두 개의 원형 실린더에 작용하는 유체력 (Forces induced by flows past two nearby circular cylinders)

  • Flow-induced forces on two identical nearby circular cylinders immersed in the cross flow at Re =100 were numerically studied. We consider all possible arrangements of the two circular cylinders in terms of the distance between the two cylinders and the inclination angle with respect to the direction of the main flow. It turns out that significant changes in the characteristics of flow-induced forces are noticed depending on how the two circular cylinders are positioned, resulting in quantitative changes of force coefficients on both cylinders. Collecting all the numerical results obtained, we propose a contour diagram for drag coefficient and lift coefficient for each of the two cylinders. The perfect geometrical symmetry implied in the flow configuration allows one to use those diagrams to estimate flow-induced forces on two identical circular cylinders arbitrarily positioned in physical space with respect to the main flow direction.

  • Heat transfer on two identical nearby circular cylinders immersed in the uniform cross flow at Re = 100 and Pr = 7.0 was numerically studied. We consider all possible arrangements of the two circular cylinders in terms of the distance between the two cylinders and the inclination angle with respect to the direction of the main flow. It turns out that significant changes in the characteristics of heat transfer are noticed depending on how the two circular cylinders are positioned, resulting in quantitative changes of heat transfer coefficients on both cylinders. Collecting all the numerical results obtained, we propose a contour diagram for averaged Nusselt number for each of the two cylinders. The perfect geometrical symmetry implied in the flow configuration allows one to use those diagrams to estimate heat transfer rates on two identical circular cylinders arbitrarily positioned in physical space with respect to the main flow direction.

Eight distinct flow patterns were identified based on vorticity contours and streamlines, which are Base-Bleed, Biased-Base-Bleed, Shear- Layer-Reattachment, Induced-Separation, Vortex-Impingement, Flip-Flopping, Modulated Periodic, and Synchronized-Vortex-Shedding. Collecting all the numerical results, we propose a general flow pattern diagram for flows past the two cylinders.   • The singularity system to represent two circular cylinders poised under different ambient flow fields is considered in the present research. The singularity system, being composed of a series of singularities, has to be truncated for numerical calculations. A rational criterion to determine how many terms of this series should be retained to maintain the prescribed accuracy is provided through analysis of the converging property of the series. A particular emphasis is put to how to deal with the discrete vortex model of a boundary layer, this possibility being the basis for the development of a tool to simulate vortex shedding from a structure composed of two circular cylinders. The principle to obtain the present singularity system can be applied to more-than-cylinders structure. Only th series become much more complex with increase of the number of cylinders.

  • As a follow-up of our previous studies on flow-induced forces on two identical nearby circular cylinders immersed in the cross flow at Re=100 and flow patterns past them,$^{(1,2)}$ we present Reynolds-number effects on the forces and patterns by further computing flows with Re=40, 50, 160. We consider all possible arrangements of the two circular cylinders in terms of the distance between the two cylinders and the angle inclined with respect to the main flow direction. Collecting all the numerical results obtained, we propose contour diagrams for mean force coefficients and their rms of fluctuation as well as for flow patterns and Strouhal number for each Re. These diagrams shed light on a comprehensive picture on how the wake interaction between the two cylinders alters depending on Re.

  • Numerical calculations are carried out for the natural convection in a square enclosure with two hot cylinders induced by temperature difference between a cold outer rectangular cylinder and two hot circular cylinders. A two-dimensional solution for unsteady natural convection is obtained, using the immersed boundary method (IBM) to model two inner circular cylinders based on finite volume method, for different Rayleigh numbers varying over the range of $10^3$ to $10^5$. The study goes further to investigate the effect of the location of two cylinders on the heat transfer and fluid flow. The location of inner circular cylinders is changed vertically along the center-line of square enclosure. The changes of heat transfer quantities have been presented.

  • 본 연구는 다양한 배열 상태에 놓인 2원주 주위의 유동장 특성을 PIV를 이용하여 파악한 것이다. 직렬배열에서 하류측 원주의 후방에서 측정한 Strouhal 수는 수평 간격비가 클수록 작게 나타났다. 직렬배열에서 2원주 사이의 흐름은 거의 정체되어 있으며, 상류측 원주에 가까울수록 정체 범위가 크게 나타났다. 직렬배열에서 자유류와 2원주의 중심선이 이루는 받음각()의 미소 변화(${\alpha}$=${\pm}1.0^{\circ}$)에 따라 2원주 사이에는 서로 반대 방향의 와류가 생성되었다. 병렬배열에서 수직 간격비가 클수록 2원주 사이의 유속이 크게 나타났다.
