Pure and V-doped NiO porous structures were prepared by the evaporation-induced surfactant assembly and subsequent pyrolysis of assembled structures, and their gas sensing characteristics were investigated. Pure NiO porous structures showed negligible gas responses (S=$R_g/R_a$, $R_g$: sensor resistance in analytic gas; $R_a$: sensor resistance in air) to 5 ppm trimethylamine (S=1.17) as well as other interfering gases such as ethanol, p-xylene, toluene, benzene and formaldehyde (S=1.02-1.13). In contrast, the V-doped NiO porous structures exhibited a high response and selectivity to 5 ppm trimethylamine (S=14.5) with low cross-responses to other interfering gases (S=4.0-8.7) at $350^{\circ}C$. The high gas response of V-doped NiO porous structures to trimethylamine was explained by electronic sensitization, that is, the increase in the chemoresistive variation due to the decrease in the hole concentration. The enhanced selectivity to trimethylamine was discussed in relation to the interaction between basic trimethylamine gas and acidic V catalysts.

Pure and Mo-doped ZnO hollow nanofibers were prepared by single capillary electrospinning and their gas sensing characteristics toward 5 ppm ethanol, trimethylamine (TMA), CO and $H_2$ were investigated. The gas responses and responding kinetics were dependent upon sensing temperature and Mo doping. Mo-doped ZnO hollow nanofibers showed high response to 5 ppm TMA ($R_a/R_g=111.7$, $R_a$: resistance in air, $R_g$: resistance in gas) at $400^{\circ}C$, while the responses of pure ZnO hollow nanofibers was low ($R_a/R_g=47.1$). In addition, the doping of Mo enhanced selectivity toward TMA. The enhancement of gas response and selectivity to TMA by Mo doping to ZnO nanofibers was discussed in relation to the interaction between basic analyte gas and acidic additive materials.
This study investigates the use of $TiO_{2},\;Pd,\;Pt$, and In which greatly improves a sensitivity to trimethylamine gas. The metal-$SnO_{2}$ thick films were prepared by screen-printing method onto $Al_{2}O_{3}$ substrates with platinum electrode. The sensing characteristics were investigated by measuring the electrical resistance of each sensor in a test box as a function of detecting gas concentration. This was then used to detect trimethylamine, dimethylamine, and ammonia vapours within the concentration range of 100-1000ppm. The gas sensing properties of metal-$SnO_{2}$ mixed thick films depended on the content and variety of metal. It was found that sensitivity and selectivity of the films dopped with 1 wt% Pd and 10 wt% $TiO_{2}$ for trimethylamin gas showed the best result at $250^{\circ}C$.
Pure and 0.5, 1, 2, 5, and 10 at% of Mo-doped $Co_3O_4$ yolk-shell spheres were synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis of droplets containing Co nitrate, ammonium molybdate, and sucrose and their gas sensing characteristics to 5 ppm trimethylamine (TMA), ethanol, p-xylene, toluene, ammonia, carbon monoxide, and benzene were measured at $225-325^{\circ}C$. The sensor using pure $Co_3O_4$ yolk-shell spheres showed the highest response to p-xylene and very low response to TMA at $250^{\circ}C$, while the doping of Mo into $Co_3O_4$ tended to increase the overall responses of gas sensors. In particular, the sensor using 5 at% Mo-doped $Co_3O_4$ yolk-shell spheres exhibited the high response to TMA with low cross-responses to other interfering gases. The high response and selectivity of Mo-doped $Co_3O_4$ yolk-shell spheres to TMA are attributed to the electronic sensitization by higher valent Mo doping and acid-base interaction between TMA and Mo components.

Highly uniform and well-dispersed Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-7 (ZIF-7) particles were prepared by the precipitation of $Zn^{2+}$ using benzimidazole, which were converted into ZnO nanoparticles by heat treatment at $500^{\circ}C$ for 24 h. The ZIF-7 derived ZnO nanoparticles showed abundant mesopores, high surface area, and good dispersion. The gas sensing characteristics toward 5 ppm acetone, ethanol, trimethylamine, ammonia, p-xylene, toluene, benzene, and carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide were investigated at $350-450^{\circ}C$. ZIF-7 derived ZnO nanoparticles exhibited high response to 5 ppm acetone ($R_a/R_g=57.6$; $R_a$: resistance under exposure to the air, Rg: resistance under exposure to the gas) at $450^{\circ}C$ and negligible cross-responses to other interference gases (trimethylamine, ammonia, p-xylene, toluene, benzene, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide) and relatively low responses to ethanol. ZIF derived synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles can be used to design high performance acetone sensors.
The Sb-doped $SnO_2$ nanowire network sensors were prepared by thermal evaporation of the mixtures between tin and antimony powders. Pure $SnO_2$ nanowire networks showed high sensor resistance in air ($99M{\Omega}$), similar gas responses to 4 diffferent gases (5 ppm $C_2H_5OH$, CO, $H_2$, and trimethylamine), and very sluggish recovery speed (90% recovery time > 800 s). In contrast, 2 wt% Sb-doped $SnO_2$ showed the selective detection toward $C_2H_5OH$ and trimethylamine, relatively low resistance ($176k{\Omega}$) for facile measurement, and ultrafast recovery speed (90% recovery times: 6 - 18 s). The change of gas sensing charactersitics by Sb doping was discussed in relation to gas sensing mechanism.
We developed a method to rapidly evaluate the freshness of fish using a sensor gas chromatography (SGC) system. Mackerel Scomber japonicus was stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for 12 days to create an environment similar to the natural decomposition process. Trimethylamine (TMA) content in mackerel muscle was measured at 3-day intervals using a spectrophotometer. The gas-phase concentration of TMA in whole mackerel was also determined using an SGC system. The muscle TMA content increased over time during storage, as did the gas-phase concentration of TMA. Therefore, this study demonstrated that an SGC system can be used to rapidly measure the gas-phase concentration of TMA in fish during processing.

$Zn_{1-x}Co_x$ Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework (ZIF) (x = 0~0.05) were prepared by the co-precipitation of $Zn^{2+}$ and $Co^{2+}$ using 2-methylimidazole, which were converted into pure and Co-doped ZnO nanoparticles by heat treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. Homogeneous Zn/Co ZIFs were achieved at x < 0.05 owing to the strong coordination of the imidazole linker to $Zn^{2+}$ and $Co^{2+}$, facilitating atomic-scale doping of Co into ZnO via annealing. By contrast, heterogeneous Zn/Co ZIFs were formed at $x{\geq}0.05$, resulting in the formation of $Co_3O_4$ second phase. To investigate the potential as high-performance gas sensors, the gas sensing characteristics of pure and Co-doped ZnO nanoparticles were evaluated. The sensor using 3 at% Co-doped ZnO exhibited an unprecedentedly high response and selectivity to trimethylamine, whereas pure ZnO nanoparticles did not. The facile, bimetallic ZIF derived synthesis of doped-metal oxide nanoparticles can be used to design high-performance gas sensors.

The trimethylamine-sensing characteristics of ZnO based thin film semiconductors and the sensitivity enhancement by squttering conditions have been investigated to develop a new type sensor for detecting fish freshness. The sensor fabricated with a 300nm of ZnO thin film with 4 wt% Al sub(2) O sub(3) and 1 wt% TiO sub(2) exhibited the highest sensitivity of 155 at 30$0^{\circ}C$ of working temperature and to the 240 ppm TMA gas. Deposition of ZnO thin film using a RF magnetron sputter was carried out at a pressure of 10 super(-2) Torr in pure oxygen gas with an RF power of 100W. The sensor exhibited a large response to the actual gases produced by a mackerel at an early stage of decomposition.
