A numerical study based on the three-dimensional thin-layer Navier-Stokes solver is carried out to analyze the flowfield through a single stage transonic compressor. Explicit four-step Runge-Kutta scheme with spatially variable time step and implicit residual smoothing is used. The governing equations are discretized with exploit finite difference method. Mixed-out average method is used at the interface between rotor and stator. And, an artificial dissipation model is used to assure the stability of solution. The results with k-$\omega$ turbulence model were compared to the results with Baldwin-Lomax model, and physical phenomena of transonic compressor are presented. The two turbulence models give the results that show reasonably good agreements with experimental data.

A numerical study on the hydrodynamic properties of a floating flexible breakwater consisting of triple vertical porous membrane structures attached to a floating rigid pontoon restrained by moorings is carried out in the context of two-dimensional linear wave-flexible body interaction theory. The tensions in the triple membranes are achieved by hanging a clump weight from its lower ends. The clump weight is also restrained properly by moorings. The dynamic behavior of the breakwater was described through an appropriate Green function, and the fluid multi-domains are incorporated into the boundary integral equation. Numerical results are presented which illustrate the effects of the various wave and structural parameters on the efficiency of the breakwater as a barrier to wave action. It is found that the wave reflection and transmission properties of the structures depends strongly on the membrane length taking major fraction of water column, the magnitude of tensions on membrane achieving by the clump weight, proper mooring types and stiffness, the permeability on the membrane dissipating wave energy.
Thermal analysis of a cooling module using Peltier elements are performed using a commercial software, CFD-ACE+. A standard k-e two-equation turbulent model is applied in order to represent the turbulent shear stress. Computed values are compared with the theoretical values for the validation. The effect of mass flow rates and transferred heat amounts on the temperature distributions inside the cooling system is analyzed. It was found that the increase in the mass flow rates causes the exit temperature rise. The increase in the absorbed heat amount diminished the overall temperature on the fin surfaces. In the present analysis, the material characteristics of the Peltier element itself are not considered. In the future, the effect of the turbulence models and material characteristics will be studied in detail.

Transition to chaotic convection is investigated for natural convection of a fluid with Pr=0.1 in a wide-gap horizontal annuls. The unsteady two-dimensional stream-function-vorticity equation is solved with finite difference method. As the Rayleigh number is increased, the steady 'downward flow' bifurcates to a time-periodic flow with a fundamental frequency, and afterwards a period-doubling bifurcation occurs. As the Rayleigh number is increased further, the chaotic flow regime is reached after a sequence of successive Hopf bifurcation to quasi-periodic and chaotic flow regimes. The route to chaos shows the Ruelle-Takens-Newhouse scenario. The flow of chaotic regime displays complex coalescence and separation of eddies in the side and lower region of the annulus.

Isothermal (vapor + liquid) equilibrium data measurements were undertaken for the binary mixtures of (propylene oxide + 1-pentanol) system at three different temperatures (303.15, 318.15, and 333.15) K. The Peng-Robinson-Stryjek-Vera equation of state (PRSV EOS) was used to correlate the experimental data. The van der Waals one-fluid mixing rule was used for the vapor phase and the Wong-Sandler mixing rule, which incorporates the non-random two liquid (NRTL) model, the universal quasi-chemical (UNIQUAC) model and the Wilson model, was used for the liquid phase. The experimental data were in good agreement with the correlation results.
In order to verify the numerical model, which was developed to simulate the behavior of the two-phase fluid flow in a single fracture, the characteristic equation of relative permeability was incorporated into the developed numerical model, and the computed results were compared with the experimental results of the model test. As results of the sensitivity analysis on the roughness and the aperture size of fracture, the gas velocity was inversely proportional to the fracture roughness, and not proportional to the square of aperture size which is usually observed in single phase flow in a single fracture. The numerical model was applied to the underground LPG storage terminal in order to check the field applicability. The simultaneous flow of water and gas in accordance with the operation pressures in a single fracture near cavern was simulated by the model. It was shown that the leaked gas was able to be controlled in a single fracture neither by the pressure of operation nor by that of groundwater in case the fracture became smoother in roughness and smaller in aperture size.

Numerical simulations of 3D aircraft configurations are performed in order to understand the effects of turbulence models on the prediction of aircraft's aerodynamic characteristics. An in-house CFD code that solves 3D RANS equations and two-equation turbulence model equations are used. The code applies Roe's approximated Riemann solver and an AF-ADI scheme. Van Leer's MUSCL extrapolation with van Albada's limiter is also adopted. Various versions of Menter's $k-{\omega}$ SST turbulence models as well as Coakley's $q-{\omega}$ model are incorporated into the CFD code. Menter's $k-{\omega}$ SST models include the standard model, the 2003 model, the model incorporating the vorticity source term, and the model containing controlled decay. Turbulent flows over a wing are simulated in order to validate the turbulence models contained in the CFD code. The results from these simulations are then compared with computational results from the $3^{rd}$ AIAA CFD Drag Prediction Workshop. Numerical simulations of the DLR-F6 wing-body and wing-body-nacelle-pylon configurations are conducted and compared with computational results of the $2^{nd}$ AIAA CFD Drag Prediction Workshop. Aerodynamic characteristics as well as flow features are scrutinized with respect to the turbulence models. The results obtained from each simulation incorporating Menter's $k-{\omega}$ SST turbulence model variations are compared with one another.

In this study, a computer simulation has been performed for the refrigeration cycle using mixed refrigerants in order to decrease the process stream temperature to $-20^{\circ}C$. Refrigerant supply temperature was assumed to be $-30^{\circ}C$ considering the temperature difference as $10^{\circ}C$ with process stream. Peng-Robinson equation of state model was selected for the computer simulation. A new alpha function proposed by Twu et al was used for an accurate prediction of pure component vapor pressure experimental data. One fluid mixing rules were used for the estimation of mixture vapor-liquid equilibria calculations. A commercial process simulator, PRO/II with PROVISION was utilized for the simulation of the overall refrigeration process. In order to minimize the compressor power consumption, we have optimized the two-stage compression system by varying the first stage compressor outlet pressure. Finally, we could obtain the minimum total power 755.7kW at the first stage compressor outlet pressure, 6 bar.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze two-phase flows of the hydrogen recirculation system. Two-phase flow modeling is one of the great challenges in the classical sciences. As with most problems in engineering, the interest in two-phase flow is due to its extreme importance in various industrial applications. In hydrogen recirculation systems of fuel cell, the changes in pressure and temperature affect the phase change of mixture. Therefore, two-phase flow analysis of the hydrogen recirculation system is very important. Two-phase computation fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations, using a commercial CFD package FLUENT 6.2, were employed to calculate the gas-liquid flow. A two-phase flow calculation was conducted to solve continuity, momentum, energy equation for each phase. Then, the mass transfer between water vapor and liquid water was calculated. Through an experiment to measure production of liquid water with change of pressure, the analysis model was verified. The predictions of rate of condensed liquid water with change of pressure were within an average error of about 5%. A comparison of experimental and computed data was found to be in good agreement. The variations of performance, properties, mass fraction and two-phase flow characteristic of mixture with resepct to the fuel cell power were investigated.
Recently, stream flow analysis has been accomplished by one or two dimensional equations and was applied by simple momentum equations and fixed energy conservations which contain many condition limits. In this study, FLOW-3D using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) was applied to stream flow analysis which can solve three dimensional RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes Equation) control equation to find out physical behaviors and the effect of hydraulic structures. Numerical simulation accomplished those results was compared by using turbulence models such as ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$, RNG (Renormalized Group) ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ and LES (Large Eddy Simulation). Numerical analysis results have been illustrated by the turbulence energy effects, velocity of flow, water level pressure and eddy flows around the piers and transverse overflow type structures. These results will be able to used by basis data that catch hold of effects on long-term bed elevation changes, sediment accumulations, scours and water aggravations by removal of obsolete transverse over flow type structures in urban stream.
