  • In this paper, we present an analytical model for the first eigen energy level ($E_0$) of the carriers in the inversion layer in present generation MOSFETs, having ultrathin gate oxides and high substrate doping concentrations. Commonly used approaches to evaluate $E_0$ make either or both of the following two assumptions: one is that the barrier height at the oxide-semiconductor interface is infinite (with the consequence that the wave function at this interface is forced to zero), while the other is the triangular potential well approximation within the semiconductor (resulting in a constant electric field throughout the semiconductor, equal to the surface electric field). Obviously, both these assumptions are wrong, however, in order to correctly account for these two effects, one needs to solve Schrodinger and Poisson equations simultaneously, with the approach turning numerical and computationally intensive. In this work, we have derived a closed-form analytical expression for $E_0$, with due considerations for both the assumptions mentioned above. In order to account for the finite barrier height at the oxide-semiconductor interface, we have used the asymptotic approximations of the Airy function integrals to find the wave functions at the oxide and the semiconductor. Then, by applying the boundary condition at the oxide-semiconductor interface, we developed the model for $E_0$. With regard to the second assumption, we proposed the inclusion of a fitting parameter in the wellknown effective electric field model. The results matched very well with those obtained from Li's model. Another unique contribution of this work is to explicitly account for the finite oxide-semiconductor barrier height, which none of the reported works considered.

  • The foundation fieldbus(FF) is one of the fieldbuses most widely used for process control and automation, In order for system designer to optimize medium management, it is imperative to predict transmission delay time of data. In a former research, mathematical modeling to analyze transmission delay of FF token-passing system has been developed based on the assumption that a device node has only one priority data(1Q model), From 1Q model, all of the device nodes, which are connected on the FF system, are defined priority level in advance, and as system operates, data are generated based on given priority level. However, in practice, some non-periodic data can have different priority levels from one device. Therefore, new mathematical model is necessary for the case where different priority levels of data are created under one device node(2Q model). In this research, the mathematical model for 2Q model is developed using the equivalent queue model. Furthermore, the characteristics of transmission delay of 2Q model which is presented in this paper were compared with 1Q model. The validity of the analytical model was verified by using a simulation experiment.

  • The sedimentation patterns at a reservoir, important to the reservoir capacity curve were simulated using a depth averaged, two-dimensional sediment transport model, that is capable of depicting velocity distributions and sediment transportation. The Banweol reservoir, whose stage capacity relationships have been surveyed before and after the construction, was selected and the daily inflow rates and stages were simulated using a reservoir operation model(DI-ROM). The applicability of the transport model was tested from the comparisons of simulated sedimentation patterns to the surveyed results. The simulated inflow rates and water level fluctuations at the reservoir during twenty-one years from 1966 to 1986, showed that water levels exceeding 80 percent of the total capacity occurred for 70 percent of the periods and inflow rates less than 5000rn$^3$/day sustained for 54 percent of the spans. Dorminant flow directions were simulated from two streamflow inlets to the dam site. And simulated sediment concentrations were higher near the inlets and lower at the inside of the reservoir. Sediment was deposited heavily near the inlets, and portions of sediments were distributed along the flow paths within the reservoir. The comparisons between the simulation results and the surveyed depositions were partially matched. However, it was not possible to compare two results at the upper parts of the reservoir where dredging was carried out few times for the purpose of reservoir maintenance. This study demonstrates that sedimentation patterns within the reservoir are closely related to incoming sediment and flow rates, water level fluctuations, and flow circulation within the reservoir.

  • Purpose - Intra-industry trade of agricultural products can eliminate the disadvantage of Korea's traditional agriculture and improve its lack of comparative advantage. The main purpose of this paper is to measure the level and index of intra-industry trade of Korean agricultural products and to explore the spatial dependence and spillover effect associated with this type of trade. The main factors influencing intra-agricultural trade are analyzed from two perspectives: the population and the classification of agricultural products. Design/methodology - First, the level of intra-industry trade of Korean agricultural products is measured. Second, to obtain a more accurate estimate of the influence of various factors, and based on two types of weight matrices, a spatial econometric model is constructed from two aspects: population and classification of agricultural products. The status and the factors influencing intra-industry trade are also studied. Findings - It is concluded that there is a positive spatial correlation between Korea's intra-industry trade in agricultural products and that of its trading partners. The spatial spillover effect of this type of trade is verified by using the spatial autoregressive model (SAR). Labor-intensive agricultural products are found to have a positive spillover effect on intra-industry trade, while land-intensive products do not have a significant effect. Originality/value - In this paper, the two types of agricultural products are meticulously distinguished, and the spatial effect of the intra-industry trade of agricultural products as well as the influence of various factors are analyzed. In addition, the accuracy of the estimation of the coefficients of the factors by using the spatial econometric model is higher than that of the ordinary panel data model.

  • This paper proposes fuzzy regression analysis with non-symmetric fuzzy coefficients. By assuming non-symmetric triangular fuzzy coefficients and applying the quadratic programming fomulation, the center of the obtained fuzzy regression model attains more central tendency compared to the one with symmetric triangular fuzzy coefficients. For a data set composed of crisp inputs-fuzzy outputs, two approximation models called an upper approximation model and a lower approximation model are considered as the regression models. Thus, we also propose an integrated quadratic programming problem by which the upper approximation model always includes the lower approximation model at any threshold level under the assumption of the same centers in the two approximation models. Sensitivities of Weight coefficients in the proposed quadratic programming approaches are investigated through real data.

  • For the unconfined vapor cloud explosion(UVCE) accident by the continuous release of gas-liquid flow of various saturated liquids in a vessel at ground level, overpressures were estimated by TNT equivalency model with two estimation methods, such as UVCE I model based on a constant release time and UVCEII model based on a real travel time of vapor by dispersion and analyzed with various release conditions. As a simulation result the simple, easy, and correct method of evaluation of consequences of the UVCE accident was proposed by using consequences of UVCE I model and correlation equations for differences of overpressures between UVCE models, so that this evaluation method could be used easily in the small and medium size enterprises without using the dispersion model.

  • This study aims to present nonlinear time history analysis results of double leaf cavity wall (DLCW) reinforced concrete structure exposed to shake table tests. Simulation of the model was done by a Finite Element (FE) program. Shake table experiment was performed at the National Civil Engineering Laboratory in Lisbon, Portugal. The results of the experiment were compared with numeric DLCW model and numeric model of reinforced concrete structure with unreinforced masonry wall (URM). Both DLCW and URM models have two bays and two stories. Dimensions of the tested structure and finite element models are 1:1.5 scaled according to Cauchy Froude similitude law. The URM model has no experimental results but the purpose is to compare their performance level with the DLCW model. Results of the analysis were compared with experimental response and were evaluated according to ASCE/SEI 41-06 code.

  • In this paper, we describe a novel method for recognizing human actions from different views via view knowledge transfer. Our approach is characterized by two aspects: 1) We propose a unsupervised topic transfer model (TTM) to model two view-dependent vocabularies, where the original bag of visual words (BoVW) representation can be transferred into a bag of topics (BoT) representation. The higher-level BoT features, which can be shared across views, can connect action models for different views. 2) Our features make it possible to obtain a discriminative model of action under one view and categorize actions in another view. We tested our approach on the IXMAS data set, and the results are promising, given such a simple approach. In addition, we also demonstrate a supervised topic transfer model (STTM), which can combine transfer feature learning and discriminative classifier learning into one framework.

  • This paper addresses a damping control strategy of Static Synchronous Series Compensator(SSSC) and analysis model for stability study. The effect of injected voltage source generated by SSSC is modelled as equivalent load. This model is thought to be reasonable for the stability study because the dynamics of SSSC is very fast compared with that of power system. Damping controller of SSSC is based on Transient Energy Function method. The proposed control strategy is insensitive to the operating conditions like power flow level because control law depends on the phase angles. The proposed analysis model and control strategy was confirmed by WSCC 9 bus system and two area system. Especially, the robustness of proposed control strategy is demonstrated with respect to multiple operating conditions in two area system.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate effects of computer animations using particulate model in elementary science classes related to air pressure. To do those, four classes of 5th grade in an elementary school located in a city were selected. As an experiment group, two classes were applied the teaching materials of computer animations developed for this study based on particulate model. The other classes as a control group were not applied these materials in science classes. The total scores of experiment group in which computer animation using particulate model was applied in science classes are higher than those of the control group in the conception test. Only in one conception related to high and low atmospheric air pressure, the scores of the two groups are not significantly different at 0.05 significance level.
