Intelligent Lighting Control using Wireless Sensor Networks for Media Production

  • We present the design and implementation of a unique sensing and actuation application -- the Illuminator: a sensor network-based intelligent light control system for entertainment and media production. Unlike most sensor network applications, which focus on sensing alone, a distinctive aspect of the Illuminator is that it closes the loop from light sensing to lighting control. We describe the Illuminator's design requirements, system architecture, algorithms, implementation and experimental results. The system uses the Illumimote, a multi-modal and high fidelity light sensor module well-suited for wireless sensor networks, to satisfy the high-performance light sensing requirements of entertainment and media production applications. The Illuminator system is a toolset to characterize the illumination profile of a deployed set of fixed position lights, generate desired lighting effects for moving targets (actors, scenic elements, etc.) based on user constraints expressed in a formal language, and to assist in the set up of lights to achieve the same illumination profile in multiple venues. After characterizing deployed lights, the Illuminator computes optimal light settings at run-time to achieve a user-specified actuation profile, using an optimization framework based on a genetic algorithm. Uniquely, it can use deployed sensors to incorporate changing ambient lighting conditions and moving targets into actuation. Experimental results demonstrate that the Illuminator handles various high-level user requirements and generates an optimal light actuation profile. These results suggest that the Illuminator system supports entertainment and media production applications.

Proactive Mobile Commerce Service using Differentiated Recommendation in Context-Aware Environment (컨텍스트 인식 한경에서 차별화된 권유를 사용한 프호액티브 모바일 커머스 서비스)

  • According to the growth of wireless networks, and the spread of mobile devices, the provision of recommender services to help consumers find items to purchase with the use of the suited contexts is an important issue in mobile commerce. In this paper, we propose a proactive mobile commerce service that enables a consumer to obtain relevant information efficiently by using differentiated recommendation in context-aware environment. This paper describes the recommendation method and presents grocery shopping application prototype that implement the method. Several experiments are performed and the results verify that the proposed method's recommendation performance is better than other existing methods.

  • The rapid development of information & communication technology has changed the paradigm of education. Recently the area of education is introducing u-Learning, in which learning is possible at any time and in any place through personal information devices such as PDA, tablet PC and mobile phone terminals. Taking advantage of the mobility and individuality of personal information devices, u-Learning can provide learning customized to the characteristics of individual learners without the limitations of time and space and can be effective in situational learning and experiential learning. In order to identify the uses of PDA in teaching.learning and to develop a basic teachinglearning model using PDA, the present study applied PDA directly to classes and examined the effects. According to the result, most students were satisfied with classes utilizing PDA but problems were also found in connection, insufficient contents for PDA, the quality of screen, etc.

  • Recently demands in construction of the stand-alone networks and interconnection between convergence devices have led an increase in research on and much attention has been paid to the application of MANET as a Ubiquitous network which is growing fast. With performance both as hosts and routers, easy network configuration, and fast response, mobile nodes participating in MANET are suitable for Embedded computing, but have vulnerable points, such as lack of network scalability and dynamic network topology due to mobility, passive attacks, active attacks, which make continuous security service impossible. In this study, hashed AODV routing is used to protect from counterfeiting messages by malicious nodes in the course of path finding and setting, and disguising misrouted messages as different mobile nodes and inputting them into the network.

  • Mobile RFID is a new application that uses a mobile phone as an RFID reader with wireless technology and provides a new valuable service to users by integrating RFID and ubiquitous sensor network infrastructures with mobile communication and wireless Internet. Whereas the mobile RFID system has many advantages, privacy violation problems on the reader side are very concerning to individuals and researchers. Unlike in regular RFID environments, where the communication channel between the server and reader is assumed to be secure, the communication channel between the backend server and the RFID reader in the mobile RFID system is not assumed to be safe. Therefore it has become necessary to devise a new communication protocol that secures the privacy of mobile RFID-enabled devices. Recently, Lo et al. proposed a mutual key agreement protocol that secures the authenticity and privacy of engaged mobile RFID readers by constructing a secure session key between the reader and server. However, this paper shows that this protocol does not meet all of the necessary security requirements. Therefore we developed an enhanced mutual key agreement protocol for mobile RFID-enabled devices that alleviates these concerns. We further show that our protocol can enhance data security and provide privacy protection for the reader in an unsecured mobile RFID environment, even in the presence of an active adversary.

  • As construction projects become getting bigger and complicated, the importance of resource management in construction sites is to be emphasized all the more than ever, but the reality is now gone far away leaving data filing and management dependent on the hands of in-field managers, which gives rise to a variety of problems such as decreased productivity.   • 근래 주목받는 키워드인 유비쿼터스(Ubiquitous), UCC(User Created Contents) 등은 기술적 발달과 함께한 사람들의 행동 양식 변화를 잘 반영하고 있다. 기술적인 측면에서 모바일 환경으로의 진화는 사람들에게 시공간적 제약을 없애주었으며, '호모 루덴스'로 표현된 유희적 인간의 개념은 현대인의 행동 양식을 잘 표현했다. 이중 지상파 이동 멀티미디어 방송(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting, DMB)은 방송에 있어서 시공간적 제약을 없앤 대표적인 사례이며, 'EDUTAINMENT(에듀테인먼트)'는 교육에 유희를 결합한 실례라고 하겠다. 특히 DMB는 정보와 유희의 욕구를 기본적으로 충족시킬 수 있는 방송이라는 매체를 이용한다는 점에서 에듀테인먼트의 기술적 기반이 될 수 있으며, 이를 통해 저 연령의 학습자에게 유희와 교육을 동시에 제공함으로써, 학습효과를 높일 수 있는 장점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 DMB 시스템을 위한 유아 대상의 에듀테인먼트 어플리케이션을 설계하고, 구현한다. 이 어플리케이션을 위해 스토리텔링, 음악과 악기 선택 시스템, 타임라인 및 자유표면 게임 시스템 등 DMB 시스템에 적절하며, 에듀테인먼트의 조건을 충족하는 몇 가지 방법론을 제안하여 방송을 통해 콘텐츠와 대상자가 서로 상호작용 할 수 있도록 한다. 이를 위해서는 기존 방송의 음성, 영상 서비스를 넘어 상호작용의 필수적인 요소라고 할 수 있는 데이터 서비스를 요구하며, 이는 MPEG-4 Part 11: BIFS(Binary Format for Scenes) 기술을 기반으로 그 구현에는 VRML에 기초한 BT(BIFS Text) 언어를 사용한다.

  • According to development of Internet and computer graphics technology, Digital fashion technology makes virtual fitting service capable by reappearing of clothes in 3D. In this paper, We suggest that combined solution which you could use virtual fitting service with various device. For example, imaginary mirror(such as digital information display), pc, mobile in different situations such as store, internet shopping market, commercial. Users can experience imaginary mirror that is located in store or 3D virtual fitting service for digital fashion in internet shopping market, mobile application. In addition, We proposed the solution that user can send experienced virtual fitting service results to other person by image file form of MMS.

  • In this paper we propose the U-VR Simulator which seamlessly connects entities in real and virtual environments by exploiting context, based on the concept of ubiquitous virtual reality. Using the U-VR Simulator, a smart home environment can be simulated and new virtual entities such as sensors, actuators, and services can be added to existing real entities. The proposed approach is fast and cost-effective because the simulator effectively utilizes both existing and simulated devices. In addition, our approach allows application developers to rapidly develop U-VR applications and extend them to relevant domains. As a future work, we will expand our simulator to intelligently augment virtual entities into real environments.

  • 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 시스템을 설계하고 개발하기 위한 방법들 중 하나로서, 최근 다중 에이전트 모델을 이용하는 방식이 연구되었다. 다중 에이전트 모델을 이용함으로써 얻을 수 있는 장점도 있지만, 다중 에이전트 모델로는 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 시스템이 가지는 고유한 특성을 완벽히 기술하기는 부족한 면이 있다. 예를 들어, 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 시스템에서 어떤 서비스를 제공하기 위하여 여러 컴퓨팅 요소들이 협업을 해야 할 때, 이러한 협업 조직을 효과적으로 표현하기 어렵다. 즉, 다중 에이전트 모델에서는 이러한 협업 조직의 동적인 생성과 소멸, 그리고 동적인 조직의 구성방식과 서비스를 제공하기 위한 조직 내에서의 또한 조직들 간의 협업 방식을 기술하기가 쉽지 않다는 것이다. 게다가 대부분의 다중 에이전트 모델들은 시스템을 설계하는 것만을 고려할 뿐 시스템의 개발은 개발자에게 전가하고 있다. 그러나, 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 시스템처럼 다양한 기종이 복잡하게 분산되어 있는 경우에는 설계만으로 실제 시스템을 개발을 하는 것은 쉬운 일이 아니다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 컴퓨팅 요소들의 협업 조직을 커뮤니티라 하고, 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 시스템을 그러한 커뮤니티에 기반하여 기술하는 고 수준의 추상화 모델을 제시하였다. 또한 이러한 고수준의 추상화 모델로부터 실제 시스템 개발을 이끌어 낼 수 있도록 하기 위하여 Model driven architecture 방식을 적용하여, 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 시스템의 개발 과정을 정의하였다.
