  • An investigation on thermohydraulic stability of flow oscillations in the CANada Deuterium Uranium-600(CANDU-6) heat transport system has been conducted. Flow oscillations in reactor coolant loops, comprising two heat sources and two heat sinks in series, are possibly caused by the response of the pressure to extraction of fluid in two-phase region. This response consists of two contributions, one arising from mass and another from enthalpy change in the two-phase region. The system computer code used in the investigation os SOPHT, which is capable of simulating steady states as well as transients with varying boundary conditions. The model was derived by linearizing and solving one-dimensional, homogeneous single- and two-phase flow conservation equations. The mass, energy and momentum equations with boundary conditions are set up throughout the system in matrix form based on a node-link structure. Loop stability was studied under full power conditions with interconnecting the two compressible two phase regions in the figure-of-eight circuit. The dominant function of the interconnecting pipe is the transfer of mass between the two-phase regions. Parametric survey of loop stability characteristics, i. e., damping ratio and period, has been made as a function of geometrical parameters of the interconnection line such as diameter, length, height and orifice flow coefficient. The stability characteristics with interconnection line has been clarified to provide a simple criterion to be used as a guide in scaling of the pipe.

  • An experimental study on the pressure drop during flow boiling for pure refrigerants Rl34a and R123, and their mixture was carried out in a uniformly heated horizontal tube. Tests were run at a pressure of 0.6㎫ and in the ranges of heat flux 5-50㎾/$m^2$, vapor quality 0-100 percent and mass velocity of 150-600 kg/$m^2$s. Generally, the two-phase frictional multiplier is used to predict the frictional pressure drop during the two-phase flow boiling. The obtained results have been compared to the existing various correlations for the two-phase multiplier. Also, the frictional pressure drop was compared to a few available correlations; The Lockhart-Martinelli correlation considerally overpredicted the frictional pressure drop data for mixture as well as pure components in the entire mass velocity ranges employed in the present study, while the Chisholm correlation underpredicted the present data. The Friedel correlation was found to satisfactorily correlate the frictional pressure drop data except for a low quality region.

  • In this method the condenser excite winding has the phase angle of 90 electrical degree, with the load winding in stator. The condenser excite wing is connected with the condenser while the load winding is with the full rectifer. Direct and quardrature axis components of rotating field winding are composed, of balanced two phase winding, and each one of them is connected with half wave rectifiers. Initically, small amount of lead current can be induced at the condenser excite winding by residual magnetism of rotor. The induced lead current forces the rotating field winding to be excited by synchronous alternating magnetic field. The speed electromotive force, there for, induced in rotating field winding shall electro magnetize the rotating field pole by rotating half wave rectifiers. In the case of the charging generator directly coupled with engines at the operation of wide range speed, the generated region, such as vehicles, aircraft, ships etc, is occured. In conclusion, we can take the advantage of, omitting of voltage regurator and current limiter for charging load and reducing the consumption of fuel using the generated region which can be devided in to Impossible generated region, Generated region, and suspension generated region.

  • This work presents a two-dimensional quasi-steady state model to study the fluid flow and heat transfer in high-power density welding process of thin AISI-304 stainless steel plates. The enthalpy method and the finite volume method were used for a numerical analysis of the mushy region phase change as well as the heat flow at the weld pool and the heat-affected zone. The results show that the mushy region distributed around the weld pool becomes wider downstream and the surface heat losses by convection and radiation can be significant factors in welding process especially when a welding speed is relatively low.

  • This paper investigates a PI control problem for the evaporator superheat, i.e., temperature difference between the two-phase region and the exit region of an evaporator, for multi-type air-conditioning/refrigeration system. Mathematical model describing the characteristics of compressor, condenser, evaporator, and electronic expansion valve are first derived. Then, two transfer function from the current input applied to an electronic expansion valve to the wall-temperatures of an evaporator tube at two-phase region and superheated region, respectively, are derived. The stability of the closed loop system with the PI controller designed it analyzed by using Nyquist stability criterion. Simulation results are provided.

  • Submerged gas-injected system can be applied to various industrial field such as metallurgical and chemical processes, So this study aims at presenting the relevant relationship between gas phase and liquid phase in a gas-injected bath. In a cylinderical bath, local gas volume fraction and bubble frequency were measured by electroconductivity probe and oscilloscope. The temperature of each phase was measured using thermocouple and data acquisition system. In vertical gas injection system, gas-liquid two phase plume was formed, being symmetry to the axial direction of injection nozzle and in a shape of con. Lacal gas-liquid flow becomes irregular around the injection nozzle due to kinetic energy of gas and the flow variables show radical change at the vicinity of gas(air) injection nozzle As most of the kinetic energy of gas was transferred to liquid in this region, liquid started to circulate. In this reason, this region was defined as 'developing flow region' The Bubble was taking a form of churn flow at the vicinity of nozzle. Sometimes smaller bubbles formed by the collapse of bubbles were observed. The gas injected into liquid bath lost its kinetic energy and then was governed by the effect of buoyancy. In this region the bubbles which lost their kinetic energy move upward with relatively uniform velocity and separate. Near the gas nozzle, gas concentration was the highest. But it started to decrease as the axial distance increased, showing a Gaussian distribution.

  • It had been disputed how to apply wall drag to the dispersed phase in the framework of the conventional two-fluid model for two-phase flows. Recently, Kim et al. [1] introduced the volume-averaged momentum equation based on the equation of a solid/fluid particle motion. They showed theoretically that for dispersed two-phase flows, the overall two-phase pressure drop by wall friction must be apportioned to each phase, in proportion to each phase fraction. In this study, the validity of the proposed wall drag model is demonstrated though one-dimensional (1D) simulations. In addition, it is shown that the existing form loss model incorrectly predicts the motion of the dispersed phase. A new form loss model is proposed to overcome that problem. The newly proposed form loss model is tested in the region covering the lower plenum and the core in a nuclear power plant. As a result, it is shown that the new models can correctly predict the relative velocity of the dispersed phase to the surrounding fluid velocity in the core with spacer grids.

  • Reactant mixing has a critical role in ensuring reformate quality and an important design objective is to achieve sufficiently complete mixture of reactants. For that purpose it is required to understand the coupled transport-kinetics phenomena in the mixing region. Three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics model was developed and validated in previous works. The mixing characteristics in various alternatives of a prototype mixing chamber were compared, and then a reduced reaction kinetics was applied to two extreme designs for investigating the impact of gas-phase reactions. Both designs did not reach threshold ethylene mole fraction of 0.001, but surprisingly more ethylene was generated in the design having better mixing characteristics. The presentation will deliver the development process of coupled transport and kinetics model briefly and the detailed information about the mixing characteristics and gas-phase reactions in two mixer designs.

  • In this paper we composed the dual fuzzy rules using each region of specific points and $e-{\Delta}e$ phase plane In order to make dual fuzzy rule base. We composed the fuzzy control rules which can decrease rise time, delay time, maximum overshoot than basic fuzzy control rules. proposed method is alternately use at specific points of $e-{\Delta}e$ phase plane with two fuzzy control rules that is one control rule occruing the steady state error in transient region and another fuzzy control rule use to decrease the steady state error and rapidly converge at the convergence region. Also, two fuzzy control rules in the $e-{\Delta}e$ phase plane decide the change time according to response characteristics of plants. In order to confirm thef proposed algorithm. As the results of experiments through the hydraulic servo motor control system with a DSP processor, We verified that proposed dual fuzzy control rules get the good response compare with the basic fuzzy control rule.

  • A novel non-linear logical torque sharing function (TSF) is presented. To improve efficiency and to reduce torque ripple in commutation region, only a phase torque under commutation is regulated to produce a uniform torque. And the torque developed by the other phase remains with the previous state under a current limit of the motor and drive. If the minimum change of a phase torque reference can not satisfy the total reference torque, two-phase changing mode is used. Since a phase torque is constant and the other phase torque is changed at each rotor position, total torque error can be reduced within a phase torque error limit. And the total torque error is dependent on the change of phase torque. To consider non-linear torque characteristics and to suppress a tail current at the end of commutation region, the incoming phase current is changed to torque increasing direction, but the outgoing phase current is changed to torque decreasing direction. So, the torque sharing of the outgoing phase and incoming phase can be smoothly changed with a minimum current cross over. The proposed control scheme is verified by some computer simulations and experimental results.
