Effect of TV Restaurant Review Program Attributes on Food Service Consumer's Empathy, Attitude, and Visit Intentions (TV 맛집 프로그램의 정보특성이 외식소비자의 감정이입과 태도, 방문의도에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • Recently, many TV restaurant programs become popular, and TV restaurant programs have a big impact on Korean restaurant consumers. The purpose of this study was to understand the effects of information attributes in Korean TV restaurant review programs food service customer's empathy, attitudes and visit intention. Based on a total of 254 samples obtained from the empirical research, this study reviewed the reliability and fitness of the research model using the Amos program. The hypothesized relationships in the model were tested simultaneously by using structural equation model (SEM). SEM showed that the beneficialness (${\beta}=.187$, p<.01), amusement (${\beta}=.427$, p<.001) and vividness (${\beta}=.243$, p<.01) showed positive significant effects on customer's empathy. Customer's empathy had a positive significant effect on attitudes (${\beta}=.645$, p<.001) and visit intentions (${\beta}=.157$, p<.001). The information attributes of TV restaurant programs and the causal relationship between empathy of consumers were examined. We also verified that empathy positively affects attitudes toward intentions to visit restaurants introduced on TV restaurant programs. Limitations and future research directions are also discussed.

Classification of TV Program Scenes Based on Audio Information

  • In this paper, we propose a classification system of TV program scenes based on audio information. The system classifies the video scene into six categories of commercials, basketball games, football games, news reports, weather forecasts and music videos. Two type of audio feature set are extracted from each audio frame-timbral features and coefficient domain features which result in 58-dimensional feature vector. In order to reduce the computational complexity of the system, 58-dimensional feature set is further optimized to yield l0-dimensional features through Sequential Forward Selection (SFS) method. This down-sized feature set is finally used to train and classify the given TV program scenes using κ -NN, Gaussian pattern matching algorithm. The classification result of 91.6% reported here shows the promising performance of the video scene classification based on the audio information. Finally, the system stability problem corresponding to different query length is investigated.

User's characteristics on the screen adjustment of color TV (칼라 TV의 화면조정에 관한 사용자 특성)

  • User's characteristics on the screen adjustment of color TV were studied. Two experiments were performed. In the first experiment, the characteristic of screen adjustment according to TV program, ambient luminance, and gender was investigated. Twenty subjects (10 females and 10 males) were participated in this experiment. Set points of brightness, contrast, tint, and color were measured on TV screen and analyzed. Brightness and contrast were significant on gender at significant level 0.01 and color was significant on gender at significant level 0.1. Tint was significant on program at significant level 0.01. The second experiment was performed to supplement the first experiment. The influences of ambient luminance, presented image, screen setting criteria, and gender were investigated. We simplified the first experiment in the second one. We restricted dependent variables (screen control variables) to only two, brightness and contrast. Other control variables were fixed to middle values. Brightness and contrast were significant on gender and screen setting criteria at significant level 0.01. In conclusion, we found that ambient luminance and presented image had no significant effects on TV screen adjustment and TV program had only a significant effect on tint. However, we found that gender and screen setting criteria had significant effects in most conditions.

  • This study identified what children's TV program model should KBS offer to the realization of the value of children audience. Results demonstrated that educational and norm, content diversity & children's interest, cultural diversity, and program accessibility were derived as the characteristics of children's programs pursued by parents bringing up children. This study further expects the efforts of KBS to provide children's programs that people want may serve as a key mechanism for enhancing awareness of the need for public broadcasting and contributing to the realization of normalizing TV license fees.

The Effects of Mid-program Advertising on Audience's Preference of Television Program (중간광고가 TV프로그램 시청 만족도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this research was to provide an objective and scientific basis for the effect of mid-advertising on viewers' rights by conducting an empirical study on how mid-program advertising affects viewer satisfaction and interest from the viewers' perspective. The experiment was conducted on 210 subjects to investigate the difference between viewers' interest in the program and purchase intention price. The results did not support the hypothesis that advertisements inserted in the middle of television programs would affect the dependent variables. The theoretical and practical implications of the mid-program advertisements on the interests of viewers were discussed.

  • The space for production, such as studios and control rooms, is a space for TV program production, which is the main function of broadcast. A block planning for such space should be carefully designed, because it can significantly affect the efficiency of production, as well as future productivity and the development and expandability of production. From the results of comparative analysis of 7 local terrestrial broadcasters built since the late 1990s, this study will. propose an ideal block planning for the future construction of local terrestrial broadcasters. Also, the results can be used a basic data when constructing new buildings for local broadcasters.

  • 최근 디지털 TV 방송의 활성화에 힘입어 수많은 채널을 통한 TV 프로그램 방송이 가능하게 되었다. 이로 인해 디지털 TV 시청자들은 신문 또는 TV 가이드와 같은 기존 인쇄매체를 통해 자신이 원하는 TV 프로그램 스케줄을 얻기가 사실상 매우 어렵게 되었다. 이와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위해 디지털 TV 환경에서는 전자 프로그램 가이드(EPG: Electronic Program Guide)를 제공한다. 현재 제공되고 있는 EPG 서비스들은 대개 디지털 TV 화면 또는 각 방송사 웹 사이트 그리고 이동 단말기 등을 통해서 서비스 되고 있다. 대부분의 기존 연구들은 EPG 정보를 화면상에 시각적으로 제공하는 측면에만 초점을 두고 있다. 하지만 실질적으로 사용자 입장에서는 원하는 방송 프로그램의 스케줄 정보를 찾기 위해서 수백 채널에 달하는 방송 프로그램에 대한 정보를 일일이 검색하는 것은 매우 힘든 일이다. 게다가 사용자가 원하는 키워드를 직접 입력하는 방식 또한 사용자를 매우 번거롭게 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 EPG 서비스 방식에 VoiceXML 관련 기술을 접목하여 이동 단말기상에서 간단한 음성입력을 통해 EPG 서비스를 제공받을 수 있는 음성 인터페이스를 제안한다.

Analyzing the Producer's Attitudes toward Specialist's Advice and the Panelist Constitution of Nutrition-related TV programs (식생활관련 TV프로그램의 전문가 자문에 대한 제작자 태도와 출연자 구성의 분석)

  • In order to investigate if nutrition-related TV programs give the public correct and useful imformation, 26 producers(PD) having worked for any one of the nutirtion-related TV programs were surveyed by using questionnaire on the attitudes toward seeking an expert's advice about the issues and the panelist's constitution of one typical nutrition-related TV show program broadcasted during the last 5 years was analyzed. The most important reason for selecting the nutrition-related issues was to satisfy the interests and demands of audiences. Both being motivated by food-related accidents and to educate people for the health promotion were the second ones. In the process of nutrition-related program production, 53.9% of PDs always requested expert's advice, while 46.1% occasionally did. Professors in food and nutrition were regarded as the most proper advisor. Dietitians, physicians and physicians of Chinese medicine wer the next in order. The similar pattern were shown in the rankd of specialists actually invited as panelists to the program. Both the speciality and being well-known were less positive and favorable for participating in the program compared to experts in other areas. The number of programs about food and nutrition broadcasted on the TV show during 1993-1997(July) was 361(about 30%). The total of 1,043 specialists appeared, 2.9 persons per program on the average. Of these, only 12.9% were professors in food and nutrition as well as dietitians. The largest(20.2%) was physicians or medical professors, and 13.6% cooks and 12.6% physicians of Chinese medicine. Of 361 programs 45 were thought to be undesirable on the panelist constitution. Particualrly in 19 programs, where nutritionists were not invited, physicians or physicians of Chinese medicine explained diet therapy, food, nutrient or dietary habit.

The Impact of Watching Motives of Parenting Reality TV Program on User Satisfaction and Rewatching (육아 리얼리티 프로그램 시청동기가 이용자 만족과 재시청에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 : <아빠! 어디가?>, <슈퍼맨이 돌아왔다>를 중심으로)

  • This study investigates the impact of watching motives of parenting reality TV Program, (MBC), (KBS2) on user satisfaction and rewatching. Viewing motives of parenting reality TV Program are found as 'interest', 'charm of children characters', 'relief of loneliness' and 'express everyday feelings'. The result shows that there is significant difference in watching time according to the factor of 'charm of children characters'. Also 'interest' and 'expression of everyday feelings' affect viewing satisfaction of viewers. It is necessary to plan interesting reality program and arrange attractive characters to improve viewing satisfaction of TV program.

  • Since the introduction of digital broadcasting, an additional advanced service called EPG has been brought to viewers. EPG (Electronic Program Guide) helps people select channels or programs. But existing user Interfaces for EPG are not convenient enough for the viewer. TV is the media anyone can access. Therefore, the 'look and feel' user interface is needed to guide the viewer to select their favorite programs without any difficulties. Generally, TV programs can be categorized by their attributes such as genre, broadcasting hours, and TV ratings. At the present moment, those attributes are not categorized systematically enough for easy program navigation. This paper presents how to organize the attributes of TV programs systematically and offers a user friendly interface to help the viewer access their favorite programs by specifying the values of the attributes in any order comfortable to them.
