Acute cocaine intoxication in a body packer

  • A 35-year-old Perubian who suffered from grand mal seizures died in the aircraft on his way from the United States to Hongkong via Incheon international airport of Korea. While performing the autopsy, 115 packs made with double layer of transparent film and black plastic bag containing cocaine were found in the ileum and large intestine. Among of them, 3 packs were ruptured. To determine the concentration of cocaine and its metabolites, blood, urine, bile, liver, spleen, heart, kidney, brain and gastric contents were taken and toxicological analysis was performed. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) following liquid-phase extraction using chloroform:isopropanol (=9:1) and derivatization with bis(trimethylsilyl)-trifluoroacetamide (contains 1% trimethylchlorosilane) was performed. High levels of cocaine, benzoylecgonine (BE) and ecgonine methylester (EME) were found in the postmortem blood (0.96, 3.09 and $5.59{\mu}g/mL$) and urine (32.85, 145.35 and $53.17{\mu}g/mL$), respectively. Cocaine and its metabolites were also detected in all other biological specimen.

유-무기 하이브리드 코팅액 제조를 위한 지르코니아 표면의 소수화 개질 연구 (Study on the hydrophobic modification of zirconia surface for organic-inorganic hybrid coatings)

  • 백색을 띄고 물리적 화학적으로 안정한 지르코니아는 열전도도가 낮고 강도와 인성, 내식성이 우수하여 단열재, 내화물과 같은 고온 재료와 각종 산업용 구조세라믹스에 사용되고 있다. 이러한 지르코니아를 낮은 경도 및 굴절률 등과 같은 단점을 가진 고분자 코팅제에 도입하게 되면 화학적, 전기적, 광학적인 특성이 향상된다. 이와 같이 유기 소재에 무기 소재를 혼합하여 사용하는 유-무기 하이브리드 코팅을 목적으로 본 연구에서는 지르코니아 표면에 trimethylchlorosilane(TMCS)과 hexamethyldisilazane(HMDZ)을 사용하여 실릴화반응을 통한 $-CH_3$기를 도입하여 소수성을 나노지르코니아 표면에 도입하였다. 소수화된 지르코니아 표면에서의 TMCS와 HMDZ에 의해 도입된 $Si-CH_3$의 존재는 FT-IR ATR spectroscopy를 통해 확인하였고, silicon 원소의 존재를 FE-SEM/EDS와 ICP-AES를 통해 확인하였다. 또한, 개질 전후의 지르코니아를 아크릴레이트 단량체에 분산하여 침강속도를 확인하여 분산성이 향상되는 것을 확인하였다. 지르코니아 입자의 크기 및 분포는 입도 분석기를 통해 확인하였으며, BET 분석을 통해 개질 반응 전후의 비표면적은 $18m^2/g$ 정도로 큰 변화가 없었다.

Analysis of PVDF Coating Properties with Addition of Hydrophobically Modified Fumed Silica

  • In this study, hydrophobically modified fumed silica was added to the PVDF coating to improve corrosion protection performance. Two types of silane modifiers, trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS) and hexamethyldisilazane (HMDZ), were used for hydrophobic modification of the fumed silica. The composition of modified fumed silica was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The dispersion of modified fumed silica in the PVDF coating was observed by the transmission electron microscopy, and the hydrophobicity of PVDF coating was analyzed by the water contact angle. Surface properties were examined by the field emission scanning electron microscopy and scanning probe microscopy. Potentiodynamic polarization was conducted to confirm corrosion protection performance of PVDF coating in terms of hydrophobically-modified fumed silica contents. As a result, the average surface roughness and the water contact angle of the PVDF coating increased with modifier contents. The results of the potentiodynamic polarization test showed an increase of the Ecorr values with increase of the hydrophobicity of PVDF coating. Thus, it clearly indicates that the corrosion protection performance of PVDF coating improved with the addition of the hydrophobic-modified fumed silica that prevents the penetration of moisture into the PVDF coating.

상압건조 물유리 에어로젤에 대한 표면개질제의 영향 (Surface modifiers on the waterglass aerogels prepared by ambient drying process)

  • Silica aerogel with ultra low density and high porosity has been focused on versatile application due to its fascinating properties. Ambient drying process of waterglass, in this study was researched to fabricate a crack-free monolith body in the point view of cost effective way. Wet gel was obtained by removing of $Na^{+}$ ions in waterglass, which contains 8 wt% of $SiO_{2}$. Xylene, which has a low vapor pressure, was used as a solution substitutor to prevent the formation a cracks during drying. Various surface modifiers like as hexamethyldisilazane (HMDSZ), trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS), methyltriethoxylsilane (MTES), methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) and phenyltriethoxysilane (PTES) were used in order to improve hydrophobicity of the waterglass Silica aerogel. Some physical properties of the surface modified aerogels were investigated by FT-IR, TGA, BET and SEM. Hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity of Silica aerogel is attributed to the Si-OH bond and the non-polar C-H bond groups on the surface of aerogel. Crack-free waterglass aerogel with >90 % of porosity, 17 nm of pore size and <0.15 $g/cm^{3}$ of density was prepared. HMDSZ and TMCS are effective as a surface modifier

  • Pyridine과 $^tBuLi$의 반응생성물과 $Me_3SiCl$의 반응에 의해 반응성이 매우 큰 반응 중간체 1,2-dihydropyridine 유도체 (2)를 낮은 온도의 비극성 용매 속에서 합성하여 분리하였으며 SPINX3을 이용한 $^1H-NMR$ 미세 구조 분석에 의해 반응생성물 (2)의 구조를 확인하였다. $^1H-NMR$ spectrum에서 화학적 이동상수와 NH, 그리고 4개의 aromatic CH proton의 coupling에 관한 정보를 분석하였으며, 이 화합물의 형성반응에 의한 반응형성물 3과 4의 합성에 의해 확인하였다.

Functionalized magnetite / silica nanocomposite for oily wastewater treatment

  • A new magnetite-silica core/shell nanocomposite ($Fe_3O4@nSiO_2@mSiO_2$) was synthesized and functionalized with trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS). The prepared nanocomposite was used for the removal of diesel oil from aqueous media. The characterization of magnetite-silica nanocomposite was studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), surface area measurement, and vibrating sample magnetization (VSM). Results have shown that the desired structure was obtained and surface modification was successfully carried out. FTIR analysis has confirmed the presence of TMCS on the surface of magnetite silica nanocomposites. The low- angle XRD pattern of nanocomposites indicated the mesoscopic structure of silica shell. Furthermore, TEM results have shown the core/shell structure with porous silica shell. Adsorption kinetic studies indicated that the nanocomposite was able to remove 80% of the oil contaminant during 2 h and fit well with the pseudo-second order model. Equilibrium studies at room temperature showed that the experimental data fitted well with Freundlich isotherm. The magnetic property of nanocomposite facilitated the separation of solid phase from aqueous solution.

  • Polysulfone을 술폰화하여 물-부탄올 용액의 분리를 위한 투과증발용 비대칭막을 제조하였다. 술론화제로는 chlorosulfoneic acid-trimethyulchlorosilane을 반응시킨 후 이용하였다. FT-IR과 $^1H$-NMR을 이용하여 치환여부를 살펴보았고 술폰화정도는 역적정법과 $^1H$H-NMR을 이용하여 구하였다. DSC와 TGA를 이용하여 열적특성변화를 알아보았다. 비대칭막을 제조하기 위하여 N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone(NMP)rhkdiethyleneglycol dimethyl ether (DGDE)의 혼합용매를 사용하였다. SEM을 이용하여 단면과 skinlayer 의 구조변화를 살펴보았다. 한 연구에서 제조한 비대칭막은 dense film에 비하여 물에 대한 선택도는 거의 변화가 없고 투과유량은 약 80배 정도 증가하였다.

  • Ambient drying sol-gel processing was used for monolithic silica ambigels in the temperature range of $130-250^{\circ}C$. A new method of mesopore ambigels, which mean the aerogels prepared by ambient pressure drying process synthesis, is suggested at first. This method includes two important approaches. The first point is that $SiO_{2}$ surface modification of wet gel was performed by trimethylchlorosilane in n-butanol solution. This procedure is provided the silica gel mesopore structure formation. The second point is a creation of the ternary azeotropic mixture water/n-butanol/octane as porous liquid, which is effectively provided removing of water such a low temperature by 2 step drying condition under ambient pressure. The silica aerogels, which were prepared by ambient pressure drying from azeotropic mixture of water/n-butanol/octane, are transparent, crack-free and mesoporous (pore size ${\sim}$ 5.6 nm) with surface area of ${\sim}$ $923{\;}m^2/g$, bulk density of $0.4{\;}g/cm^3$ and porosity of 85 %.

  • 직접메탄올연료전지에 사용가능한 이온교환막을 개발하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 폴리설폰을 설폰화시켜 양이온교환막을 제조하였고 그에 대한 특성을 $150^{\circ}C$에서 열처리 전과 후를 통해 메탄을 투과도, 이온전도도, 이온교환용량 그리고 함수율 등에 대하여 평가하였다. 폴리설폰 고분자의 단량체와 설폰화제의 몰비가 1.4일 때 메탄올 투과도는 $2.87{\times}10^{-7} \;cm^2/s$(열처리 안함), $1.52{\times}10^{-7}\; cm^2/s$(열처리함)과 이온전도도는 1.10{\times}10^{-2}\; S/cm$ (열처리안함), 0.87{\times}10^{-2}\; S/cm$(열처리함)을 각각 보여 주었다. 그 이후의 몰비에서는 거의 증가하지 않았으며, 이러한 경향은 함수율과 이온교환용량에서도 같은 경향을 보여주었다.

  • A new chromatographic stationary phase has been prepared by cross polymerization between allylsilica and perallyloxycucurbit[6]uril and characterized by elemental analysis and FT-IR spectroscopy. The double endcapping has been proven to improve the separation efficiency of the cucurbituril-based stationary phase material. The first end-capping was carried out when allylsilica was made. The second end-capping was done as the final step of the whole process, and the use of a mixture of hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) and trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS) as an end-capping reagent was found better than the use of only HMDS or TMCS. Our stationary phase has shown generally good results in separation of nonpolar and polar analytes. This phase showed even better separation performance than the commercial C18 phase for the case where hostguest chemistry was properly incorporated in solute retention.
