  • Universities in Korea are already saturated with fashion-related majors, and graduates are having difficulties getting jobs. For this reason, Korean universities should educate students with a competitive curriculum. The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare the curricula of fashion-related majors at universities in Korea and the United States (U.S.) in order to help develop fashion-related curricula at the universities in Korea. The curricula of the 52 majors in 47 Korean universities and the 62 majors in 62 U.S. universities were analyzed. Data was analyzed using MS Excel 2010 and R 3.0.1.; the statistical significance was determined at ${\alpha}$=0.05. There were five main differences between fashion-related majors in Korean universities and those in the U.S. universities: 1) The subjects of the U.S. were more diverse and more business-oriented than those of Korea, but the universities of Korea had more design subjects. 2) The U.S. more often utilized computer technology, than Korea, in the field of fashion design. 3) The U.S. offered more theoretical courses, than Korea, in the field of fashion materials. 4) In the clothing construction field, the U.S. offered more apparel design and technical design than Korea. 5) The U.S. mainly educated on retailing and buying subjects while Korea mainly educated on fashion marketing subjects within the fashion business field.

  • Fashion trend is more than a social phenomenon that multitudes of people accept as popular styles of clothing. The purpose of this study was to understand the influence of fashion trend over time and distance. Geographically thousands of miles apart, the U.S. has strongly influenced fashion in Korea, revealed by references and historic depictions collected from literature and web sites. Results of the study are summarized as five issues: First, emergence of female missionaries from the U.S. American missionaries working in the late Great Korean Empire performed a significant role importing Western culture to Korea. Second, as opportunities of education increased, women studying abroad introduced Western fashion to Koreans when they returned to Korea. They were more open to Western culture than other Koreans and moderately harmonized their Korean sentiment and Western culture, mitigating cultural shock and enabled other Koreans to accept Western culture. Third, the effect of fashionistas on media. Singers working for U.S. armies stationed in Korea and movie stars appearing in Hollywood movies profoundly affected Korean pop culture and fashion trends in Korea. Fourth, following First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy of the U.S. She was an influential figure in those days and a fashion leader as well. Lastly, acceptance of working girl fashion depicted in American television shows. American working girls depicted on American TV shows were highly admired by young Korean women, so the fashion of American working girls became a major fad among young Korean women.

On the contrary, using Human-Reader infrastructure, person's experience and various relevant contents can be easily saved and managed because seamlessness between offline and online and the various devices that person can always carry along in ubiquitous environment. Since person can store and manage information, contents and advertisements through Human-Reader system and u-PEMS, marketing messages and advertisements do not have to be repetitive and stimulating. Instead, marketing messages and advertisements in Human-Reader environment should be granting values that can be saved and managed. We propose various scenarios, processes and its issues.
