Purpose : This study was designed to demonstrate the potential therapeutic advantage of 3-dimensional (3-D) treatment planning over the conventional 2-dimensional (2-D) approach in patients with carcinoma of the nasopharynx. Materials and Methods : The two techniques were compared both qualitatively and quantitatively for the boost portion of the treatment (19.8 Gy of a total 70.2 Gy treatment schedule) in patient with T4. The comparisons between 2-D and 3-D plans were made using dose statistics, dose-volume histogram, tumor control probabilities, and normal tissue complication probabilities. Results : The 3-D treatment planning improved the dose homogeneity in the planning target volume. In addition, it caused the mean dose of the planning target volume to increase by 15.2$\%$ over 2-D planning. The mean dose to normal structures such as the temporal lobe, brain stem, parotid gland, and temporomandibular joint was reduced with the 3-D plan. The probability of tumor control was increased by 6$\%$ with 3-D treatment planning compared to the 2-D planning, while the probability of normal tissue complication was reduced. Conclusion : This study demonstrated the potential advantage of increasing the tumor control by using 3-D planning. but prospective studies are required to define the true clinical benefit.
To get the best result from vacuum freeze drying of water-logged wood, it is necessary for objects to find out the best conditions such as chemicals, appropriate concentration of solution, impregnation method and etc. Such best conditions could be set up by pre-treatment experiments. Two kinds of wood(Pinus densiflora S. et Z. and Quercus acutissima Carruth) were pre-treated by four methods: 2-step PEG treatment(PEG#200-PEG#4000), sorbitol treatment, PEG#200+PEG#4000 treatment, and sorbitol+PEG#4000 treatment. After those pre-treatment, vacuum freeze-drying was undertaken. Then the effect of dimensional stability were compared. When using 2-step PEG treatment, a solution of 60% PEG #4000 got the best dimensional stability for pine and in case of the oak, a solution of 40% PEG#4000 got the best. Sorbitol treatment got rather good result for the pine only when applied with 40% solution of sorbitol. Sorbitol, PEG#200+PEG#4000 and sorbitol+PEG#4000 treatments to the oak didn't affect on dimensional stability sufficiently.
Currently, digital technology is being used in various fields of dental treatment. In particular, in the case of anterior esthetic restoration, the traditional restoration method cannot contain facial information and it is difficult for the patient to predict the treatment result. However, in the case of esthetic restoration through digital design, the visualization of the prosthesis design and the ease of reflecting patient feedback, and expecting the treatment result is available. In this case, the patient confirmed the results of restoration treatment using a digital method before treatment and obtained consent for treatment in an anterior tooth trauma patient. In addition, since the conventional digital smile design method uses only the patient's facial and smile information, the design was made on a two-dimensional plane, and its application was somewhat limited. However, in this case, a three-dimensional virtual patient was created and thus the designed restoration was viewed from various angles. Through this case, it was possible to obtain a high degree of satisfaction with the ease of communication with the patient and the technician during the esthetic restoration using the digital method, the simplicity of the procedure, and the treatment result.

Resistance to anticancer drugs is a major obstacle in the effective treatment of tumors. To understand the mechanisms responsible for multidrug resistance (MDR), a proteomic approach was used to identify proteins that were expressed in different levels by the adriamycinresistant human gastric cancer cell line, SGC7901/ADR, and its parental cell line, SGC7901. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and image analysis was used to determine which protein spots were expressed in different levels by the two cell lines. These spots were then partially identified using ESI-Q-TOF mass spectrometry, and the differential expressional levels of the partially identified proteins were then determined by western blot analysis and real-time RT-PCR. Additionally, the association of Nucleophosmin (NPM1), a protein that was highly expressed by SGC7901/ADR, with MDR was analyzed using siRNA. As a result of this study, well-resolved, reproducible 2-DE patterns of SGC7901/ADR and SGC7901 were established, and 16 proteins that may playa role in the development of thermo resistance were identified. Additionally, suppression of NPMl expression was found to enhance adriamycin chemosensitivity in SGC7901/ADR. These results provide a fundamental basis for the elucidation of the molecular mechanism of MDR, which may assist in the treatment of gastric cancer.
Background: The aim of this report is to present a new reference for aesthetic mandible surgery using three-dimensional cone-beam computed tomography-based treatment planning for orthognathic surgery which can be implemented in surgical planning and perioperative procedure. Methods: To make an objective standard for evaluating aesthetic mandibular outline, we make an aesthetic scoring criteria with consideration of asymmetry, broad mandibular border line, and prominent mandibular angle. Two maxillofacial surgeons and two orthodontists rated their aesthetical evaluation from 1 to 5. Experimental group consisting of 47 female and 38 male patients who had rotational orthognathic two-jaw surgery from 2010 to 2011 were chosen according to aesthetic scoring done by two maxillofacial surgeons and two orthodontists. A high aesthetic score (${\geq}16$) means the facial contour is symmetric, with no broad and narrow aesthetic mandible frontal profiles. Control A group consisted of ten female and ten male patients who had no orthognathic surgery experience and low aesthetic score (${\geq}10$). Control B group consisted of ten female and ten male patients who had no orthognathic surgery experience and had anaesthetic mandibular frontal profile and a high aesthetic score (${\geq}16$). The three-dimensional image of the patient was taken from dental cone-beam CT (DCT) scanning (experimental group and control A group: 6 months DCT after surgery, control B group: 1st visit DCT). Each DCT was reformatted to reorient the 3D image using 3D analyzing program (OnDemand3D, cybermed Inc, CA, USA). After selection of 12 landmarks and the construction of reoriented horizontal, vertical, and coronal reference lines, 15 measurements were taken in 3D analysis of frontal mandibular morphology. Afterwards, horizontal and vertical linear measurements and angular measurements, linear ratio were obtained. Results: Mean $Go^{\prime}_{Rt}-Me^{\prime}-Go^{\prime}_{Lt}$ angular measurement was $100.74{\pm}2.14$ in female patients and $105.37{\pm}3.62$ in male patients. These showed significant difference with control A group in both genders. Ratio of $Go^{\prime}_{Rt}-Go^{\prime}_{Lt}-Me^{\prime}$ length to some linear measurements (ratio of $Me^{\prime}-Cd^{\prime}_{Rt}Cd^{\prime}_{Lt}$ to $Me^{\prime}-Go^{\prime}_{Rt}Go^{\prime}_{Lt}$, ratio of $Me^{\prime}-Go^{\prime}$ to $Me^{\prime}-Go^{\prime}_{Rt}Go^{\prime}_{Lt}$, ratio of $Go^{\prime}_{Rt}-Go^{\prime}_{Lt}$ to $Me^{\prime}-Go^{\prime}_{Rt}Go^{\prime}_{Lt}$) showed significant difference with control A group in both genders. Conclusion: This study was intended to find some standard measurement of mandible frontal view in 3D analysis of aesthetic patient. So, these potential measurement value may be helpful for orthognathic treatment planning to have more aesthetic and perspective outcomes.
Optimization using a hybrid multi-objective evolutionary algorithm coupled with response surface approximation has been performed to improve the performance of a transonic axial compressor with circumferential casing grooves. In order to optimize the operating stability and peak adiabatic efficiency of the compressor with circumferential casing grooves, tip clearance, angle distribution at blade tip and the depth of the circumferential casing grooves are selected as design variables. Three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the shear stress transport turbulence model are discretized by finite volume approximations. The trade-off between two objectives with the interaction of blade and casing treatment is determined and discussed with respect to the representative clusters in the Pareto-optimal solutions compared to the axial compressor without the casing treatment.
The welding residual stress has on important effect on welding deformation, fatigue fracture, buckling strength, brittle fracture, etc. For the purpose of relaxation of welding residual stress, post welding heat treatment is widely used. In this paper, residual stresses were calculated by two dimensional thermal elasto-plastic analysis using finite element method. Heat transfer analysis are performed by transient analysis. Also structure analysis are carried out by of thermal-mechanical coupled analysis. Numerical analysis are used by ANSYS 5.7.
Understanding and control of thermal history of heat-treated components are very important in heat treating process. A computer program was developed for prediction of thermal history in quenching process with various cooling media and agitation conditions. Computer simulation of heat flow in quenching treatment of spur gear of SCM 22 H was carried out by two and three dimensional finite difference method. Distributions of microstructure and hardness in heat-treated spur gear were predicted by computer simulation, and the results showed a good agreement with the experiments. It was concluded that the

Surface engineering of polymers has a broad array of scientific and technological applications that range from tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, microfluidics and novel lab on chip devices to building mechanical memories, stretchable electronics, and devising tunable surface adhesion for robotics. Recent advancements in the field of nanotechnology have provided robust techniques for controlled surface modification of polymers and creation of structural features on the polymeric surface at submicron scale. We have recently demonstrated techniques for controlled surfaces of soft and relatively hard polymers using ion beam irradiation and plasma treatment, which allows the fabrication of nanoscale surface features such as wrinkles, ripples, holes, and hairs with respect to its polymers. In this talk, we discuss the underlying mechanisms of formation of these structural features. This includes the change in the chemical composition of the surface layer of the polymers due to ion beam irradiation or plasma treatment and the instability and mechanics of the skin-substrate system. Using ion beam or plasma irradiation on polymers, we introduce a simple method for fabrication of one-dimensional, two-dimensional and nested hierarchical structural patterns on polymeric surfaces on various polymers such as polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), poly (methyl methacrylate) PMMA, and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS).
Purpose : The purpose of this study is to setup a standard treatment protocol in surgical correction of skeletal malocclusion with Angle Class III patients. We asessed the soft tissue changes according to skeletal changes of patients who have undergone orthognathic surgery with bilateral split sagittal ramus osteotomy (BSSRO) and advancing genioplasty. Materials & Methods : The soft tissue change of 9 skeletal Class III patients was assessed after BSSRO and advancing genioplasty. The patient group was skeletal Class III who was surgically treated by BSSRO & advancing genioplasty. The average follow up period is 13 months with the range of 6 and 30 months. All patients have undergone preoperative and postoperative orthodontic treatment. The assessment was devided into two groups. One was antero-posterior relationship and the other was vertical relationship of dimensional changes of soft tissue after orthognathic surgery. Results : In antero-posterior dimensional changes after surgery, the percentage of soft tissue change in comparison to hard tissue was 89%. Vertical ratio after surgery, 86% soft tissue changes were assessed.
