A Method for Describing the Information of the Broadcasting Program's Time-Slots and Its Application to a Data Service (방송프로그램의 구간 별 부가정보 기술 방법과 이를 활용한 데이터서비스 개발 사례)

  • Although the data service of the digital broadcasting has been regarded as the representative service of the broadcasting and communication convergence, it, however, has failed to gain the popularity with the viewers due to the viewer's viewing modality of focusing only on the TV programs. Based on the experts' opinions that the data service should step up so that using a data service while watching a TV program creates a synergy effect, the paper proposes a method for allowing a data service to utilize the information of a TV program. The method has a tool for describing the information of a TV program's content, which changes as time goes on and provides a mechanism for transmitting the information in the way compatible to the digital broadcasting standard. As an application of the method, with a domestic data service developing company, we have developed a ticker data service that shows the information (e.g., actors, places, sponsors, etc.) of a drama.

Investigating the Influence of a Food-themed TV Program on Delivery Food Order Amount Using Big Data with Difference-in-Differences Method (빅 데이터를 이용한 음식방송의 효과 확인: 이중차이분석을 적용하여)

  • This study suggests a case for people who are unfamiliar with data analysis to equip them in using big data easily without complex programming tasks. Consequently, we investigate whether a food-themed TV program influences the number of delivery food orders with the use of the difference-in-differences method. Results show that the number of delivery food orders significantly increased after broadcasting four of five food-themed TV program episodes, each of which focuses on a particular delivery food. This study contributes to the existing literature by presenting the possibility that food-themed TV programs can positively affect not only the broadcast delivery food stores but also the entire delivery food business. In addition, this study provides practical contributions by recommending a big data analysis methodology that can be easily employed by many people.

  • With the start of digital broadcasting, TV screen, there is provided a new broadcast service is called EPG (Electronic Program Guide) that can be retrieved directly to a channel or program. However, a study considering the EPG of the user interface on the viewer position is so far insufficient. TV is because everyone watching the media, rather than a specific layer is necessary in order to find easy, intuitive user interface for the program to the viewer. That is, it is possible to quickly find the program to select the attributes that the TV viewer can be easily understood by using the EPG. To this end, this paper first genres which are representative of the properties that distinguish a TV program, time, rating, etc. were systematically classified. So viewers the values of the properties but to specify organized by the EPG, the order of attributes that specify the value we design a user interface that can be selected as having easy. And compare the superiority of the function evaluation of the two through the EPG in the EPG Usability Test proposed by the EPG with the existing commercial paper.

Connecting Online Video Clips to a TV Program: Watching Online Video Clips on a TV Screen with a Related Program (인터넷 비디오콘텐츠를 관련 방송프로그램과 함께 TV환경에서 시청하기 위한 기술 및 방법에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we presented the concept and some methods to watch online video clips related to a TV program on atelevision which is called lean-back media, and we simulated our concept on a PC system. The key point of this research is suggesting a new service model to TV viewers and the TV industry, which the model provides simple and easy ways to watch online video clips on a TV screen. The paper defined new tags for metadata and algorithm for the model, then showed simple example using those metadata. At the end, it mentioned the usage of the model in the digital broadcasting environment and discuss about the issues which should handle as future works.

Genre-specific Cultivation Effect of Reality-based TV Programs: Perceived Realism's Mediation and Fatalistic Beliefs (리얼리티 표방 TV 프로그램 장르의 문화계발 효과: 현실유사성 인식의 매개와 숙명적 태도에 미치는 영향을 중심으로)

  • Classic cultivation theory and research has been noted for its failure to capture subtle variation in effects by genre and to consider tangible and practical dependent variables. Redressing these limitations, this study aimed at extending cultivation theory frame to incorporating fatalistic attitudes and reality television viewing, especially with the mediator of perceived realism. We first replicated the original cultivation effect by showing the significant effect of overall TV viewing. Even controlling for overall TV viewing, reality-based program use showed positive association with fatalistic beliefs; furthermore, the effect remained significant, additionally controlling for news(fact) use and drama(fiction) use. In a nutshell, the cultivation effect of reality-based TV program on fatalistic beliefs turns out quite stable even after controlling other competing genres.

  • 본격적인 디지털 데이터 방송 시대를 맞이하여 TV는 다양하고 인터랙티브한 서비스의 제공이 가능해 졌다. 디지털 TV의 데이터 서비스는 매우 다양하다. 그 중 Electronic Program Guide(EPG)는 가장 기초가 되는 서비스이다. EPG의 아키텍쳐를 설계하기에 앞서 TV 프로그램에 대한 분류와 데이터 베이스화가 선행되어야 하며 이렇게 만들어진 Program Content Profile(PCP)와 사용자가 설정해 준 후 자동으로 갱신되는 User Preference Profile (UPP)는 EPG 어플리케이션의 스마트 기능 중 하나인 방송 프로그램 추천 기능을 가능케 해주며, 그 외에도 여러 스마트 기능들을 구현하는 중요한 척도이다. 본 논문은 이러한 모든 아키텍쳐를 시험적으로 설계 구현하였으며 그 예를 보여준다.

  • Digital TV broadcasting technology is recognized as a very encouraging technological development by koreans because of high-definition, multi-channel and interactive services which would broaden the viewers choice and promote people's prosperity. The technological development of digital TV service is a drastic change for people's convenience and would be a major media of‘e-government’in Korea. Digital TV Program UI will affect to people's esthetic sense and information efficiency. The information search pattern in TV is different from it of computer which has lead interactive media so far This research verifies the reasonable information display method through the usability test based on former related researches. For the case study, Interactive EPG design of SkyLife is selected and reviewed. This research includes the design development of interactive EPG of DVB-MHP.

  • 중국의 고령화 사회의 현황을 연구배경으로 중국의 고령층 TV프로그램의 발전현황 및 노인층의 심리 및 생리적 수요를 중심으로 연구를 진행하였다. 문헌 검색, 인터넷 검색, 인터뷰 등 다양한 방식으로 중국의 노인층을 대상으로 한 TV프로그램의 현황에 관한 조사를 진행하였으며, 노인층을 대상으로 한 TV프로그램의 특징과 문제점, 중국이 고령사회로 발전하는 과정에서 나타나는 노인층의 생리 및 심리적 수요를 한중일의 성공적 TV프로그램 사례를 토대로 분석을 진행하였다.

Effects of a Prevention Program for Media Addiction on Television Addiction, Internet Addiction, Cellular Addiction, and Impulsiveness in Elementary School Students (매체 중독 예방 프로그램이 초등학생의 텔레비전 중독, 인터넷 중독, 휴대전화 중독 및 충동성에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a prevention program for media addiction in elementary school students, and to examine its effects on television addiction, internet addiction, cellular phone addiction, and impulsiveness. Methods: The study was designed using a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The participants were 58 elementary school students (29 in the experimental group and 29 in the control group). Students in the experimental group were given the prevention program for media addiction. The data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 19.0 program. Results: Students in the experimental group reported a significant decrease in television addiction compared to students in the control group. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that the prevention program for media addiction was effective in decreasing television addiction in elementary school students.

Children′s Attitudes Toward Food Advertisement on Children′s Television Program (어린이 시간대 식품광고에 대한 어린이들의 수용 태도)

  • The study was conducted to investigate children's attitudes toward food advertisement on children's television programs. A total of 868 subjects were selected from two KangNam and KangBook elementary schools (4, 5, 6th graders). First, it was reviewed food ads. On children's television program on 3 channels between 5∼7 pm from April to July in 1997. Among the total television commercials, 58% were food product ads.. Among the advertised food, the largest number of ads. was for beverages (21.6%) and the next was for cookies (19.7%), followes by sharbet and ice cream (19.5%), fast food (12.4%), cereal (5.5%) and milk and milk products (2.9%). This review revealed that the mostly advertised food are high in calorie, fat and sugar. Secondly, it was conducted a survey. The results of the survey were as follows: weekly average TV watching hours per child: 13.5. 50.8% of the children watched children's program on TV. 83.9% of the subjcts answered that they get their information about new food through TV ads.. 59.2% of children tried to buy the food advertised on TV program. The relationship between TV food ads. and health, 49.4% of the children answered that advertised food were not good for one's health. When we asked them to choose between advertised and non-advertised food, they preferred the advertised ones, such as cookies, beverages, fast food restaurants and cereals (p<0.001). The results of this study suggest that children's purchasing and selecting of food were influenced by TV food advertisement. Therefore, education is needed which will help children's make responsible, informed consumers choices.
