Both ultrasonic velocity at 3 MHz and absorption coefficient in the frequency range of 0.2-2 MHz were measured for poly (sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) aqueous solution over the concentration range of 5 to 25 % by weight. Pulse echo overlap method was employed to measure the ultrasonic velocity over the temperature range of 10-90 ℃ and the high-a ultrasonic resonator method was used for the absorption coefficient measurement at 20 ℃. The velocity exhibited a maximum value at approximately 55. 59, 63. 67, and 71 ℃ in 25, 20. 15, 10. and 5 wt% solutions, respectively. The velocity increased with poly (sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) concentration at a given temperature. The concentrations dependences of the relaxation frequency and amplitude showed that the relaxation around 200 kHz is related to the structural fluctuations of polymer molecules, such as the segmental motions of the polymer chains and that around 1 MHz resulted from the proton transfer reaction of the oxygen sites of SO₃. Both the absorption and the shear viscosity increase with the Polymer concentration. but decrease with temperature.
The three dimensional ultrasonic anemometer was constructed to reduce the disadvantages of the two-dimensional anemometer and to be free from the use environment. Three pairs of transmitting and receiving ultrasonic sensors were designed to face each other at an angle of $45^{\circ}$ to the upper and lower surfaces at intervals of $120^{\circ}$. 200 kHz ultrasonic sensor Oscillation, transmission and reception, level detection, power supply circuit were designed and U, V, W wind speed vector components were obtained by measuring the time of first received ultrasonic pulse by transmitting pulse ultrasound. It is implemented as firmware in ARM Coretex-M3 processor so that horizontal and vertical wind direction and wind speed can be converted into digital signal by vector calculation. In this study, The three-dimensional ultrasonic anemometer can complement the disadvantages of the two-dimensional anemometer (mechanical and ultrasonic), and it is expected to gradually replace the two-dimensional anemometer due to its high utilization rate by collecting additional information such as vertical wind.
This paper presents a numerical simulation of guided ultrasonic waves propagating in aluminum-epoxy-aluminum adhesive plates. In particular, this study investigated the effect of the epoxy thickness on the dispersive patterns, such as the phase velocity and group velocity of guided ultrasonic waves. In addition to investigating the dispersive curves, a numerical simulation using the pulse-echo method was carried out. This simulation showed that the degree of sensitivity of the epoxy thickness is dependent on the curvature of the phase and group dispersion curves, the maximum amplitude of the received time signals, and the peak frequency of the real components of the Fourier transform. Then, the linear relations between the epoxy thickness and the received and transformed signals were constructed to estimate the epoxy thickness.

The purpose of this report is to obtain a practical expression for estimating the compressive strength of concrete using the non-destructive method of testing combining rebound number and ultrasonic pulse velocity at the construction sites for obtaining highest accuracy in predicting the compressive strength.
It is desirable to perform nondestructive evaluation (NDE) to assess material properties and part homogeneity because the manufacturing of carbon/carbon brake disks requires complicated and costly processes. In this work several ultrasonic techniques were applied to carbon/carbon brake disks (322mm ad, 135mm id) for the evaluation of spatial variations in material properties that are attributable to the manufacturing process. In a large carbon/carbon disk manufactured by chemical vapor infiltration (CYI) method, the spatial variation of ultrasonic velocity was measured and found to be consistent with the densification behavior in CYI process. Low frequency (e.g., 1-5MHz) through-transmission scans based on both amplitude and time-of-flight of the ultrasonic pulse were used for mapping out the material property inhomogeneity. Images based on both the amplitude and the time-of-flight of the transmitted ultrasonic pulse showed significant variation in the radial direction. The radial variations in ultrasonic velocity and attenuation were attributed to a density variation caused by the more efficient densification of pitch impregnation near the id and od and by the less efficient densification away from the exposed edged of the disk. Ultrasonic velocities in the edges of the disk. Ultrasonic velocities in the thickness direction were also measured as a function of location using dry-coupling transducers ; the results were consistent with the densification behavior. However, velocities in the in-plane directions (circumferential and radial) seemed to be affected more by the relative contents of fabric and chopped fiber, and less by the void content.

For silent operation, Roll-Screen has been designed by using piezolelectric ultrasonic motor. To drive the ultrasonic motor, a digitally controlled drive system has been designed by using PLD. And to measure the position and velocity of Roll-Screen, encoder with 36 pulse/revolution is used. This paper proposed a new method for a precise velocity control of ultrasonic motor, in spite of using low-level encoder. The proposed method use a non-fixed sampling time and compensate the initial nonlinear characteristics of ultrasonic motors.
In this paper, we have introduced the feature extraction for the ultrasonic signal analysis of the undamaged and damaged concrete specimens. Since the concrete has the heterogeneous nature by itself, it has been difficult to classify the feature with using ultrasonic signal which is acquired from the undamaged and damaged concrete specimens. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed the combinational analysis which is using both the damage coefficient and the number of zerocrossing for the feature extraction. And the pulse velocity method and the damage coefficient, which was proposed by Suaris, were reviewed. In this experiment, two types of concrete specimen have been considered: 180kg/㎠ and 240kg/㎠. The ultrasonic signals were acquired in normal direction. As a result, it has been that combinational analysis method, which is proposed in this paper, shows the better performance than the traditional ultrasonic pulse velocity method and the damage coefficient using maximum amplitude of the ultrasonic signal in the feature extraction.

In this paper, the effect of porosity on the acoustic phase velocity of the 3D printed Kelvin closed-cell structure was investigated using the spectral phase analysis. Since Kelvin cells bring about the large amount of scattering, acoustic pulses in ultrasonic measurements undergoes a distortion of waveforms due to the dispersion effect. In order to take account on the dispersion, mathematical expressions for calculating the phase velocity of longitudinal waves propagating normal to the plane of the Kelvin structure are suggested by introducing a complex wave number based on Fourier transform. 3D Kelvin structure composed of identical unit-cells, a polyhedron of 14 faces with 6 quadrilateral and 8 hexagonal faces, was developed and fabricated by 3D CAD and 3D printer to represent the micro-structure of porous materials such as aluminum foam and cancellous bone. Total nine samples of 3D Kelvin structure with different porosity were made by changing the thickness of polyhedron. Ultrasonic pulse of 1MHz center frequency was applied to the Kelvin structures for the measurement of the phase velocity of ultrasound using the TOF(time-of-flight) and the phase spectral method. From the experimental results, it was found that the acoustic phase velocity decreased linearly with the porosity.
An automated ultrasonic velocity measurement system adopting pulse-echo-overlap (PEO) method has been constructed, which is known to be a precise and versatile method. It has been applied to velocity measurements for 5 kinds of engineering plastic cores and compared to first arrival picking (FAP) method. Because it needs multiple reflected waves and waves travel at least 4 times longer than FAP, PEO has basic restriction on sample length measurable. Velocities measured by PEO showed slightly lower than that by FAP, which comes from damping and diffusive characteristics of the samples as the wave travels longer distance in PEO. PEO, however, can measure velocities automatically by cross-correlating the first echo to the second or third echo, so that it can exclude the operator-oriented errors. Once measurable, PEO shows essentially higher repeatability and reproducibility than FAP. PEO system can diminish random noises by stacking multiple measurements. If it changes the experimental conditions such as temperature, saturation and so forth, the automated PEO system in this study can be applied to monitoring the velocity changes with respect to the parameter changes.

Concrete has been recognized as a material which is resistant to high temperatures, but chemicophysical property of concrete is changed by the high temperature. So, mechanical properties of concrete may be reduced. So, concrete at high temperature is evaluated mechanical properties for safety inspection. However, research of ultrasonic method is not much. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to NDT(non-destructive test) of 30, 70, 110MPa concrete exposed high temperature using ultrasonic pulse velocity and amplitude.
