A new red phosphor $BaZr(BO_{3})_{2}$ doped with $Eu^{3+}$ for PDP applications

  • The photoluminescence (PL) properties are studied for a new phosphor $BaZr(BO_{3})_{2}$ doped with $Eu^{3+}$ activator ion. The excitation spectrum shows strong absorption in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) region with an absorption band edge at 200 nm. The PL spectrum shows the strongest emission at 615 nm corresponding to the electric dipole $^{5}D_{0}\;{\rightarrow}\;^{7}F_{2}$ transition of $Eu^{3+}$, which results in a good color purity.

합성절차에 따른 1차원 ZnO 나노구조의 형태조절과 특성평가 (Shape Control and Characterization of One-dimensional ZnO Nanostructures through the Synthesis Procedure)

  • The one-dimensional ZnO nanostructures prepared through thermal evaporation under various cooling down procedures by changing the flow rates of the carrier gas and the reactive gas were investigated. The nanorod structures were changed into the nanonail types with a broad head through the reduction of the flow rate of the carrier gas. The decrease of the reactive gas reduced the length of the nail heads due to the limited mass transport of reactive gas. The intensity ratio of the ultraviolet emission/green emission of photoluminescence was proportional to the length of the broad head showing a larger surface area. The vertically aligned nanostructures were grown along the [0001] direction of ZnO regardless of the aligned directions. The crystal direction of the nanostructures was determined by that of the initial ZnO crystal.

Novel optical properties of amorphous ferric hydroxide in near infrared region

  • New spectroscopic characteristics of amorphous ferric hydroxide ($Fe(OH)_3$), interestingly in the near infrared (NIR) region, are presented in this study. The absorption spectrum of ferric hydroxide covers wide spectral regions from ultraviolet to NIR (200~900 nm). Unique emission bands were newly observed in the NIR regions (800~1400 nm). Several bands of this NIR emission are quiet well overlapped with the combinational vibrational absorption bands of water. From photothermal conversion study, very interestingly, temperature of aqueous mixture solution including the amorphous ferric hydroxide was significantly increased from ambient temperature to $38^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes under irradiation of a standard helium lamp.

플라즈마 처리한 ZnO 나노막대의 광학적 특성 (The Optical Property of Plasma-treated ZnO Nanorods)

  • Hydrogen and Oxygen plasma treatments have been done on sonochemical grow ZnO nanorods by varying treatment temperature and time, The changes(position and intensity) in ultraviolet(UV) peaks and green peaks of photoluminescence(PL) spectroscopy have been measured, Experimental results showed; i) in the case of hydrogen plasma treatment, the blue shift of UV peak and the increase of PL intensity of the UV peak were observed as the increase of the process time and temperature, ii) in the case of oxygen plasma treatment, the red shift of green peak was observed and the ratio of $I_{Green}/I_{UV}$ was also increased, as the increase of the process time and the temperature.

Graphite상의 ZnO Nanorod성장과 그를 이용한 Schottky Diode 제작

  • We report on the growth of ZnO nanorods (NRs) grown on graphite and silicon substrates via an all-solution process and characteristics of their heterojunctions. Structural investigations indicated that morphological and crystalline properties were not significantly different for the ZnO NRs on both substrates. However, optical properties from photoluminescence spectra showed that the ZnO NRs on graphite substrate contained more point defects than that on Si substrate. The ZnO NRs on both substrates showed typical rectification properties exhibiting successful diode formation. The heterojunction between the ZnO NRs and the graphite substrate showed a Schottky diode characteristic and photoresponse under ultraviolet illumination at a small reverse bias of -0.1 V. The results showed that the graphite substrate could be a good candidate for a Schottky contact electrode as well as a conducting substrate for electronic and optoelectronic applications of ZnO NRs.

Sol-gel 용액의 온도변화에 따른 ZnO 박막의 구조적, 광학적 특성 (Structural and Opical Properties of ZnO Thin Films with Different Temperature of Sol-gel Solution)

  • ZnO 박막을 Sol-gel용액을 이용한 스핀코팅 방법으로 석영기판 위에 성장하였고 Sol-gel 용액의 온도 변화에 따른 구조적, 광학적 특성을 분석하였다. ZnO 박막의 구조적, 광학적 특성을 조사하기 위해 field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL), 그리고 ultraviolet-visible (UV) spectroscopy을 사용하였다. PL 분석에서 ZnO 박막은 orange 계열의 발광을 하였으며, PL spectra는 3.3 eV 부근의 near-band edge emission (NBE) 피크와 2.0 eV 부근의 deep-level emission (DLE) 피크로 이루어져있다. 모든 sol-gel 용액 온도에서, DLE 피크가 NBE 피크보다 더 우세하고 이 DLE 피크는 sol-gel 용액의 온도가 증가함에 따라 점점 증가하다가 감소하는 것을 알 수 있다. 이런 DLE 피크는 산소 공공, 아연 공공, 침입형 산소, 침입형 아연 등과 같은 결함에 의한 것이며, ZnO 박막은 sol-gel 용액의 온도에 따라 결함의 특성이 변화하였다.

  • ZnO-Si-ZnO multi-layer thin films have been deposited by pulsed laser deposition (PLD). And then, the films have been annealed at 300$^{\circ}C$ in oxygen ambient pressure. Peak positions of ultraviolet (UV) and visible region were changed by addition of Si layer. Mobility of the films was improved slightly than ZnO thin film without Si layer. The structural property changed by inserting intermediate Si layer in ZnO thin film. The optical properties and structural properties of ZnO-Si-ZnO multi-layer thin films were characterized by PL(Photoluminescence) and XRB(X-ray diffraction) method, respectively. Electrical properties were measured by van der Pauw Hall measurements

Preparation and Characterization of $Ag/TiO_{2-x}N_x$ Nanoparticles

  • The $Ag/TiO_{2-x}N_x$ nanoparticles were synthesized by photochemical deposition in a $TiO_{2-X}N_X$ suspension system. The prepared products were characterized by means of XRD, Uv-vis and photoluminescence spectra (PL). Its photocatalytic activity was investigated by the decomposition of methylene blue (MB) solution under illumination of visible and ultraviolet light, respectively. Compared to $TiO_{2-x}N_x$, the photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared $Ag/TiO_{2-x}N_x$ is obviously enhanced due to the decreasing recombination of a photoexcitated electron-hole pairs. The Mechanism in which photocatalytic activity is enhanced has been discussed in detail.

Preparation and EPR Characteristics of $ZnGa_2O_4$ : Mn Phosphor

  • ZnGa2O4: Mn phosphors were prepared by a new chemical process, and their photoluminescence and electron paramagnetic resonance characteristics were investigated. The chemical method showed a low temperature formation of phosphors and a rod-type shape of particles. The strong ultraviolet emission was observed in the undoped ZnGa2O4 phosphor, while strong green emission in the Mn2+-activated ZnGa2O4 phosphor. The green emission intensity of the phosphor prepared by the chemical method was much stronger than that prepared by the conventional method. This difference with preparation methods was interpreted as due to the difference in the distribution of Mn2+ in the host lattice. From EPR results, it was explained that the line intensity of the undoped ZnGa2O4 is associated with the electrical conductivity of this material and the concentration quenching of green luminescence of ZnGa2O4: Mn at higher Mn2+ concentration is attributed to the coupling by exchange interaction between Mn2+ ions.

졸-겔법에 의한 c-축 배향성을 가진 고투과율 ZnO 박막의 제조 (Sol-gel Derived-highly Transparent c-axis Oriented ZnO Thin Films)

  • 목적: 저온에서 열처리에 의해 소다-라임-실리카 유리 위에 강한 UV방사 나노결정 ZnO박막을 단순하고 효율적 방법으로 개선하고자 한다. 방법: 소다-라임-실리카 유리 위에 코팅되고 전열처리 및 300$^{\circ}C$의 후열처리를 행하여 제조된 나노 결정질 ZnO 박막의 결정 구조적, 표면 형상적 및 광학적 특성을 X-선 회절 분석, 전계방사 주사형 전자 현미경, 원자간력 현미경, ultra violet - visible - near infrared spectrophotometer 및 photoluminescence를 이용하여 분석하였다. 결과: 가시광 영역에서 높은 투과율과 자외부에서 뚜렷한 흡수밴드를 갖는 c-축으로 고배향된 ZnO 박막을 300$^{\circ}C$의 후열처리를 통하여 얻을 수 있었다. 비교적 뚜렷한 near band edge 발광을 보이는 photoluminescence 스펙트럼이 나타났으며, 결함에 의한 완만한 녹색 발광은 거의 관찰되지 않았다. 결론: 앞으로 본 연구는 300$^{\circ}C$ 이하의 저온에서 저렴하고 쉽게 ZnO을 기초로한 광전기 소자에 적용될 것이다.
