  • This study focuses on examining the determinants of smartphone-based social network services(SNS) use. That is, the study explores the key factors affecting the use of smartphone-based SNS. People who have been using online-based SNS such as Cyworld and Facebook for years are now using mobile-based SNS such as KakaoStory. Under the situation. the study attempts to draw key determinants of smartphone-based SNS use from the studies of TAM, hedonic information systems, and social perspectives. To test the hypotheses, we conducted partial least squares (PLS) analysis using a total of 233 data collected on the users of smartphone-based SNS including KakaoTalk and KakaoStory. The key findings are as follows : first, it is verified that both ease of use and usefulness, two main factors in TAM, had positive effects on smartphone-based SNS use. Second, for enjoyment and escapism considered as the two main factors of hedonic IS characteristics, only the effect of enjoyment on SNS use was significant. Finally, social ties as a factor of social characteristics had the most significant effect on smartphone-based SNS use. The result implies that smartphone-based SNS can be one of the major means of maintaining existing social ties.

가정용 13mm 수도계량기 미감지율 조사연구 (A Study on Under-registration of 13mm Water Meters)

  • Unaccounted-for water subtracting water sold from produced water includes leakage, under-registration, unauthorized use, etc. To improve accounted-for water ratio, firstly, it should be attempted to accurately identify where unaccounted-for water is, and then it must to be reduced. Under-registration of meter is caused by allowable tolerance of meter, improper size of meter installed, gradient installation, etc. Under-registered water of meters has ever been the second large amount of unaccounted-for water next to leakage, but still is not estimated exactly. In this study, the estimated value as under-registered water was obtained by using the selected-area modeling program. As a result, the under-registered water ratio of 13mm meters was approximately 1.23%. Those of meters according to ages 1, 3, and, 5 years old were 1.46% 2.77% and, 2.26%, respectively but that of 7 years old meters showed over-registration of 1.59%.

Characterizations of Denitrifying Polyphosphate-accumulating Bacterium Paracoccus sp. Strain YKP-9

  • A denitrifying polyphosphate-accumulating bacterium (YKP-9) was isolated from activated sludge of a 5-stage biological nutrient removal process with step feed system. This organism was a Gram-negative, coccus-shaped, facultative aerobic chemoorganotroph. It had a respiratory type of metabolism with oxygen, nitrate, and nitrite as terminal electron acceptors. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain YKP-9 was most similar to the 16S rRNA gene sequence of Paracoccus sp. OL18 (AY312056) (similarity level, 97%). Denitrifying polyphosphate accumulation by strain YKP-9 was examined under anaerobic-anoxic and anaerobic-oxic batch conditions. It was able to use external carbon sources for polyhydroxyalkanoates(PHA) synthesis and to release phosphate under anaerobic condition. It accumulated polyphosphate and grew a little on energy provided by external carbon sources under anoxic condition, but did neither accumulate polyphosphate nor grow in the absence of external carbon sources under anoxic condition. Cells with intracellular PHA cannot accumulate polyphosphate in the absence of external carbon sources under anoxic condition. Under oxic condition, it grew but could not accumulate polyphosphate with external carbon sources. Based on the results from this study, strain YKP-9 is a new-type denitrifying polyphosphate-accumulating bacterium that accumulates polyphosphate only under anoxic condition, with nitrate and nitrite as the electron acceptors in the presence of external carbon sources.

전문직 취업모의 자녀관리 현황조사 (A Survey of the Current Child Care Practices of Professional Working Mothers)

  • The present study investigated the current child care practices of professional working mothers in Korea and their needs for substitute child care outside the home. Three hundred twenty-two professional working mothers who have children under 6 years of age in Seoul, Pusan, Taegu, and Taejon were surveyed with the use of a questionnaire. It was found that during their working hours, most of the professional working mothers put their children in the care of either the paternal or the maternal grandmothers. Others put the children in the care of a full-time housekeeper or a part-time housekeeper. While all the mothers had worked out a way to care for their children, almost all of them would use day care if facilities were available. Specifically, 42 per cent prefer child care at their work site, 21 per cent prefer family day care, and only 3 per cent indicated that they would not use any child care facilities. Most of the working mothers think that their employer should manage the day care program. Others prefer social agency or government management. Regarding costs, most prefer that costs should be split 50-50 between the employer and the family. In addition, professional working mothers wanted quality programs with educational components rather than mere custodial care. It was concluded that variety in types of quality child care programs should be available to provide working mothers the options of choosing what they want for their children. The main type of programs suggested by this study is work site based child care for children under 3 years of age. The existing law for the Saemaul Nursery School program should be implemented so as to include programs for children under 3.

  • The main goal of this paper is to investigate and compare English, German and Korean non-head-bound-intensifiers such as English ‘x-self’, German ‘selbst’, and Korean ‘susulo, casin’. That is, this paper is mainly concerned with the semantic domain where the respective contributions of the expressions in question overlap. The phenomenon under discussion with the label “intensifiers” is regarded as universal, which provides the ground of the comparative/contrastive or semi-cross-linguistic study of this paper. Not only the semantic concept of intensification by these expressions but also the combination of grammatical features or syntactic behaviours thereof seem to have highly invariant common denominators among the wide varieties of languages, even if they come from apparently different language families. In comparing English, German and Korean intensifiers, this paper is interested in the more general features of the expressions in question rather than some language-specific idiocyncracies. Intensifiers work similarly not only in English and German, but also in Korean. Each of three languages under investigation provides some sort of a safegard against confusing instances and misleading judgements on the issues under discussion. Morphologically, however, English expressions in question agree with their rele-vant NP in number, gender and person. Whereas German and Korean counterparts do not have such specific morphological properties. Intensifiers in their non-head-bound-use are subject-oriented, just as in their head-bound use. Non-head-bound-intensifiers differ from head-bound-intensifiers mostly in their syntactic behaviours or distributional properties, whereas they share the semantic domain “intensification” regarding relevant subject-NP. They introduce an ordering and distinguish center and periphery, and ‘self-involvement (directness of involvement)’seems a additional possible characterisation of the relevant dimension of these intensifiers in common.   • With the efforts to development of renewable energy technologies, and increasing awareness to environmental issues, the usage of wood pallets has been increasing every year since the introduction of wood pallet technology to the domestic market. until 2009, majority usage of pellet boiler was in the residential houses. In an effort to increase the distribution of wood pellet boiler to cultivation facilities with high usage of fuels, The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has launched a distribution project of wood pellet boiler for fuel usage as a part of the agricultural and fishery energy efficiency projects. Although only small number of farms with a heat-culturing facility have replaced from conventional boiler to pellet boiler. Although part of reason for low usage of pallet boiler is lack of understanding and information of it, the main reasons are high initial cost and uncertainty of its cost efficiency. Also, most people from agricultural industry don't realize it's significance in terms of environmental benefit due to lack of understanding in 'resource circulation' and 'adopting to climate change'. In this study, first, we did a cost-efficiency analysis of the farm which uses a diesel boiler to grow cucumber, tomato, paprika. Then we replaced the diesel boiler to a pallet boiler and measured its cost-efficiency again. By comparing the cost-efficiency of the diesel boiler with the pellet boiler, we analyzed the economic viability of pellet boiler. Then we analyzed viability of pallet boiler usage in terms of 'resource circulation' and 'adopting to climate change'. As a result of our analysis, we have found out that under the current system of government support, the energy usage varies depends of the types crops grown and the higher the energy use, the more cost efficient it is to use the pallet boiler. Also, it is economically viable to use the pallet boiler in terms of 'resource circulation' and 'adopting to climate change'.

Flexural performance of composite walls under out-of-plane loads

  • This paper presents a new structural system to use as retaining walls. In civil works, there is a general trend to use traditional reinforced concrete (RC) retaining walls to resist soil pressure. Despite their good resistance, RC retaining walls have some disadvantages such as need for huge temporary formworks, high dense reinforcing, low construction speed, etc. In the present work, a composite wall with only one steel plate (steel-concrete) is proposed to address the disadvantages of the RC walls. In the proposed system, steel plate is utilized not only as tensile reinforcement but also as a permanent formwork for the concrete. In order to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed SC composite system, an experimental program that includes nine SC composite wall specimens is developed. In this experimental study, the effects of different parameters such as distance between shear connectors, length of shear connectors, concrete ultimate strength, use of compressive steel plate and compressive steel reinforcement are investigated. In addition, a 3D finite element (FE) model for SC composite walls is proposed using the finite element program ABAQUS and load-displacement curves from FE analyses were compared against results obtained from physical testing. In all cases, the proposed FE model is reasonably accurate to predict the behavior of SC composite walls under out-of-plane loads. Results from experimental work and numerical study show that the SC composite wall system has high strength and ductile behavior under flexural loads. Furthermore, the design equations based on ACI code for calculating out-ofplate flexural and shear strength of SC composite walls are presented and compared to experimental database.

Local Sensitivity Analysis using Divergence Measures under Weighted Distribution

  • This paper considers the use of local $\phi$-divergence measures between posterior distributions under classes of perturbations in order to investigate the inherent robustness of certain classes. The smaller value of the limiting local $\phi$-divergence implies more robustness for the prior or the likelihood. We consider the cases when the likelihood comes form the class of weighted distribution. Two kinds of perturbations are considered for the local sensitivity analysis. In addition, some numerical examples are considered which provide measures of robustness.

  • In this paper, we study the properties of the modified winsorized mean to estimate the mean of a two-truncation parameter population. Under some mild conditions, the estimator is found to be strongly consistent and asymptotically unbiased even though the sample is doubly type II censored.

Cell growth and GFP expression in E. coli BL21 and W3110 under coexpression of Vitreoscilla hemogobin

  • Expression of the vhb gene encoding bacterial hemoglobin (VHb) from Vitreoscilla has been used to improve recombinant cell growth and enhance product formation under microaerobic conditions because of its ability to enhance oxygen use. We coexpressed GFP and VHb in Escherichia coli BL21 and W3110, and compared with GFP control which was not expressed VHb. We used nar oxygen-dependent inducible promoter for VHb expression. The GFP amounts in E. coli expressed VHb was about five fold higher than in the control Fluorescence intensity was increased about two fold.
