Modeling of Railway Networks for LRT Test Line Using Petri Nets (페트리 네트를 이용한 경량전철시험선 선로의 모형화)

  • This paper presents the use of the Petri Net Method for modeling railway tracks. The Petri Net is defined as having the characteristics of a parallel, asynchronous, distributed, inconclusive, statistical, etc. information handling system and is a graphical mathematical modeling tool to study the specifics of active movement. It's proven use can be seen at the Korean type Light Rail testing tracks where they modelled the Petri Net method using the train track encasing the segment, track, turnout, and platform as a singular factor and even though two trains either travelling in the same or opposite directions on a single test track equipped with a sidetrack can travel with the guarantee that the two will not collide.

  • This study aims to provide fundamental information required to establish an efficient maintenance and management system for fire fighting clothing which takes into account the domestic fire protection environment and situation. There aren't any detailed regulations and appropriate pre-inspection systems which would be required for proper maintenance of fire fighting clothing, as well as any test methods to determine the life spans of fire fighting clothing properly. Thus, this study tries to analyze the problems in use of fire fighting clothing and its maintenance situation and summarize overseas maintenance situation for fire fighting clothing. As a result, it is found that domestic fire fighting clothing is washed, repaired, and stored without any systematic management regulations. It is also found that the life spans of fire fighting clothing are determined, based on part of overseas management regulations on fire fighting clothing. Therefore, it is imperative to set up efficient management regulations and test methods for fire fighting clothing which would be required for efficient use of the fire fighting budgets and the life safety of fire fighters.

  • In order to improve the speed of railway, several parameters and/or technical issues, which are affecting speed improvement negatively, need to be considered in addition to the enhancement of physical performance of the railway system such as maximum speed, speed at curve, and speed at turnout track. The parameters under complicated situation of railway system are from the areas of rolling stocks, track, power system, signalling, etc. In general, two different aspects of technical issues can be evaluated; Technical issues in the hardware aspect and technical issues in the software aspect. The hardware parameters include running performance, braking performance, and power performance, while the software factors are rules, regulations, and riding quality. In this investigation, a comparison study between hardware and software aspects in technical issues was conducted to provide technical information on the amendment of railway speed-up regulations.

  • The railway advance policy from Korea government, KORAIL have to reduce a half of his railway business loss until 2010 and turnout railway business black ink until 2012. To overcome this difficult management situation, KORAIL has been set up new marketing organization in Seoul station which is necessary and venerable. According to the leadership of Seoul station master, Seoul station's marketing team was launched at April 2008. The marketing team will introduce total marketing for KORAIL corporation in their marketing activity such as advertisement, B to B railway tickets, railway travel package sales and customer satisfaction event with other corporations, and so on. After automated ticket system(SMS and Home-printed ticket) will lead to existing ticket sales persons to become activating marketing team members. In the organization case study in Seoul station, this study how to manage new marketing team have a great performance last 8 months and analysed what was a successful factors and principals, and also their team limits within KORAIL's organization structure. In the long run, we suggest that how can be this team to be support within KORAIL system such as incentive system, payment system, and marketing budgets etc.

  • Superimposition of horizontal and vertical curves may hamper the ride comfort and the running stability of train and largely affect the maintenance cost. However, in many cases, it's not easy to make a track plan because of the fixed points (bridge, tunnel, turnout, catenary system, etc.) to be avoided due to the geographic conditions or to be passed for utilization of existing structures. In this study, when the horizontal and vertical curves are superimposed, in order to optimize the horizontal curve in aspect of the ride comfort, the object function $P_{CT}$ was developed and verified by vehicle dynamic analysis. Also, the solution algorithm for simplified evaluation method was presented.

Damage Analysis of Manganese Crossings for Turnout System of Sleeper Floating Tracks on Urban Transit (도시철도 침목플로팅궤도 분기기 망간크로싱의 손상해석)

  • The turnout system of the sleeper floating tracks (STEDEF) on urban transit is a Anti-vibration track composed of a wooden sleeper embedded in a concrete bed and a sleeper resilience pad under the sleeper. Therefore, deterioration and changes in spring stiffness of the sleeper resilience pad could be cause changes in sleeper support conditions. The damage amount of manganese crossings that occurred during the current service period of about 21 years was investigated to be about 17% of the total amount of crossings, and it was analyzed that the damage amount increased after 15 years of use (accumulated passing tonnage of about 550 million tons). In this study, parameter analysis (wheel position, sleeper support condition, and dynamic wheel load) was performed using a three-dimensional numerical model that simulated real manganese crossing and wheel profile, to analyze the damage type and cause of manganese crossing that occurred in the actual field. As a result of this study, when the voided sleeper occurred in the sleeper around the nose, the stress generated in the crossing nose exceeded the yield strength according to the dynamic wheel load considering the design track impact factor. In addition, the analysis results were evaluated to be in good agreement with the location of damage that occurred in the actual field. Therefore, in order to minimize the damage of the manganese crossing, it is necessary to keep the sleeper support condition around the nose part constant. In addition, by considering the uniformity of the boundary conditions under the sleepers, it was analyzed that it would be advantageous to to replace the sleeper resilience pad together when replacing the damaged manganese crossing.

  • The Cambodian People's Party swept all 125 assembly seats with 76.78% of the vote in 2018 general elections. The Cambodian National Rescue Party, having been dissolved by court, was excluded from the election and attempted to nullify the legitimacy of the election by demanding its supporters to boycott the election. The Cambodian People's Party launched a campaign encouraging to vote in a desperate need to thwart the boycott movement. The election then became an unprecedented kind of competition the winner of which is decided not by the percentage of the vote but by turnout. The Cambodian People's Party was the winner with the high turnout of 82.89%, securing the means to defend the legitimacy of the election. The potential supporters of the Cambodian National Rescue Party spread out with about a million voters switching to support the Cambodian People's Party. Over a half million invalid votes that unequivocally voiced opposition to the Cambodian People's Party were not sufficient to deny the legitimacy of the election. Having experienced the fierce competition in the 2013 general elections that threatened to end its rule, the Cambodian People's Party decided to secure its power in the upcoming election and executed a tactic designed to remove the rival party through legal means. Competition being removed, the Cambodian political system decayed back to hegemonic electoral authoritarianism from competitive electoral authoritarianism to which it had mad gradual progress through the general elections in the past.

A Study on Evaluation Method of Ride Comfort Considering Superimposition of Vertical and Horizontal Curve (종곡선과 평면곡선 경합을 고려한 승차감 평가기법에 관한 연구)

  • When the horizontal and vertical curves are superimposed in railway alignments, which affects the running stability, ride comfort, and track maintenance costs. However, when designing new lines or realigning existing ones, there are many cases of superimposition caused by the existing fixed points (bridge, tunnel, turnout, and catenary system, etc) on the conventional lines and undesirable impacts on the environment, etc. In this study, when the horizontal and vertical curves are superimposed, in order to optimize the horizontal curve in aspect of the ride comfort, the object function was developed and verified by vehicle dynamic analysis.   • An electric point-machine which changes over a turnout so that it enables a train to be operated in the routine that a train is to proceed has been installed and used in most of the railways such as not only urban railways but also main-line railways. Most of the maintenance works in this electric point-machine is that the maintenance workers manually measure motor power, control power and display power in the site with the use of portable counters. Especially in case of NS or NS-AM electric point machine, the maintenance cycle is so frequent that during the operation casualty accidents caused by carelessness occurs as well as more staff is required for this measurement. In this paper we propose a system for monitoring the state of electric point machine installed in the site to improve maintenance efficiency and it is expected that this monitoring system confirms any measured values on electric point machines in real-time and improves maintenance efficiency.

  • South Korea has achieved remarkable social and economic development together with the process of democratization over the past 20 years. In the democratic process in South Korea, ordinary people have actively participated in conventional political activities such as elections. But recently, one of the salient phenomena is that the public have been showing political apathy associated with a light poll. Especially, the most serious concern in the political environment of South Korea is that young voters (e.g., 20-30s) have serious political apathy leading to low voter turnout. Regarding this concern, many political scientists argued that this political phenomenon is not only the case in South Korea, insisting that many consolidated democratic countries such as European countries and the US have the same problems. However, South Korea has contained different factors (e.g., historical, culture, social, and political differences) leading to political apathy and light poll. Unfortunately, no one has clearly explain the phenomenon. In fact, in order for scholars to understand and explain these concerns, they should carefully look at the phenomenon with diverse perspectives and approaches. The main purpose of this paper is to explain why the digital generation has political apathy and are reluctant to participate in political activities such as voting. Using causal loop analysis which is based on systematic thinking, we not only analyzed the pattern of the digital generation' political participation with regard to diverse perspectives, but also attempted to draw new political implications from the analysis. Based on our analysis, we tried to suggest some implications for political stability and development in South Korea in the future.
