The Hwasan wetland vegetation is observed at mountain basin (644~780 m a.s.l.) where had become a potential land for indigenous people since prehistoric period. We phytosociologically investigated old-growth alder (Alnus japonica) forests using the $Z\ddot{u}rich$-Montpellier School's method and analyzed their spatial distribution pattern by actual vegetation map. Species performance was determined by using coverage and r-NCD. Viburnum opulus var. calvescens-Alnus japonica community syntaxonomically belonging to the Alnetea japonicae was first described and composed of three subunits: Salix koreensis subcommunity, typical subcommunity, and Pyrus ussuriensis subcommunity. Present plant community was compared with vicariant syntaxa such as Molinia japonica-Alnus japonica community, Rhamno nipponicae-Alnetum japonicae, and Aceri-Salicetum koreensis. Hwasan's alder forest, an alluvial terrace vegetation type on valley fan in the montane zone, is evaluated as vegetation class [I], which is a sort of benchmark plant community potentially on mountain wetlands in southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula. Simultaneously we suggested an establishment of the national strategy for habitat conservation free from hydrologically radical transform due to military utilization.
In this paper, we propose a lava flow simulation program to predict the range of lava flows area and thickness of lava flows during volcanic eruptions. The map information is represented as a 'cell' with observed values per fixed area such as DEM and a lava flow prediction algorithm using a cellular automata model is performed to predict the flow of lava flows. To obtain quantitative data of lava flows, fluid properties of lava flows are defined as Bingham plastic fluid and derived equation is applied to the rules of cellular automata. To verify the program, we use a 30m resolution DEM provided by USGS. We compared simulation results with real lava flows for the Pu'u'O'o crater area in Hawaii, which has erupted since May 24, 2016.
Ubiquitous Smart Space(USS) like u-City has been expected to create a high added value. However, developing USS has a high risk because it should use future technologies and development methodologies that have been never tried in the past. Hence, it has to be considered thoroughly in the very first stage of development. Moreover, USS usually uses several ubiquitous computing technologies combinationally because of the nature of USS. Despite of this, existing technology selection methodologies or technology evaluation methodologies only focus on a single technology. This leads us to develop a methodology of optimal technology combination for developing a specific USS. The purpose of this paper is to propose the methodology and to apply it to develop a real USS. We use portfolio theory and constraint satisfaction problem to determine an optimal technology combination. We also apply our methodology to the national ubiquitous computing project which carries out at present to validate it.
Flavonoids are one of the major components found in the peels of citrus fruits. Present evidence has suggested that polymethoxyflavonoids, including nobiletin and tangeretin isolated from Citrus sunki, have many biological properties, such as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-obesity capabilities. Here, we investigated the effect of Citrus sunki peel extract and its possible mechanisms on oxidative stress-induced MMP-1 expression, a major marker of skin photoaging. $H_2O_2$ induced MMP-1 expression in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Extract of Citrus sunki peel (1-25 ${\mu}g/ml$) dose-dependently decreased MMP-1 mRNA levels. When $H_2O_2$ was combined with Citrus sunki peel extract, the phosphorylation of ERK was further decreased compared to a single treatment with $H_2O_2$ alone. Moreover, U0216, an MEK inhibitor, markedly prevented the production of MMP-1. These data suggest that Citrus sunki peel extract has demonstrated protective activity against oxidative damage on MMP-1 expression, and ERK MAP kinase may be involved.
Purpose - The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Korea agricultural productions and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions based on Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis. Design/methodology/approach - This study utilized time series data of economic growth, greenhouse gas, agricultural productions, trade dependency, and energy usages. In order to econometric procedure of EKC hypothesis, this study utilized unit root test and cointegration test to check staionarity of each variable and also adopted Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) and Ordinary Least Square (OLS) to analyze the short and long run relationships. Findings - In the short run, greenhouse gas emissions resulting from economic growth show an inverse U-shape relationship, and an increase in agricultural production and energy consumption led to increase in greenhouse gas emission. In the long run, total GHG emissions and CO2 emissions show an N-shaped relationship with economic growth, and an increase in agricultural production has resulted in a decrease in total GHG and CO2 emissions. However, methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions showed an inverse U-shape relationship with economic growth, which indicated the environment and production process of agricultural production. Research implications or Originality - Korea agricultural production has different effects on the GHG emission sources, and in particular, methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions show to increase as the agricultural production expansions, so policy or technological development in related sector is required. Especially, in the context of the 2030 GHG reduction road-map, if GHG-related reduction technologies or policies are spread, national GHG emission reduction targets can be achieved and this is possible to predict the decline in production in the sector and damage to the related industries.

Recently, as the spatial resolution of satellite and aerial images has improved, various studies using remotely sensed data with high spatial resolution have been conducted. In particular, since the building extraction is essential for creating digital thematic maps, high accuracy of building extraction result is required. In this manuscript, building extraction models were generated using SegNet, U-Net, FC-DenseNet, and HRNetV2, which are representative semantic segmentation models in deep learning techniques, and then the evaluation of building extraction results was performed. Training dataset for building extraction were generated by using aerial orthophotos including various buildings, and evaluation was conducted in three areas. First, the model performance was evaluated through the region adjacent to the training dataset. In addition, the applicability of the model was evaluated through the region different from the training dataset. As a result, the f1-score of HRNetV2 represented the best values in terms of model performance and applicability. Through this study, the possibility of creating and modifying the building layer in the digital map was confirmed.

The Pacific abalone, Haliotis discus hannai, is a highly valued and industrially important aquaculture species with growing demands of the expanding abalone aquaculture industry. To explore the feasibility of using the brown alga, Sargassum horneri, as a potential substitute for abalone feed, it is important to identify the feed preference and attractant effect of S. horneri on Pacific abalone. Our experiments indicated that the feeding-associated movement of abalone could be detected using a video tracking system under indirect illumination with dim red light. To further analyze the attraction potentials of various test materials, preference analysis was performed using Avicel-coated glass plates with ground powders of various seaweeds (e.g., S. horneri, Saccharina japonica, and Undaria pinnatifida) and commercial abalone feed, together with coffee waste. Heat map analysis indicated greater attraction by the kelp S. japonica than by S. horneri and commercial feed, which showed similar preference levels. Feeding preference based on the area of Avicel eaten by abalone showed a significant preference for U. pinnatifida over S. horneri (feeding area: 68.6 ± 20.1% vs. 37.5 ± 22.4%, p < 0.05). Additionally, the feeding area was significantly greater for plates with S. japonica than for plates with S. horneri (44.0 ± 16.6% vs. 22.6 ± 15.4%, p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in feeding area between commercial feed and S. horneri (31.7 ± 11.6% vs. 31.6 ± 20.2%, p > 0.05). The methanol extracts attracted abalone in the following order: U. pinnatifida > S. horneri > S. japonica > commercial feed > coffee waste. To determine the attractive effects of the components of methanol extracts, mixtures of methanol extracts of commercial feed with increasing amounts of S. horneri were examined. The results showed a significant increase in feeding preference upon addition of S. horneri up to 50% and 75%, suggesting its potential for use as an appetite-enhancing feed additive. This study identified conditions that can be successfully used to monitor the movement of Pacific abalone; the results of preference analysis confirmed that abalone exhibited similar attraction and feeding preference for S. horneri, compared with commercial feed.
Since the beginning of human society, there have always been struggles and competitions for survival and prosperity, terrorism is not a recent phenomenon, however in modern times it has progressed to reflect the advances in civilization and power structures. At the time of the 9.11 terrorist attacks in the U.S. A., a new world order was in the process of being established after the breakdown of the Cold War era. The attacks drove both the Western and the Islamic worlds into heightened fear of terrorism and war, which threatened the quality of life of the whole mankind. Through two war campaigns against the Islamic world, it seems the U.S. has been pushing its own militaristic security road map of the Greater Middle East democratic initiative, justifying it as a means to retaliate and eradicate the terrorist threats towards themselves. However, with its five-year lopsided victories that cost the nation almost four thousand military casualties, and the war expenses that could match the Vietnam war, the U.S. does not yet seem to be totally emancipated from the fears of terrorism. Terrorism, in itself, is a means of resisting forced rules a form of alternative competition by the weak against the strong, and a way of expressing a dismissive response against dictatorial ideas or orders which allow for no normal changes. Intrinsically, the nature of terrorism is a reaction opposing power logics. Confronted with the absolute military power of the U.S., the Islamic strategies of terrorism have begun to rapidly evolve into a new stage. The new strategies take advantage of their civilization and circumstances, they train and inspire their front-line fighters on the Internet, and issue their orders through the clandestine network of the Al Qaeda operatives. These spontaneously generated strategies have been gained speed among the second, and third Islamic generations, many of whom are now spread throughout western societies. This represents a failure of the power-driven, one-sided overseas security initiatives by the U.S., and is creating a culture of fear and distrust in western societies. It is feared that the U.S. war campaigns have made the clash of religions far worse than before, and may ever lead to global ethnic separations and large-scale population movements. Eventually, it may result in the terrorist groups, enlarged and secretly supported by the huge sums of oil money, driving all mankind into a series of irreparable catastrophes.

As the mobile devices and the wireless networks have high-performance capabilities, it is possible to synchronize the spatio-temporal data of a server with the spatio-temporal data of a mobile device which are collected at a field. However, since the server process the synchronization which the model device requests the whole synchronizations of mass mobile devices take long time. In this paper, we propose the scheme to Process concurrently the synchronizations of mobile devices which does not conflict with others using the scheme of a multi-queue.

This study is to perform the rainfall-runoff analysis of the basin of Yongdam dam where is loacted in the Geumriver basin. The model used is the SAC-SMA model which was developed by U.S. National Weather Service. The Precipitation data used as the input data of the model are daily ones observed in 2002 and the mean of values recorded in 5 rainfall stations. The evaporation data are used observed in Daejeon meteorological station. The geographical data such as basin slope and stream gradient are elicited from the numerical map analysis. In the verification through the comparison of calculated daily inflow with observed one, parameters used in the model are estimated manually. As the result of verification, total annual calculated inflow is 13,547CMS and agree accurately with the observed one. During the period of one year of 2002, before 100 days and after 250 days, the soil moisture condition in the upper zone was significantly dry and in spite of the rainfall in this period, the runoff was not generated. Through this result, we can observe that the moisture condition in the soil affects strongly the runoff in a basin.
