The difference between two distribution functions

  • There are many methods for measuring the difference between two location parameters. In this paper, statistics are proposed in order to estimate the difference of two location parameters. The statistics are designed not using the means, variances, signs and ranks, but with the cumulative distribution functions. Hence these are measured as the differences in the area between two univariate cumulative distribution functions. It is found that the difference in the area between two empirical cumulative distribution functions is the difference of two sample means, and its integral is also the difference of two population means.

  • In comparing two population means, the test statistic depends on the sample means and the variances, which are very sensitive to the extremely large or small values. This paper aims at examining the behavior of such observations using proper criterion which can measure the influence of them. We derive a computationally feasible statistic which can detect influential observations on the two-sample t-statistic.

  • In clinical trials of nursing research, the sample size determination is one of the most important factor. Although sample size must be considered at the design stage, it has been disregarded in most clinical trials. The power analysis is usually performed before study begins to compute sample size and the power can also be calculated at the end of study in order to justify study result. The power analysis is essential especially when the clinical trials can not show significant differences. In this paper, we review the statistical methods for power analysis and sample size formulae in nursing research. Sample size formulae and the corresponding examples are discussed according to the six types of studies ; mean for one sample, proportion for one sample, means in two samples, proportions in two samples, correlation coefficient and ANOVA.

촉매적(觸媒的) 제탄(製炭)에 관(關)한 시험(試驗) (Studies on the catalytic charcoaling)

  • 1. Objects The experiments of catalytic aharcoaling were carried out for the fallowing purposes. (1) To determine the economically desirable amount of catalytic materials to be used when a catalytic charcoaling is practiced. (2) To observe the rate of carbonization of non-treated charcoal wood when the catalytic charcoaling is proceeded in the same charcoal pit. 2. Meterials (1) Small sample chips made of oak (Q. accutissima Carr.), measured by 0.5cm in width and thickness, respectively, and 1cm in length, were used as charcoal wood in each experiment. (2) Ammonium chloride was used as a catalytic material and electric kiln as a charcoaling apparatus. 3. Experiment (1) The sample chips were put into a electric oven for three hours at the temperature $60^{\circ}{\sim}70^{\circ}C$ in order to reduce some water contents. (2) Oven dried sample chips were then soaked for an hour in solution of ammonium chloride. Three kinds of solution were prepared, that is, 2.5%, 5%, and 10%, solution in which the amount of ammonium chloride used was weighed at the rate of 0.5%, 1.0%, and 2.0% to the total weight of the sample chips, resppectivelly. (3) Soaked sample chips were put in the air for 12 hours to reduce some water contents, and then were put into electric oven for 2 hours at the temperature $105^{\circ}{\sim}110^{\circ}C$. (4) Dried sample chips were kept in a desiccator with control sample chips which were treated excarly the same process as the treated sample chips except only not using the ammonium chloride in the process of soking. (5) Sample chips kept in the desiccator were used at random in each charcoaling experiment. (6) Charcoaling in the electric kiln were carried out by using small crucibles with complete cover to reduce the amount of ash. At each charcoaling experiment four crucibles filled with sample ships, weighed about 20gr, were put into electric kiln. The charcoaling was continued for an hour at the temperature $400^{\circ}{\sim}450^{\circ}C$. (7) In order to investigate the influence given by the gases produced during the catalytic charcoaling to the rate of carbonization of non-treated sample chips, the following experiment was done. (a) A crueible was divided into two parts by inserting a fine iron net at the middle of the crucible, and then non-treated sample chips, weighed about 10gr, were put in the upper part of the crucible and treated sample chips, weighed also about 10gr, were put in the under part. (b) The crucibles filled with two kinds of sample chips were put into a electric kiln for an hour at the temperature $400^{\circ}{\sim}450^{\circ}C$. 4. Results. Results for two replications (with four crucibles in one replication) for each experiment designed are as follows : (1) The rats of carbonization of the non treated sample chips, and that of the treated sample chips with ammonium chloride at the rate of 1.5%, 1.0%, and 2.0% to the total weight of the sample chips used were averaged at 19.85%, 22.63%, 24.14%, and 26.60%, respectively. (2) The rats of carbonization of the non-treated sample chips were averaged at (a) 20.04% (0.5% treatment), (b) 20.28% (1.0% treatment), and (c) 20.61% (2.0% treatment) when the treated sample chips were carbonized in the same crucible.

이중추출에서 모평균 추정 (Mean Estimation in Two-phase Sampling)

  • 이중추출에서 모평균 추정방법을 고찰하였다. 전통적으로 널리 쓰이는 비추정량과 회귀추정량 그리고 비례배분 및 Rao 배분을 한 후의 층화평균에 대하여 주어진 기대 비용에서 최적의 표본수, 최소분산 및 분산추정량을 살펴보았다. 또한 비추정 및 층화의 효과를 모두 내포하는 결합비 추정량을 제안하고 주어진 기대 비용에서 최적의 표본수 및 최소분산을 유도하였고 분산추정량을 구하였다. 그리고 제한된 모의실험을 통하여 비추정량, 층화평균 및 결합비 추정량의 효율을 비교하였다. 모의실험 결과 비추정량과 층화평균은 경우에 따라 효율이 다르게 나타난 반면, 결합비 추정량은 대체로 두 방법보다 효율이 우수하게 나타나 결합비 추정량이 이중추출에 유용하게 쓰일 수 있음을 보였다.

  • 이 논문에서는 신호의존성 잡음과 가산성 잡음이 함께 있을 때 확률 신호를 찾아내는 두 표본을 쓰는 국소 최적 순위 검파기의 점근 성능을 다룬다. 비모수 검파기인 국소 최적 순위 검파기는 국소 최적 검파기와 비교하여 볼 때, 시간상으로 상관이 있는 확률 신호에 대해서 거의 같은 점근 성능을 가진다. 두 표본을 쓰는 국소 최적 순위 검파기는 한 표본을 쓰는 국소 최적 순위 검파기와 같게 수행한다는 점은 주목할 만하다.

  • 조사비용과 시간과 같은 현실적인 제약하에서 관측단위 (observation unit)의 집합인 집락(cluster)율 추출하는 집락추출법은 대부분의 대형조사(large scale survey) 에서 흔히 사용된다. 특별히 집락내의 관측단위가 매우 유사한 경우, 집락 내의 모든 관측치를 조사하는 대신 일부를 추출하여 조사하는 이단계 집락 추출법이 선호된다. 이단계 집락추출법의 적용시 집락인 1차추출단위 (Primary Sampling Unit; PSU)와 관측단위인 2차추출단위(Secondary Sampling Unit; SSU)의 표본수 결정은 주어진 비용과 표본으로부터 계산되어지는 통계량의 정도에 의존한다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 1차추출단위의 크기가 동일하다는 가정하에서 유도된 최적 PSU와 SSU 표본크기 산출과정을 일반화하여 1차추출단위의 크기가 같지 않을 경우의 최적 표본크기를 유도하고 그 결과를 제 4차 퇴원환자조사를 위한 표본추출 방안에 적용하여 기존방법과 비교하였으며 이를 바탕으로 제 7차 퇴원환자조사를 위한 표본크기를 제안하였다.

잡음영상에서 효과적인 에지검출을 위한 이표본 선형 순위 검정법 (Two-sample Linear Rank Tests for Efficient Edge Detection in Noisy Images)

  • 본 논문에서는 잡음영상에서 효과적인 에지검출을 위해 이표본 위치문제(two-sample location Problem)에서 잘 알려진 선형 순위 검정법(linear raft test)인 Wilcoxon 검정법, Median 검정법 그리고 Van der Waerden 검정법을 적용하고자 한다. 에지 존재 유무는 에지-높이 모수(edge-height parameter)를 사용한 모형 하에서 인접한 두 개의 근방영역간의 평균 차이를 검정함으로서 통계적으로 결정한다. 여기서 근방영역의 크기와 형태는 에지검출을 위한 계산 속도와 에지방향을 고려하여 적응성 있게(adaptively) 결정하였다. 통계적 방법들의 에지검출 성능을 평가하기 위해 자연영상(natural images)과 인조영상(synthetic images) 그리고 잡음이 추가된 영상에 대해 실험을 실시하고 비교 분석하였다.

음성 Sample의 길이 변화에 따른 MDVP 측정치와 GRBAS 척도간의 상관관계 변화 비교 (The Change of the Correlation between GRBAS Scales and MDVP Parameters according to the Different Length of Voice Samples for MDVP Analysis)

  • The present study was performed to find efficient and useful length of voice sample for MDVP analysis, by investigating the correlation between perceptual GRBAS scales and objective MDVP measurements, with the five different lengths of voices of 20 patients with vocal polyp: 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 seconds. The results are following: (1) 1.5-second sample of MDVP showed the highest correlation between the perceptual judgement and objective measurement, and 1.0-second sample showed the lowest. The difference between the two samples was found in the number of the statistically significant correlated pairs of MDVP parameter-GRBAS scale. (2) The two extreme edges of the lengths, 0.5-second and 2.5 second showed no statistically significant difference.
