In this paper, we measured and analyzed propagation characteristics in a subway tunnel that is recently increasingly becoming one of the radio communication environments. The measurements are carried out in a subway tunnel with frequency bands of 2.45㎓ and 5.8㎓. The length of tunnel we used for this study is 175m of LOS (Line-of-sight) and 270m of NLOS (Non Line-of-Sight). The subway tunnel is curved and its cross section is horseshoe type. The measurement systems we employ in this study are a narrow-band system and a wide-band system. The narrow-band system is used to get path loss measurement and the wide-band system is used to figure out delay profile measurement. In particular, the wide-band system consists of 1023 length PN sequence generator using a chip rate of 80MHz based on a sliding correlation technique. The omni-directional antennas and directional antennas are used to analyze propagation characteristics for beam type of antenna. The path loss displays only pure path loss of a tunnel environment. The delay profile indicates the mean excess delay and RMS (root mean square) delay spread.
PURPOSES : It is difficult to estimate tunnel stability because of lack of timely information during tunnel excavation. Tunnel deformability refers to the capacity of rock to strain under applied loads or unloads during tunnel excavation. This study was conducted to analyze a methods of pre-evaluation of stability during tunnel construction using the critical strain concept, which is applied to the results of tunnel settlement data and unconfined compression strength of intact rock or rock mass at the tunnel construction site. METHODS : Based on the critical strain concept, the pre-evaluation of stability of a tunnel was performed in the Daegu region, at a tunnel through andesite and granite rock. The critical strain concept is a method of predicting tunnel behavior from tunnel crown settlement data using the critical strain chart that is obtained from the relationship between strain and the unconfined compression strength of intact rock in a laboratory. RESULTS : In a pre-evaluation of stability of a tunnel, only actually measured crown settlement data is plotted on the lower position of the critical strain chart, to be compared with the total displacement of crown settlement, including precedent settlement and displacement data from before the settlement measurement. However, both cases show almost the same tunnel behavior. In an evaluation using rock mass instead of intact rock, the data for the rock mass strength is plotted on the lower portion of the critical strain chart, as a way to compare to the data for intact rock strength. CONCLUSIONS : From the results of the pre-evaluation of stability of the tunnel using the critical strain chart, we reaffirmed that it is possible to promptly evaluate the stability of a tunnel under construction. Moreover, this research shows that a safety evaluation using the actual instrumented crown settlement data with the unconfined compression strength of intact rock, rather than with the unconfined compression strength of a rock mass in the tunnel working face, is more conservative.
The Necessity of TAB for the facilities of Ventilation and Safety system in a road tunnel is studied. TAB is to test, adjust and balance a system. The study is to investigate the advantage which results from carrying out TAB, with the measurement of temperature, velocity and pressure. The method of measurement of these factors and TAB procedure are a]so explained.
It is generalized to measure the arch settlement and convergence during tunnel construction for monitoring its mechanical stability. The initial convergence rate a day is defined from the first convergence measurement and the final convergence defined as the convergence measured lastly. The initial and the final tunnel arch settlement are defined like the preceding convergence. In the study, the relations between the initial and final displacements of a shallow tunnel are analyzed. The measurements were performed in the tunnel of subway 906 construction site in Seoul. The overburden is 10-20 m and the tunnel goes through weathered soil/rock. The width and height of the tunnel are about 11.5 m, 10m, respectively. So this is a shallow tunnel in weak rock. The length of tunnel is about 1,820 m and the tunnel was constructed in 2 stages, dividing upper and lower half. The numbers of measurement locations of arch settlement and convergence are 184 and 258, respectively. As a result, the initial displacement rate and the final displacement are comparatively larger in the section of weathered soil.

An accelerometer-based system was designed and constructed for drag measurement in a shock tunnel. Drag coefficient of a conical model was measured under a Mach 6 flow condition. A simple and intuitive calibration method was presented to compensate for the friction force of the drag measurement system, and the results of the measurement were compared with computational fluid dynamics in which the simple conical model was analyzed. The influence of drag measurement interference by supports of various shapes was identified and the design was presented to minimize. The drag coefficient measurement using the modified support showed that the error of the drag coefficient by the support was decreased.
For the purpose of evaluating the safety of rock structures such as underground caverns, tunnels and slopes, rock displacement measurement is carried out to identify the behavior of rock masses. Tapes, levels, and total stations are usually applied to the displacement measurement. These tools, however, are weighed down by many disadvantages. In this study, a new displacement measurement system by precise vision metrology was proposed for the observational design and construction method of rock structures, and then applied to a tunnel under construction. Comparisons and investigations of the measurement of the tunnel have confirmed the effectiveness and applicability of the developed measurement system.

At pre-construction design stage, most of the design data are based on the site investigation results or property estimation which often does not provide satisfactory output for the tunnel analysis. Nonlinear FEM tunnel analysis was cariied out by Hoek-Brown model which is principly semi-empirical design method based on insitu rock descriptions, rock test results as well as field measurement data. The results of the analytical methods from Hoek-Brown model and Mohr-Coulomb model are compared with the sige measurement data from two-NATM tunnel construction sites. It was found that the Hoek-Brown model can be satisfactorily adopted as a feed back analysis technique in order to examin the safety of NATM tunnel at any construction stage.

Microphone array beamforming method has been recognized as an important aeroacoustic research field and become a standard technique in localizing sound sources. This method also used in flight acoustic measurement, and especially, it is very useful when measure sounds inside the wind tunnel. In measuring sound which is inside the wind tunnel by traditional beamforming method, there are some errors caused by airstream. The speed and the propagation path of the sound changes as it travel through the airstream. This makes the error which the position of sound is changed a little bit to the down stream direction. In this paper, validation test has made about the correction equation for this wind effects of previous researches. And beamforming including shear layer correction was performed about a sound source in the anechoic open-jet wind tunnel.
Estimation of inflow rates into subsection of a tunnel is establishing the proposed grouting part, measuring the degree of grouting, and settling the dispute over deplrtion of groundwater which may be resulted from tunneling. A current meter was used to calculate inflow rates of groundwater to each subsection of the tunnel. The study area is composed of section 1 and 2 of Imha-Youngchun waterway trnnel which has 32.976km length, with each section having 3,745m and 4,079m, respectively. The depth from groung surface to tunnel ranges from 122.45m to 358.3m. Total inflow rates of groundwater into each section measured three times by the current meter, together with bottle and eye measurement, were compared with groundwater inflow rates of each section measured by datalogger. The calcuated inflow rates of the sections by bottle and eye measurement were 8.8%∼54.7% of inflow rate (averaging 27,4%), whwewas those by the current meter were 76.9%∼110.6%(averaging 92.9%). Therfore, the current meter is regarded as useful method to calculate groundwater inflow rates into subsections of a tunnel.

This paper introduces an experimental device which can measure accurate aerodynamic forces without support interference in wide experimental region for wind tunnel test of micro aerial vehicles (MAVs). A stereo pattern recognition (SPR) method was introduced to a magnetic suspension and balance system (MSBS), which can eliminate support interference by levitating the experimental model, to establish wider experimental region; thereby MSBS-SPR integrated system was developed. The SPR method is non-contact, highly accurate three-dimensional position measurement method providing wide measurement range. To evaluate the system performance, a series of performance evaluations including SPR system measurement accuracy and 6 degrees of freedom (DOFs) position/attitude control of the MAV model were conducted. This newly developed system could control the MAV model rapidly and accurately within almost 60mm for translational DOFs and 40deg for rotational DOFs inside of $300{\times}300mm$ test section. In addition, a static wind tunnel test was conducted to verify the aerodynamic force measurement capability. It turned out that this system could accurately measure the aerodynamic forces in low Reynolds number, even for the weak forces which were hard to measure using typical balance system, without making any mechanical contact with the MAV model.
