This paper describes the phenomena of wake-induced transition of the boundary layers on a NACA0012 airfoil using measured phase-averaged data. Especially, the phase-averaged wall shear stresses are reasonably evaluated using the principle of Computational Preston Tube Method. Due to the passing wake, the turbulent patch is generated in the laminar boundary layer on the airfoil and the boundary layer becomes temporarily transitional. The patches propagate downstream with less speed than free-stream velocity and merge with each other at further down stream station, and the boundary layer becomes more transitional. The generation of turbulent patch at the leading edge of the airfoil mainly depends on velocity defects and turbulent intensity profiles of passing wakes. However, the growth and merging of turbulent patches depend on local streamwise pressure gradients as well as characteristics of turbulent patches. In this transition process, the present experimental data show very similar features to the previous numerical and experimental studies. It is confirmed that the two phase-averaged mean velocity dips appear in the outer region of transitional boundary layer for each passing cycle. Relatively high values of the phase-averaged turbulent fluctuations in the outer region indicate the possibility that breakdown occurs in the outer layer not near the wall.
An interscale transport of the turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) and Reynolds shear stress (RSS) is examined in an adverse pressure gradient (APG) turbulent boundary layer (TBL). The direct numerical simulation data of an APG TBL at Reτ = 834 and β = 1.45 is employed. The TKE and RSS transport equations are divided into large and small scales, leading to the introduction of interscale transport. The TKE mainly transfers from large scales to small ones in the outer region, and vice versa for the RSS. An interscale transport of TKE and inverse interscale transport of RSS are amplified by APG, and the latter results in the increase in large scales of TKE production. Some of outer large scales of enhanced TKE transfer to small scales and then dissipate by viscosity, and the remains dissipate turbulent-non-turbulent interfaces by turbulent transport.
Experiments of shock-wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction were conducted by using a supersonic wind tunnel. Nominal Mach number was varied in the range of 1.6 to 3.0 by means of different nozzles. The objective of the present study is to investigate the effects of boundary layer suction on normal shock-wave oscillations caused by shock wave/boundary layer interaction in a straight duct. Two-dimensional slits were installed on the top and bottom walls of the duct to bleed turbulent boundary layer flows. The bleed flows were measured by an orifice. The ratio of the bleed mass flow to main mass flow was controlled below the range of 11 per cent. Time-mean and fluctuating wall pressures were measured, and Schlieren optical observations were made to investigate time-mean flow field. Time variations in the shock wave displacement were obtained by a high-speed camera system. The results show that boundary layer suction by slits considerably reduce shock-wave oscillations. For the design Mach number of 2.3, the maximum amplitude of the oscillating shock-wave reduces by about 75% compared with the case of no slit for boundary layer suction.

Experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of the surface roughness on the flat plate turbulent boundary layer. The square rods were installed at the leading edge to make surface roughness. The particle image velocimetry was used to measure the mean velocities and velocity fluctuation component. All measurements were made over a range of w/k=1. 2 5 and $Re_x=80.000{\sim}360,000$. Friction velocity was measured by using Clauser plot method. The level of turbulent intensities on roughness surface appears more strongly than that of turbulent intensities on flat plate. A correlation of boundary layer thickness in term of $Re_x$ and w/k are presented.
Direct numerical simulation database of an axial turbulent boundary layer is used to compute frequency and wave number spectra of the wall shear-stress fluctuations in a low-Reynolds number axial turbulent boundary layer. One-dimensional and two-dimensional power spectra of flow variables are calculated and compared. At low wave numbers and frequencies, the power of streamwise shear stress is larger than that of spanwise shear stress, while the powers of both stresses are almost the same at high wave numbers and frequencies. The frequency/streamwise wave number spectra of the wall flow variables show that large-scale fluctuations to the rms value is largest for the stream wise shear stress, while that of small-scale fluctuations to the rms value is largest for pressure. In the two-point auto-correlations, negative correlation occurs in streamwise separations for pressure, and in span wise correlation for both shear stresses.
It is important to completely understand heat/mass transfer from a flat plate because it is a basic element of heat/mass transfer. In the present study, local heat/mass transfer coefficient is obtained for two flow conditions to investigate the effect of boundary layer using the naphthalene sublimation technique. Obtained local heat/mass transfer coefficient is converted to dimensionless parameters such as Sherwood number, Stanton number and Colburn j-factor. These also are compared with correlations of laminar and turbulent heat/mass transfer from a flat plate. According to experimental results, local Sherwood number and local Stanton number are in much better agreement with the correlation of turbulent region rather than laminar region, which means analogy between heat/mass transfer and momentum transfer is more suitable for turbulent boundary layer. But average Sherwood number and average Colburn j-factor representing analogy between heat/mass transfer and momentum transfer are consistent with the correlation of laminar boundary layer as well as turbulent boundary layer.

A 3-dimensional compressible turbulent boundary layer solver has been developed. A time marching method is used to integrate the turbulent boundary layer equations. While the direct integration of the boundary layer equations is performed for unseparated flow regions, the inverse integration is performed for separated flow regions. The program is verified for flows that have analytical solutions or other numerical results. The solver will be merged with an Euler solver for viscous-inviscid interaction.

The effects of various tripping structures on turbulent boundary layer subjected to adverse pressure gradient were examined. The profiles are compared to zero pressure gradient and adverse pressure gradient. The increases of tripping structures of height, k are affects almost flow parameter included velocity fluctuation, skin friction coefficient and turbulent boundary thickness.
