  • An efficient method for identification of MIMO state space model has been developed by combining partial least squares (PLS) regression, balanced realization, and balanced truncation. In the developed method, a MIMO system is decomposed into multiple MISO systems each of which is represented by a high-order ARX model and the parameters of the ARX models are estimated by PLS. Then, MISO state space models for respective MISO ARX transfer function are found through realization and combined to a MIMO state space model. Finally, a minimal balanced MIMO state space model is obtained through balanced realization and truncation. The proposed method was applied to the design of model predictive control for temperature control of a high pressure $CO_2$ solubility measurement system.

  • This work presents a time-truncation scheme, based on the Lagrange interpolation polynomial, for the solution of the two-dimensional scalar wave problem by the time-domain boundary element method. The aim is to reduce the number of stored matrices, due to the convolution integral performed from the initial time to the current time, and to keep a compromise between computational economy and efficiency and the numerical accuracy. In order to verify the accuracy of the proposed formulation, three examples are presented and discussed at the end of the article.

  • This paper presents a study on the effectiveness of the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) technique for reconstruction of wind pressure field as applied to a cylindrical shell roof based on simultaneously measured wind pressure data. The influence of wind loading mode truncation on the statistics of dynamic pressures and wind load effects are investigated. The results showed that truncation of higher wind loading modes can have more noticeable influence on the maximum and minimum pressures that the standard derivation (STD) values. The truncation primarily affects the high-frequency content of the pressures. Estimation of background response using wind loading modes is more effective than the use of traditional structural modal analysis.

  • Fuzzy logic controllers are often found to behave better than PI controllers. One of the major reasons for this is that the fuzzy logic inferences used can produce nonlinear type controllers. For some applicatioins, howeveer, linear fuzzy logic controllers also perofrm better than PI controllers. In this paper, we examine linear fuzzy logic controllers to show that the truncation effects of the fuzzy logic controllers make them perform much better than the PI controllers. In terms of a performance index we used, the truncation effects reduced the index value by up to 80% for examples we studied.

  • Data hiding technology hides secret information into the carrier, so that when the carrier is transmitted over network, it will not attract any malicious attention. Using data compression, it is possible to reduce the data size into a small compressed code, which can effectively reduce the time when transmitting compressed code on the network. In this paper, the main objective is to effectively combine these two technologies. We designed a data hiding scheme based on two techniques which are turtle-shell information hiding scheme and absolute moment block truncation coding. The experimental results showed that the proposed scheme provided higher embedding capacity and better image quality than other hiding schemes which were based on absolute moment block truncation coding.

  • In this paper, I propose flexible base point used for a BTC(Block Truncation Coding). Halftoning images are used for printer by reducing the number of pixel depth. During over 20 years, many researches have been studied to apply this techniques to image compression. BTC algorithms are the compression methods using digital halftoning technique about images. In the BTC algorithm, an image block is divided into higher and lower domain compared with the mean of block. then the MAX and MIN representative values are evaluated by calculating the mean of higher and lower domain respectively. At a result, an image block(for example 88 size) is compressed into 64bits pixel representation and 16 bits of the MAX and MIN. And they also have been tried to sustain the image quality high after compression. In this paper, I found that there is some marginal possibility to enhance the image quality by adjusting the base point(generally mean of block) of existing algorithms.

  • In this paper we derive a Berry-Esseen type bound for the kernel density estimator of a random left truncated model, in which each datum (Y) is randomly left truncated and is sampled if $Y{\geq}T$, where T is the truncation random variable with an unknown distribution. This unknown distribution is estimated with the Lynden-Bell estimator. In particular the normal approximation rate, by choice of the bandwidth, is shown to be close to $n^{-1/6}$ modulo logarithmic term. We have also investigated this normal approximation rate via a simulation study.

  • This paper deals with a density estimation method in binary choice models that can be regarded as a statistical inverse problem. We use an orthogonal basis to estimate density function and consider the choice of an appropriate truncation parameter to reflect the model complexity and the prediction accuracy. We propose a data-dependent rule to choose the truncation parameter in the context of binary choice models. A numerical simulation is provided to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.

  • Simulation output is generally stochastic and autocorrelated, and includes the initial condition bias. To exclude the bias, the determination of truncation point has been one of important issues for the steady-state simulation output analysis. In this paper, two methods are presented for detection of truncation point in order to estimate efficiently the steady-state measure of simulation output. They are based on the Euclidean distance equation, and the backpropagation algorithm in Neural Networks. The experimental results obtained by M/M/1 and M/M/2 show that the proposed methods are very promising with respect to coverage and relative bias. The methods could be used for the on-line analysis of simulation outputs.

  • An adaptive block truncation coding(BTC) using human visual system(HVS) is proposed. To reduce visible blocking effect at sensitive area in HVS. a new category classification coefficient is proposed. The categroy classification coefficient was derived by combining the modified HVS and standard deviation. By computer simulations, we showed that the proposed method reduced blocking effect at low bit rate coding more than the conventional Hui's method.
