In this study, a novel zero voltage zero current transition (ZVZCT) bidirectional DC-DC converter is proposed by employing coupled inductors. This converter can turn the main switch on at ZVZCT and it can turn it off with zero voltage switching (ZVS) for both the boost and buck modes. These characteristics are obtained by using a simple auxiliary sub-circuit regardless of the power flow direction. In the boost mode, the auxiliary switch achieves zero current switching (ZCS) turn-on and ZVS turn off. Due to the coupling inductors, this converter can make further efficiency improvements because the resonant energy in the capacitor or inductor can be transferred to the load. The main diode operates with ZVT turn-on and ZCS turn-off in the boost mode. For the buck mode, there is a releasing circuit to conduct the currents generated by the magnetic flux leakage to the output. The auxiliary switch turns on with ZCS and it turns off with ZVT. The main diode also turns on with ZVT and turns off with ZCS. The design method and operation principles of the converter are discussed. A 500 W experimental prototype has been built and verified by experimental results.
This paper proposes a novel Auxiliary Resonant Commutated Pole Inverter (ARCPI) topology. The conventional ARCPIs make the hard switching at turn-off likewise the conventional PWM inverters. Therefore, turn-off switching losses may be so serious and can be so much considerable in high power level. The proposed ARCPI can solve this problem with high frequency transformers, switches, and capacitors. All the switches in the expanded auxiliary circuit achieves the soft switching and operates only during the commutating intervals. The characteristics and the analysis for each operation mode are described in detail and the validity is verified by the simulations and the experimental results.
This paper presents a new soft-switching partial series resonant DC/DC converter (PSRC) with zero-voltage on/off simultaneously, suitable for application in the high power and high frequency switching. The proposed converter has not only advantages of the conventional PSRC but also zero-voltage turn-on and turn-off of the main switches for the entire load ranges by adding the auxiliary circuit, and zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) turn-on of the auxiliary switches. The operation principles of the new converter are explained in detail and the several interesting simulation and experimental results verify the validity of the proposed circuit.

In this paper, the effects of trap distribution on switching characteristis of a lateral insulated gate bipolar transistor (LIGBT) are investigated. The simulations are performed in order to to analyze the effect of the positon, width and concentration of trap distribution model with a reduced minority carrier lifetime using 2D device simulator MEDICI. The turn off time for the proposed LIGBT model A with the trap injection is 0.8$mutextrm{s}$. These results indicate the improvement of about 2 times compared with the conventional LIGBT. It is shown that the trap distribution model is very effective to reduce the turn-off time with a little increasing of on-state voltage drop.

In this paper, the resonant inverter of SEPP-LCC type is proposed and described the operating principle. As adding t two capacitors in the switching devices in parallel. the proposed inverter can reduce switching losses. noise and voltage s stress at Turn-on and Turn-off. The analysis of the proposed circuit are described by using the normalized parameters. The data of design are got by the characteristic values and an example of the design's method is proposed. In addition. t the justification of theoretical analysis is verified by comparing to the experimental waveforms.
In this paper an Improved Zero Voltage Zero Current Pulse Width Modulation Forward converter which employs a simple resonance snubber circuit is introduced. A simple snubber circuit consists of a capacitor, an inductor and two diodes. In proposed converter, switch Q1 operates at ZCS turn-on, and ZVS turn-off conditions and all-passive semiconductor devices operate at ZVZCS turn-on and turn-off state. The proposed converter is analyzed and various operating modes of the ZVZCS-PWM forward converter are discussed. Analysis and design considerations are presented and the prototype experimental results of a 100w (40 V/2.5A) proposed converter operating at 30 KHz switching frequency confirm the validity of theoretical analysis.

This paper presents two new circuit topologies of DC bus lineside active edge resonant snubber assisted soft-switching PWM full-bridge DC-DC converter acceptable for either utility AC 200V-rms or AC 400V-rms input voltage source. One topology of proposed DC-DC converters is composed of a typical voltage source-fed full-bridge high frequency PWM inverter using DC busline side series power semiconductor switching devices with the aid of a parallel capacitive lossless snubber. All the active power switches in the full-bridge arms and DC busline can achieve ZCS turn-on and ZVS turn-off commutations and the total turn-off switching power losses of all active switches can be reduced for high-frequency switching action. It is proved that the more the switching frequency of full-bridge soft switching inverter increases, the more soft-switching PWM DC-DC converter with a hish frequency transformer link has remarkable advantages for its efficiency and power density as compared with the conventional hard-switching PWM inverter type DC-DC converter
This paper describes a three-phase converter with high power factor using a scheme of discontinuous current mode(DCM). The proposed system can replace the conventional diode bridge with step-up chopper which is used as a converter for adjustable speed drive. In this system, the current of reactor is zero at turn-on instance because of operation in DCM, while the switch turns off at the instance of maximum current. A soft-switching scheme with lossless snubber was proposed. Therefore, a zero-voltage switching at turn off can be achived by lossless snubber and zero-current switching at turn on can be obtained by operating under DCM. A theoretical analysis and computer simulations with PSpice were done to verify the operation of the proposed system. Also a prototype of hardware system was built and tested for verifying the feasibility of proposed system.

Proton irradiation technology was used for improvement of switching characteristics of the PT-IGBT. Proton irradiation was carried out at 5.56 MeV energy with $1{\times}10^{12}/cm^2$ doze from the back side of the wafer. The I-V, breakdown voltage, and turn-off delay time of the device were analyzed and compared with those of un-irradiated device and e-beam irradiated device which was conventional method for minority carrier lifetime reduction. For proton irradiated device, the breakdown voltage and the on-state voltage were 733 V and 1.85 V which were originally 749 V and 1.25 V, respectively. The turn-off time has been reduced to 170 ns, which was originally $6{\mu}s$ for the un-irradiated device. The proton irradiated device was superior to e-beam irradiated device for the breakdown voltage and the on-state voltage which were 698 V and 1.95 V, respectively, nevertheless turn-off time of proton irradiated device was reduced to about 60 % compared to that of the e-beam irradiated device.
In this paper, authors propose a novel step-up AC-DC chopper operated with power factor correction (PFC) and with high efficiency. The proposed chopper behaves with discontinuous current control (DCC) of input current. The input current waveform in the proposed chopper is got to be a discontinuous sinusoid form in proportion to magnitude of ac input voltage under the constant duty cycle switching. Therefore, the input power factor is nearly unity and the control method is simple. In the general DCC chopper, the switching devices are turned-on with the zero current switching, but turn-off of the switching devices is switched at current maximum value. To achieve a soft switching of the switching turn-off, the proposed chopper is used a new partial resonant circuit. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of chopper is high.
