for High-Level Radioactive Waste Repository)

  • The stress-strain characteristics of compacted bentonite are investigated using experimental triaxial compression test by Hoek-cell. Special attention given to various dry density and water absorption ratio. Based on the test results, it is shown that the stress-strain relationship of compacted bentonite is highly influenced by dry density and water absorption ratio. Also, characteristics of Bentonite is similar to the clay rather than sand. Strength of compressed Bentonite increases with higher dry density. It shows maximum strength value, if in a same condition with dry density and constrain pressure. So we determine that value as the optimistic moisture contents for the maximun strength of compressed Bentonite.

Development of an integrated Web-based system with a pile load test database and pre-analyzed data

  • A Web-based pile load test (WBPLT) system was developed and implemented in this study. Object-oriented and concept-based software design techniques were adopted to integrate the pile load test database into the system. A total of 673 case histories of pile load test were included in the database. The data consisted of drilled shaft and driven precast concrete pile axial load tests in drained, undrained, and gravel loading conditions as well as pre-analyzed data and back-calculated design parameters. Unified modeling language, a standard software design tool, was utilized to design the WBPLT system architecture with five major concept-based components. These components provide the static structure and dynamic behavior of system message flows in a visualized manner. The open-source Apache Web server is the building block of the WBPLT system, and PHP Web programming language implements the operation of the WBPLT components, particularly the automatic translation of user query into structured query language. A simple search and inexpensive query can be implemented through the Internet browser. The pile load test database is helpful, and data can be easily retrieved and utilized worldwide for research and advanced applications.
