The Daily Experiences of People with Chronic Schizophrenia (만성 정신분열병환자의 살아온 경험)

  • Purpose: This research investigated the daily experiences of patients' lives to develop a formal theory that explains the lives of schizophrenic patients. Method: A grounded theory method(Strauss & Corbin, 1998) guided the data collection and analysis. Thirteen patients who were diagnosed with schizophrenia in regional communities participated. Result: The experiences of chronic schizophrenic patients are defined as "escaping from a fallen mine" comparing their suffering to that of entrapped miners trying to free themselves from a collapsed mine tunnel with much difficulty and without hope. In observing participant's time lines of having lived with chronic schizophrenia, it advances with 'surrender', 'collapse', 'reaching out', 'rising', 'preparing to spring up', and 'starting anew'. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the experience of a chronic schizophrenic patient is like that of a miner caught under a fallen mine channel, who, without external help cannot escape the depths 'Of the mine, but at the same time must have conviction and hope of rescue and avert fear to cooperate with outside help. The result indicates that family members, doctors and nurses as well as an institute's persistent and active support is most critical for the patient's adjustment to social life.

Operational Vibration Experiment and Analysis of a Small Vertical-Axis Wind Turbine Considering the Effect of a Tower Stiffness (타워강성 효과를 고려한 소형 수직축 풍력발전기 운전 진동실험 및 해석)

  • In this study, operational vibration experiment and analysis have been conducted for the 4-blade small vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT) including the effect of tower elastic behavior. Computational structural dynamics analysis method is applied to obtain Campbell diagram for the VAWT with elastic tower. An open type wind-tunnel is used to change and keep the wind velocity during the ground test. Equivalent elastic tower is used to support the VAWT so that the effect of elastic stiffness of the tower can be considered in the present vibration experiment. Various excitation conditions with wind loads are considered and the dominant operating vibration phenomena are physically investigated in detail.

Feasibility Study on the Utilization of Abandoned Underground Excavation Caverns (지하 채굴 폐공동의 활용 가능성 검토)

  • According to the industrial restructuring in the late 1980's, most domestic mines have been shutdown or suspended in operation. The closed underground excavation caverns remain in their abandoned conditions, and they will potentially cause environmental hazards. To evaluate the feasibility of the utilization of the abandoned caverns, the foreign crises were studied. As a result, we proposed several possible examples including underground storage cavern fur food products, underground compressed air energy system(CAES), and underground repository (or incineration plant) of industrial wastes. Among them, the underground waste repositories are most probable to be seen in Korea in the near future. For this, the study in rock engineering aspects should be conducted, which will include the establishment of support system and safety measure of the abandoned underground excavation caverns.

A Feasibility Study on the Han River Area as the Construction Site for the Kyung Bu Canal

  • To facilitate the carriage of goods and products, an improvement of the transportation system is greatly needed in Korea. The construction of the Kyung Bu canal that can traverse over the wide area of southern Korea os proposed to be one of the most favorable choices to resolve this need. To fulfill this plan, we investigated the possibility of connecting the Han River (in the midwest) with the Nak-tong River (in the southeast) via the Cho-ryeong tunnel (20.5 km long and 125 m high). According to topographic and geological mapping analysis, we are capable of selecting the optimal locations for the tunnels and locking systems. The water requirement for high locking systems can be satisfied by constructing additional dams above the Choong-ju area or by introducing water saving lock system. The results of our investigation support the idea such a canal system, if constructed, could lead to a revolution of the Korea's transportation system.

A Study on the Correlation of Resistivity and Rock Quality (전기비저항과 암반등급의 상관관계에 대한 고찰)

  • Electrical resistivity is one of physical property of the earth and measured by electrical resistivity survey, electrical resistivity logging and laboratory test. Recently, electrical resistivity is widely used in determination of rock quality in road and railway tunnel design. To get more reliable rock quality data from electrical resistivity, it needs a lot of test and study on correlation of resistivity and rock quality. Firstly, we did rock property test in laboratory, such as uniaxial compressive strength(UCS), p wave velocity, Young's modulus and electrical resistivity. We correlate each test results and we found out that electrical resistivity has exponentially related to UCS and P wave velocity and linearly related to Young's modulus. And we accomplished electrical resistivity survey in field site and carried out electrical resistivity logging at in-situ area. Also we peformed rock classification, such as RQD, RMR and Q-system and we correlate electrical resistivity to rock classification results. We found out that electrical resistivity logging data are highly correlate to RQD, Q and RMR. Also we found out that electrical resistivity survey data are lower than electrical resistivity logging data when there are faults or fractures. And it cause electrical resistivity survey data to lowly correlate to RQD, Q and RMR.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the problems in Umbrella Arch Method, such as the oxidation, the difficulties in installation and cutting of the steel pipe. The applicability of the high strength FRP (Fiber-Reinforced-Plastic) materials composed of glass fiber as a substitute of steel pipe was investigated in this study. The results of this study show that FRP material is better than steel pipe in work performance and the durability of material except for its price. From the numerical analysis with various types of FRP, it was evaluated that the equiangular curve type is more efficient than the flat type developed abroad, and the supporting effect of FRP-grout mixture is similar to that of steel-grout mixture in results of bending strength test.

A Study of Computation Methods for Dynamic Damping Coefficients of an Airship (비행선의 동적 감쇠계수 계산 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Dynamic stability is critically required to stabilize an airship which is statically unstable. Numerical computations were performed in order to support and confirm the foced oscillation wind tunnel tests. To analyze the low-speed flow filed around the airship, a low-Mach number preconditioned method was applied. Using two computation methods, variations of the dynamic damping coefficients were examined. Numerical results show that it is dynamically stable for three directional moments, but unstable for normal or side force. It is revealed that the damping coefficients are more sensitive to the direction of the angular rate than the angle of attack or the magnitude og angular rate.

  • Off-line 6-DOF simulation program for store separation analysis has been developed. The developed program enables to predict a trajectory of a store from the database which was constructed by wind tunnel testing or CFD analysis. The flow angle method was applied to the program for predicting aerodynamic coefficients from the database and the ejector forces and constraints were enabled to incorporate the equations of motion for computing the trajectory. Using the program, the trajectories were calculated and the results are compared with the CTS results.

  • In this paper, we describe overhead problems which result from the supporting NEMO in PMIPv6 networks, and propose a novel binding scheme for the network-based mobility management with new network-layer message which solves the problems of the additional tunnel. Our proposed binding scheme can reduce handover latency without mobility-related procedure by the hosts. A performance evaluation shows that the proposed scheme works more efficiently than the scheme which is proposed by the IETF NETLMM WG in terms of packet loss, handover latency and average packet throughput.
