Effect of after annealing on critical current of Bi-2212 HTS round wires (후열처리 조건에 따른 Bi-2212 고온 초전도선의 임계전류 특성 변화)

  • The important merit of Bi-2212/Ag wire is to apply cable as round wire state. Bi-2212 high Tc superconducting wires were fabricated in order to apply Rutherford cable near the future. Various Ag ratio from 0.22 to 0.42 of Ag tubes for PID (powder-In-Tube) process were used to investigate the workability and to prevent breakage of filaments during drawing. In order to find proper heat treatment condition, we investigated micro-structure of Bi-2212/Ag wires by using differential thermal analysis, XRD and SEM. The effect of atmosphere on the peritectic decomposition temperature of precursor was investigated. The shape of grain was observed by SEM to investigate Bi-2212 phase formation in filaments. The higher of Ag ratio of mono filament had the higher critical current density, Jc. The wire with 0.42 of Ag ratio showed 7,886 A/cm2 of Jc at 77K.

Development of a Mechanistic Fission Gas Release Model for LWR $UO_2$ Fuel Under Steady-State Conditions

  • A mechanistic model has been developed to predict the release behavior of fission gas during steady-state irradiation of LWR UO$_2$ fuel. Under the assumption that UO$_2$ grain surface is composed of fourteen identical circular faces and grain edge bubble can be represented by a triangulated tube around the circumference of three circular grain faces, it introduces the concept of continuous formation of open grain edges tunnels that is proportional to grain edge swelling. In addition, it takes into account the interaction between the gas release from matrix to grain boundary and the reintroduction of gas atoms into the matrix by the irradiation-induced re-solution of grain face bubbles. It also treats analytically the behavior of intragranular, intergranular, and grain edge bubbles under the assumption that both intragranular and intergranular bubbles are uniform in both radius and number density. Comparison of the present model with experimental data shows that the model's prediction produces reasonable agreement for fuel with centerline temperatures of 1000 to 140$0^{\circ}C$, wide scatter band for fuel with centerline temperatures lower than 100$0^{\circ}C$, and underprediction for fuel with centerline temperatures higher than 140$0^{\circ}C$.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the characterization of iron oxide nanotubes (INTs) by anodization method and applied adsorption isotherms and kinetic models for phosphate adsorption. SEM analysis was conducted to examine the INTs surface formation. Further XRD and XPS analysis were performed to observe the crystal structure of INTs before and after phosphate adsorption. AFM analysis was conducted to determine of Fe foil surface before and after anodization. Phosphate stock solution for adsorption experiment was prepared by $KH_2PO_4$. The batch experiment was conducted using 20 ml phosphate stock solution and $40cm^3$ of INTs in 50 ml conical tube. Adsorption isotherms were applied Langmuir and Freundlich models for adsorption equilibrium test of INTs. Pseudo first order and pseudo second order models were applied for interpretation of adsorption rate by reaction time. The determination coefficient ($R^2$) values of Langmuir and Freundlich models were 0.9157 and 0.8876 respectively.

  • Ever since the experimental discovery of graphene exfoiliated from the graphite flakes by Geim et at., this area has drawn a lot of attention for its possible application in IT industry. For the growth of graphene, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) has been widely used to fabricate the large area graphene. The lateral size of this graphene can be easily controlled by the size of the metal substrate though the chemical etching to remove this substrate is somewhat troublesome. Another problem which is hard to avoid is the folding at the grain boundary. We will discuss the origin of the folding first and introduce the way to avoid this folding. To solve this problem, we have used the various types of micro-thin metal foils. The precise control of hydro-carbon and the carrier gas results in the formation of the graphene on top of substrate. The thickness of graphene layers can be controlled with the control of gas flow on top of Cu substrate in contrast to the previously reported self-limiting growth $behavior^1$. Uniformity of this graphene layer has been checked by micro-raman spectroscopy and SEM. The size of grain can be enhanced by thermal treatment or use of other metal substrate. The dependence of grain size on the lattice size of the substrate will be discussed. By selecting the shape of substrate, we can grow various types of graphene. We will introduce the micron size graphene tube and its application.

Study on the Anti-angiogenic Activity of Ethanol Extract of Bojungbangam-tang (보정방암탕 에타놀층의 혈관형성 저해작용에 관한 연구)

  • The anti-angiogenic activity of ethanol extract of Bojungbangam-tang, a new herbal prescription composed of nine crude drugs, was evaluated in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). HPLC profile revealed that five major compunds such as apioliquiritin, narirutin, hesperidin, liquiritin and glycyrrhizin. Ethanol extract of Bojungbangam-tang (EBJT) did not showed any significant cytotoxicity against HUVECs up to 200 ug/ml. EBJT significantly inhibited basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF)-induced HUVECs proliferation to 69% at 200 ${\mu}g/ml$. Migration using window scraping method and tube formation in bFGF stimulated HUVECs were also significantly suppressed by EBJT in a dose-dependent manner. Taken together, these results suggest that Bojungbangam-tang can be a potent prescription for angiogenesis related disease.

  • Sieve element area and sieve pore formed generally from plasmodesmata. Sieve pore formed by the fusion of several tiny vesicles with plasmodesmata, or those with cell wall after the destruction of special region of newly formed cell wall or those finally with circular arranged form from tissure culture of Streptanthus. The tiny vesicles were produced from dispersed nucleolus or heterochromatin. The sieve area and sieve pore formed from tissue cultured cells were shown round tube form similar to those of natural plants. Sieve area and sieve pore were produced by various methods, and it suggested that the basic materials of the construction of sieve pore originated from the vesicles.

Aluminide Coatings on IN713C by Chemical Vapor Depostion (화화증착법에 의한 알루미나이드 코팅층의 형성)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the influence of the reaction temperature and $AlCl_3$ content on the aluminide coating formation on Ni-based superalloy IN713C in CVD process and to compare its throwing power with that of Pack Cementation process. Aluminide coating was formed by CVD in hot-wall stainless tube reactor from an $AlCl_3-H_2$ mixture in the temperature range $850{\sim}1050^{\circ}C$. At reaction temperature $850^{\circ}C$, the coating thickness and the content of aluminium at the surface were increased as $AlCl_3$ heating temperature was raised. At reaction temperature $1050^{\circ}C$, they were not influenced by the variation of $AlCl_3$ heating temperature. When $AlCl_3$ heating temperature was fixed $125^{\circ}C$, the phases of the coatings were varied from $Ni_2Al_3$ to Al-rich NiAl and to Ni-rich NiAl with the reaction temperature. Therefore, in this study the reaction temperature has been found to be a major factor in determining the phase formed in CVD process. The throwing power of CVD was superior to that of Pack Cementation.

Material Degradation of X20 Steel (12Cr-1MoVNi) for Boiler Tube of Power Plant (발전설비 보일러 튜브용 X20강의 가속열처리에 의한 재질 열화)

  • Material degradation of Cr steels in boiler tubes was accompanied by the microstructural changes including carbide behavior and crack formation. The microstructural change and the mechanical behavior of hardness and creep properties in accelerated heat-treatments were studied in order to identify the material degradation of the X20 Cr steel. The degradation behavior was occurred in the hardness increasing followed by decreasing due to carbide dissolution and precipitation.

Loss of βPix Causes Defects in Early Embryonic Development, and Cell Spreading and Platelet-Derived Growth Factor-Induced Chemotaxis in Mouse Embryonic Fibroblasts

  • ${\beta}Pix$ is a guanine nucleotide exchange factor for the Rho family small GTPases, Rac1 and Cdc42. It is known to regulate focal adhesion dynamics and cell migration. However, the in vivo role of ${\beta}Pix$ is currently not well understood. Here, we report the production and characterization of ${\beta}Pix$-KO mice. Loss of ${\beta}Pix$ results in embryonic lethality accompanied by abnormal developmental features, such as incomplete neural tube closure, impaired axial rotation, and failure of allantois-chorion fusion. We also generated ${\beta}Pix$-KO mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) to examine ${\beta}Pix$ function in mouse fibroblasts. ${\beta}Pix$-KO MEFs exhibit decreased Rac1 activity, and defects in cell spreading and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-induced ruffle formation and chemotaxis. The average size of focal adhesions is increased in ${\beta}Pix$-KO MEFs. Interestingly, ${\beta}Pix$-KO MEFs showed increased motility in random migration and rapid wound healing with elevated levels of MLC2 phosphorylation. Taken together, our data demonstrate that ${\beta}Pix$ plays essential roles in early embryonic development, cell spreading, and cell migration in fibroblasts.

Udenafil Induces the Hair Growth Effect of Adipose-Derived Stem Cells

  • Udenafil, which is a $PDE_5$ inhibitor, is used to treat erectile dysfunction. However, it is unclear whether udenafil induces hair growth via the stimulation of adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs). In this study, we investigated whether udenafil stimulates ASCs and whether increased growth factor secretion from ASCs to facilitate hair growth. We found that subcutaneous injection of udenafiltreated ASCs accelerated telogen-to-anagen transition in vivo. We also observed that udenafil induced proliferation, migration and tube formation of ASCs. It also increased the secretion of growth factors from ASCs, such as interleukin-4 (IL-4) and IL12B, and the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and $NF{\kappa}B$. Furthermore, concomitant upregulation of IL-4 and IL12B mRNA levels was attenuated by ERK inhibitor or $NF{\kappa}B$ knockdown. Application of IL-4 or IL12B enhanced anagen induction in mice and increased hair follicle length in organ culture. The results indicated that udenafil stimulates ASC motility and increases paracrine growth factor, including cytokine signaling. Udenafil-stimulated secretion of cytokine from ASCs may promote hair growth via the ERK and $NF{\kappa}B$ pathways. Therefore, udenafil can be used as an ASC-preconditioning agent for hair growth.
