The past two decades have witnessed an upsurge in the appreciation of adipose tissue (AT) as an immunometabolic hub harbouring heterogeneous cell populations that collectively fine-tune systemic metabolic homeostasis. Technological advancements, especially single-cell transcriptomics, have offered an unprecedented opportunity for dissecting the sophisticated cellular networks and compositional dynamics underpinning AT remodelling. The "re-discovery" of functional brown adipose tissue dissipating heat energy in human adults has aroused tremendous interest in exploiting the mechanisms underpinning the engagement of AT thermogenesis for combating human obesity. In this review, we aim to summarise and evaluate the use of single-cell transcriptomics that contribute to a better appreciation of the cellular plasticity and intercellular crosstalk in thermogenic AT.

This paper aims to present accurately analytical modeling method for underpinning using uncertainty reduction, obtained from comparison between numerical analysis and Site measuring data during construction and service stages. Combination of various conditions should be considered for using numerical analysis to predict the behavior of the structure accurately, even though complexly considered the conditions, real construction should be secured the stability by applying the actual instrument measurement data because predicted results are including the considerable uncertainty. In order to secure the stability during construction, the real time instrument measurements together with numerical analysis results performed before construction state are complementary used actively. From the results of this study, the significant settlements are occurred not only in underpass structure of adjacent excavation area but also in the permanent steel pipe structures were analyzed. From the site measurement results of underpass settlement, the settlements are occurred in every stages of excavation, furthermore observed tendency is asymmetrical excavation patterns are settled more than symmetrical excavation patterns. The essential consideration points for numerical analysis are construction sequence, the direction of the existing facilities, the methods of elements modeling, the applied factors for nature of material and different results would be occurred depending upon inputting the above factors.

The use of Compaction Grouting evolved in the 1950's to correct structural settlement of buildings. Over the almost 50 years, the technology has developed and is currently used in wide range of applications. Compaction Grouting, the injection of a very stiff, 'zero-slump' mortar grout under relatively high pressure, displaces and compacts soils. It can effectively repair natural or man-made soil strength deficiencies in variety of soil formations. Major uses of Compaction Grouting include densifying loose soils or fill voids caused by sinkholes, poorly compacted fills, broken utilities, improper dewatering, or soft ground tunneling excavation. Other application include preventing liquefaction, re-leveling settled structures, and using compaction grout bulbs as structural elements of minipiles or underpinning. The technique replaced slurry injection, or 'pressure grouting', as the preferred method of densification grouting. There are several reasons for the increased use of Compaction Grouting which can be summarized in one word: CONTROL. The low slump grout and injection processes are usually designed to keep the grout in a homogeneous mass at the point of injection, while acceptable in some limited applications, tends to quickly get out of control. Hydraulic soil fracturing can cause extensive grout travel, often well beyond the desired treatment zone. So, on the basis of the two case history constructed in recent year, a study has been peformed to analyze the basic mechanism of the Compaction Grouting and verify the effectiveness of the ground improvement using some test methods.

Also, the effectiveness of the ground improvement and the bearing capacity of the compaction pile has been verified by the Cone Penetration Test(CPT) and Load Test. Relatively uniform compaction grouting column could be maintained by planning the quality control in the course of grouting. And, the Qualify Control Plan has been conceived using grout pressure, volume of grout and drilling depth.
Girdling underpinning joints are key areas of concern for the pier-cutting bridge-lifting process. In this study, five specimens of an underpinning joint were prepared by varying the cross-sectional shape of the respective column, the process used to treat the beam-column interface (BCI), and the casting process. These specimens were subsequently analyzed through static failure tests. The BCI was found to be the weakest area of the joint, and the specimens containing a BCI underwent punching shear failure. The top of the girdling beam (GB) was subjected to a circumferential tensile force during slippage failure. Compared to the specimens with a smooth BCI, the specimens subjected to chiseling exhibited more pronounced circumferential compression at the BCI, which in turn considerably increased the shear capacity of the BCI and the ductility of the structure. The GB for the specimens containing a column with a circular cross-section exhibited better shear mechanical properties than the GB of other specimens. The BCI in specimens containing a column with a circular cross-section was more ductile during failure than that in specimens containing a column with a square cross-section.

This paper provides an account of gamification in education. Apart from its emergence, it clarifies how gamification differs from gaming and game-based learning. It also discusses the elements of gamification, its advantages and its principles. It also sketches the theoretical underpinning of the concept, the models, its various applications, and the obstacles to using it in the educational process.

This paper concerns a case study on the design concept, analysis, construction methodology of a subway tunnel excavated in the soft ground beneath an existing building where the distance between the bottom of the building and the crown of the tunnel is separated by about 3 meters only. The silot tunnels are excavated in advance, and side reinforced-concrete walls are installed. Then, main tunnels are excavated with ring cut method. The steel ribs are installed and supported by the side walls made in advance. Between the steel ribs and the side walls, the screw jack is installed to apply prestressing so that settlement can be controlled at minimum. Various in-situ seasurements are made and compared with computed values obtained by numerical methods. By choosing this underpinning method with very caraful construction control, tunnelling projects could be finished successfully without having any damage to the building located very closely to the tunnel crown.

Prediction of customer failure rates plays an important role for establishing appropriate management policies and improving the profitability for industries. For these reasons, many LCD (Liquid crystal display) manufacturing industries have attempted to construct prediction models for customer failure rates. However, most traditional models are based on the parametric approaches requiring the assumption that the data follow a certain probability distribution. To address the limitation posed by the distributional assumption underpinning traditional models, we propose using parameter-free data mining models for predicting customer failure rates. In addition, we use various information associated with product attributes and field return for more comprehensive analysis. The effectiveness and applicability of the proposed method were demonstrated with a real dataset from one of the leading LCD companies in South Korea.
