  • This paper presents a maximum velocity trajectory planning algorithm for differential mobile robots with wheel velocity constraint to cope with physical limits in the joint space for two-wheeled mobile robots (TMR). In previous research, the convolution operator was able to generate a central velocity that deals with the physical constraints of a mobile robot while considering the heading angles along a smooth curve in terms of time-dependent parameter. However, the velocity could not track the predefined path. An algorithm is proposed to compensate an error that occurs between the actual and driven distance by the velocity of the center of a TMR within a sampling time. The velocity commands in Cartesian space are also converted to actuator commands to drive two wheels. In the case that the actuator commands exceed the maximum velocity the trajectory is redeveloped with the compensated center velocity. The new center velocity is obtained according to the curvature of the path to provide a maximum allowable velocity meaning a time-optimal trajectory. The effectiveness of the algorithm is shown through numerical examples.

  • This paper deals with the kinematic and dynamic modeling of a 3 degree-of-freedom redundantly actuated mobile robot for the purpose of analysis and control. Each wheel is driven by two motors for steering and driving. Therefore, the system becomes force-redundant since the number of input variable is greater than the number of output variable. The kinematic and dynamic models in terms of three independent joint variables are derived. Also, a load distribution method to determine the input loads is introduced. Finally we demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed algorithms through simulation.

  • Mobile robots traveling on rough terrain need several algorithms to overcome obstacles. In this paper, we propose the step-type obstacle traversal algorithm to adapt the mobile robot with six arms and wheels to travel on rough terrain. Obstacle traversal is composed of two different stages: planning and control. In planning stage, the required joint torque of each arm as well as the interference between the wheels and the arms are analyzed to guarantee traversing obstacles. Control stage includes such steps as checking distance to obstacle, determining the height and length of obstacle, performing arm motion according to sensed torque data, and evaluating safety at every instance. The proposed algorithm is designed and implemented for CALEB 1 six legged robot developed in the laboratory and verified by simulation and experiment in outdoor environment.

  • In this paper, color coordinate system transformation based visual servo controller has been considered. Mobile robot always has a position error and an orientation error resulted from wheel slipping etc.. Even more, the errors have accumulative properties. So feedback from environments is important. In this paper, by using color model faster land mark extraction can be achieved. And the global position and the orientation of mobile robot can be known by only two land marks positions in image coordinate system. Finally, the adoption of visual information in path tracking problem makes visual servo control.

  • Although the actual visual simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithms provide highly accurate tracking and mapping, most algorithms are too heavy to run live on embedded devices. In addition, the maps they produce are often unsuitable for path planning. To mitigate these issues, we propose a completely closed-loop online dense RGB-D SLAM algorithm targeting autonomous indoor mobile robot navigation tasks. The proposed algorithm runs live on an NVIDIA Jetson board embedded on a two-wheel differential-drive robot. It exhibits lightweight three-dimensional mapping, room-scale consistency, accurate pose tracking, and robustness to moving objects. Further, we introduce a navigation strategy based on the proposed algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate the robustness of the proposed SLAM algorithm, its computational efficiency, and its benefits for on-the-fly navigation while mapping.

  • This study proposed a new approach to intelligent control of a mobile robot system by back properpagation based on multi-layer neural network. A experiment result is given in which some artificial assumptions about the linear and the angluar velocities of mobile robots from recent literature are dropped. In this study, we proposed a new thinique to impliment the real time conrol of he position and velocity of mobile robots. With the proposed control techinique, mobile robots can now globally follow any path such as a straight line, a circle and the path approaching th toe origin using proposed controller. Computer simulations are presented, which confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm. Moreover, practical experimental results concerning the real time control are reported with several real line constraints for mobile robots with two wheel driving.

  • In this paper, an integrated method for the path planning and motion control of wheeled mobile robots using a hybrid system model and control is presented. The hybrid model including the continuous dynamics and discrete dynamics with the continuous and discrete state vector is derived for a two wheel driven mobile robot. The architecture of the hybrid control system for real time path planning and following is designed which has the 3-layered hierarchical structure : the discrete event system using the digital automata as the higher process, the continuous state system for the wheel velocity controls as the lower process, and the interface system as the interaction process between the continuous system as the low level and the discrete event system as the high level. The reference motion commands for autonomous navigation are generated by the abstracted motion in the discrete event system. The motion control tasks including the feasible path planning and autonomous motion control with various initial conditions are investigated as the applications by the simulation studies.

  • In this paper, we propose an improved path planning method and obstacle avoidance algorithm for two-wheel mobile robots, which can be effectively applied in an environment where obstacles can be represented by circles. Firstly, we briefly introduce the rapidly exploring random tree (RRT) and single polar polynomial (SPP) algorithm. Secondly, we present additional two methods for applying our proposed method. Thirdly, we propose a global path planning, smoothing and obstacle avoidance method that combines the RRT and SPP algorithms. Finally, we present a simulation using our proposed method and check the feasibility. This shows that proposed method is better than existing methods in terms of the optimality of the trajectory and the satisfaction of the kinematic constraints.

  • To make the autonomous mobile robot move in the unknown space, we have to know the information of current location of the robot. So far, the location information that was obtained using Encoder always includes Dead Reckoning Error, which is accumulated continuously and gets bigger as the distance of movement increases. In this paper, we analyse the effect of the size of the two wheels of the mobile robot and the wheel track of them among the factors of Dead Reckoning Error. And after this, we compensate this Dead Reckoning Error by Kalman filter using Gyro Sensors. To accomplish this, we develop the controller to analyse the error components of Gyro Sensor and to minimize the error values. We employ the numerical approach to analyse the error components by linearizing them because each error component is nonlinear. And we compare the improved result through simulation.
