  • This study has two objectives. One is developing the runoff model for Hoe-Dong Reservoir basin located at the upstream of Su-Young River in Pusan. To develop the runoff model, basic hydrological parameters - curve number to find effective rainfall, and storage coefficient, etc. - should be estimated. In this study, the effective rainfall was calculated by the SCS method, and the storage coefficient used in the Clark watershed routing was cited from the report of P.E.B. The other is the derivation of transfer function for Hoe-Dong Reservoir basin. The linear, discrete, input-output model which contained six parameters was selected, and the parameters were estimated by the least square method and the correlation function method, respectively. Throughout this study, rainfall and flood discharge data were based on the field observation in 1981.8.22 - 8.23 (typhoon Gladys). It was observed that the Clark watershed routing regenerated the flood hydrograph of typhoon Gladys very well, and this fact showed that the estimated hydrological parameters were relatively correct. Also, the calculated hydrograph by the linear, discrete, input-output model showed good agreement with the regenerated hydrograph at Hoe-Dong Dam site, so this model can be applicable to other small urban areas. Key Words : runoff, effective rainfall, SCS method, clark watershed iou상ng, hydrological parameters, parameter estimation, least square method, correlation function method, input-output model, typhoon gladys.

  • Storm surge height in the coastal area of Jeju Island was examined using the Princeton Ocean Model(POM) with a sigma coordinate system. Amongst the typhoons that had affected to Jeju Island for six years(1987 to 2003), the eight typhoons(Maemi, Rusa, Prapiroon, Olga, Yanni, Janis, Gladys and Thelma) were found to bring relatively huge damage. The storm surge height of these typhoons simulated in Jeju harbour and Seogwipo harbour corresponded relatively well with the observed value. The occurrence time of the storm surge height was different, but mostly, it was a little later than the observed time. Jeju harbour showed a higher storm surge height than Seogwipo harbour, and the storm surge height didn't exceed 1m in both of Jeju harbour and Seogwipo harbour. Maemi out of the eight typhoons showed the maximum storm surge height(77.97 cm) in Jeju harbour, and Janis showed the lowest storm surge height(5.3 cm) in Seogwipo harbour.

  • The meteorological disasters in the southern coast of Korea were analyzed for 20years from 1989 to 2008 using the Korea meteorological administration's data. The results are summarized as follows. Yearly mean number and the total number of meteorological disasters in the southern coast of Korea during 20 years are 7.5 and 149, respectively. The highest number appears in July followed by August and the third is September. The meteorological disasters from July to September occupied about 42%. The seasonal mean number is most in summer(about 39% of all), the next orders are the autumn, winter and spring. The meteorological disasters in summer are mainly caused by typhoon and changma. The meteorological disasters of a great scale occurred by typhoons(for example, 9112 GLADYS, 0215 RUSA and 0314 MAEMI) which strike in the southern coast of Korea.

The main results are summarized as follows. Yearly mean number and the total number of meteorological disasters in the southern coast of Korea during 20 years are 7.5 and 149, respectively. The seasonal mean number is most in summer(about 39% of all), the next orders are the autumn, winter and spring. The meteorological disasters in summer are mainly caused by typhoon and heavy rain. The meteorological disasters of a great scale occurred by typhoons(for example, 9112 GLADYS, 0215 RUSA and 0314 MAEMI) which strike in the southern coast of Korea.
