This study was conducted investigate the effect of Gibberellin and Urea on the growth of mulberry tree with the compound treatment, and the characteristic of silkworm when the mulberry leaves simply treated with GB and the compound treatment with GB and Urea were supplied. The results are as follows. 1. Mulberry tree A. The leaf weight per mulberry tree with the compound treatment of GB+ Urea was heavier in spring silkworm and the leaf yield was increased by 7% compared with the non-treatment plot. B. The growth of wattle, leaf length and leaf width was more accelerated in the compound treatment plot of GB+Urea, the single treatment plot of GB and Urea than th!: non-treatment plot in autumn silkworm, and there was observed an incredse yielding effect of 16% in GB+Urea plot, in 16% GB plot and 18% in Urea plot respectively as compared with th: non-treatment plot, hut yield per l000m unit of wattle length was the least in GB plot. C. In the composition of mulberry leaves of treatment, water and crude protein was increased in the compound treatment plot of GB + Urea and the single treatment plot of GB and Urea than the non-treatment plot, but dry matter and carbohydrate were decredsed. 2. Characteristics of Larva in spring silkworm A. The mortality ratio of 4 and 5 instar plot was equally high in the compound treatment plot of GB+ Urea and the pupation ratio of 4 instar plot was lower than other treatment plot. B. Although there was no significant difference observed in the cocoon weight of 10.000 1st-day worms in both 4 and 5 instar plots between each treatment plot, the single treatment plot of GB showed somewhat great than other treatment plots. C. There was no significant difference observed in the cocoon layer ratio between each treatment plot, but 4 instar plots was slightly higher than 5 instar plots. 3. Characteristics of Larva in Autumn silkworm A. The mortality ratio of the compound treatment plot of GB+ Urea and GB was higher than that of the nontreatment and single treatment plot of Urea. B. The pupation ratio of the single treatment plot of Urea was higher than that of the compound treatment plot of GB + Urea, and there was no significant difference observed between other treatment plot. C. The cocoon weight of 10.000 1st-day th instar worms was heavier in the single treatment plot of Urea than nontreatment plot, GB+Urea plot and GB plot. D. The cocoon layer ratio was no significant difference observed between each-treatment.
This study was carried out in order to investigate sterilization effect and to extend storage periods of the Rubus coreanus by treating with tap water (TW), electrolyzed water (EW) and aqueous chlorine dioxide ($ClO_2$). After each treatment plot was soaked with 10, 50, 100, 200 ppm in each sterilizing solution within 30 sec, each treatment was compared during the storage time at room temperature and refrigerator temperature. As results of total plate count according to temperatures and periods, the microbial sterilizing power of each treatment plot was bigger at EW and $ClO_2$ treatment plots than the TW treatment plot; however, it sharply increased on the high concentration $ClO_2$ treatment plot. Futhermore, the cold storage treatment plot had more outstanding microbial sterilizing power than the room temperature treatment plot. As a result of observing the surface of the Rubus coreanus using scanning electron microscope (SEM), no microbe was seen in EW and $ClO_2$ treatment plot. The results of measuring enzyme activity showed a more significant decrease in EW and $ClO_2$ solutions treatment plot than TW treatment plot but gradually increased with time. The contents of total polyphenol revealed similar values on each treatment. The EW and $ClO_2$ treatment of the Rubus coreanus could be considered as good methods for inhibiting microbial growth in fresh vegetables and fruit, thereby contributing to quality maintenance.

This experiment was carried out to find out the mitigation of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emission and changes of soil carbon contents in the cropland. In order to minimize the soil disturbance, this study was conducted without crop cultivation at the pots treated with different biomass. Different biomass was buried in the soil for 12 months. Decomposition rates of expander rice hull, pig manure compost and carbonized rice hull were 18%, 11~11.5% and 0.5~1.2%, respectively. It was appeared that carbonized rice hull was slightly decomposed. No difference was shown between chemical fertilizer treatment plot and non-application plot. It was appeared that soil carbon content in the non chemical fertilizer application plot was high when compared to its chemical fertilizer. Its content at soil depth of 20 cm more decreased than the upper layer of soil. Accumulative emission of $CO_2$ with different treatments of biomass was highest of 829.0~876.6 g $CO_2m^{-2}$ in the application plot of PMC (Pig Manure Compost) regardless of chemical fertilizer treatment during 16 months of experiment. However, the emission for expander rice hull treatment plot was lowest of 672.3~808.1 g $CO_2m^{-2}$. For application plot of the carbonized rice hull, it was shown that non chemical fertilizer plot, 304.1 mg $N_2Om^{-2}$, was higher than the chemical fertilizer treatment, 271.6 mg $N_2Om^{-2}$. Greenhouse gas emissions in the PMC treatment were highest of 0.94 ton $CO_2eqha^{-1}yr^{-1}$. However, it was estimated to be the lowest in the expander rice hull treatment.

The purpose of this study was to investigate tile effects of pending depth treatment on water balance in paddy fields. Field experiment was performed in an experimental farm in Taegu, southern part of Korea during the rice growing season In 2001, 2002 and 2003. Experimental plots were three 8m ${\times}$ 80m rectangular plots. Three pending depth treatments, very shallow, shallow, and deep were used. Daily values of water balance components were measured in the field. The irrigation amounts measured at the experimental plots showed that the very shallow and the shallow ponded plots required smaller amount than the deep ponded plot. The shallow ponded plot saved irrigation water about 17.7% compared with the traditional deep ponded plot in 2001 The very shallow ponded plot saved irrigation water about 25.7% compared with the traditional deep ponded Plot in 2002, The shallow ponded plot saved irrigation water about 18% compared with the deep ponded plot in 2003.
The present study aimed to investigate the effects of drought stress on the accumulation of glucosinolates (GSLs) in the leaves of Kale cultivated in autumn and spring. HPLC analysis guided to identify seven GSLs including progoitrin, glucoraphanin, sinigrin, gluconapin, glucobrassicin, 4-methoxyglucobrassicin and neoglucobrasscin. Quantification of GSLs revealed that the contents of sigirin was the highest (45%) followed by the level of progoitrin (24%) in terms of total GSLs. The ranges of total GSL contents was 1.16 (84)-15.88 (89 DAS, ${\mu}mol/g$ dry wt. (DW)) in treatment plot and 1.23 (84)-7.05 (74 DAS, ${\mu}mol/g$ dry wt.) in control plot showed the enhancement in the contents of GSLs in treatment than in the control plot. The present results evidenced that the variation of total GSL contents were depending on the harvest period. In 105 DAS, comparatively no differences in the GSL contents on each sample in autumn season, whereas in spring season, although there was decrease in the GSLs tendency from 74 DAS to 84 DAS in both control and treatment plot, the GSL contents of treatment plot was dramatically increased in 89 DAS. In treatment plot, the GSL contents on 89 DAS (1.16) was 15 fold higher to 84 DAS ($15.88{\mu}mol/g$ DW). The variation in the contents of GSL in spring and autumn did not documented significant differences because of their differences in the growth time and cultivation conditions. In conclusion, the GSL contents in kale was likely to be affected by drought stress treatment. Scrutiny and further research for exact relation between drought stress and GSL contents in kale should be needed.
Effects of addition of soil ameliorants on the growth and nutrient absorption of Zea mays, Miscanthus sinensis and Phytolacca americana were investigated. Acid soil from Yeocheon Industrial Complex were used for the control plot (AS). We made two treatment plots, acid soil + lime (AS + L) and acid soil + dolomite (AS+D). Ration of acid soil : soil ameliorants in freatment plot was 50 : 1(V:V). Acid soil and soil ameliorants were mixed thoroughly before use. Shoot length of corn in AS+L and AS+D was considerably increased by 141% and 137%, respectively, compared with that in AS. Pokeweed in AS+L and AS+D also increased by 183% and 152%, respectively, compared with that in AS. However, growth of Miscanthus sinensis showed slight difference between the control and the treatment plots. Biomass of corn and porkweed in the treatment plots were also greater than those in the control plots. During the growth experiment with corn, concentrations of Ca and Mg in soil were increased and A1 decreased with increased soil pH in the treatment plots. Amount of aluminum absorbed by corn in the control plot was greater than that in the treatment plots. In case of Miscanthus sinensis, however, aluminum absorption in the control plot was lower than those in the treatment plots.
From the experiments on the effect of chitosan and wood vinegar, which are environment-friendly materials, on the growth of eggplant and leaf lettuce, the following results were obtained. 1. The effect of chitosan and wood vinegar treatment on the growth of eggplant 1) There was no difference in soil component elements before and after treatment with chitosan and wood vinegar. The total number of microorganisms tended to increase after treatment with chitosan and wood vinegar, while the number of bacteria increased among microorganisms. However, there was no consistent tendency in the number of Acinomycetes, fungi, and trichodema between treatments. 2) The growth and the yield of eggplant increased compared with the control plot in both the chitosan-treated plot and the wood vinegar-treated plot. However, there was no significant difference between the treatments. The yield of eggplant per 10a increased in chitosan- and wood vinegar-treated plots compared with the controlled plot. There was no significant difference in treatments, however, the plot treated with 800 times-diluted solution showed a higher growth. 2. The effect of chitosan and wood vinegar treatment on the growth of leaf lettuce 1) There was no difference in soil component elements before and after treatment with chitosan and wood vinegar. The number of bacteria increased among microorganisms. However, there was no consistent tendency in the number of Acinomycetes, fungi, and trichodema between treatments. 2) The growth of leaf lettuce in both chitosan-treated plot and wood vinegar-treated plot increased compared with the control plot, however, there was no significant difference between the treatments. On the whole, the plot treated with greater concentration showed a higher growth.
To effectively treat the domestic sewage that was produced on a small-scale in farming and fishing village in order to encourage an ecologically friendly environment, a small-scale sewage treatment apparatus using natural purification methods that consisted of an aerobic and an anaerobic plots were constructed. The efficiency of sewage treatment according to the sewage loading was investigated to obtain the optimum sewage loading in small-scale sewage treatment apparatus. Removal rate of pollutants according to the sewage loading were in the order of $150\;Lm^{-2}day^{-1}{\fallingdotseq}300\;Lm^{-2}day^{-1}>600\;Lm^{-2}day^{-1}$. Therefore, the optimum sewage loading was 300 L m-2 day-1. Under the optimum sewage loading, removal rate of BOD, $COD_{Mn}$, turbidity, T-N and T-P were 99, 94, 99, 49 and 89%, respectively. However, to satisfy the water quality standard in effluent in small-sclae sewage treatment apparatus for domestic sewage treatment, the low removal efficiency of T-N and T-P must be improved. So to improve the removal rate of T-N and T-P, the efficiency of sewage treatment according to the improved sewage treatment process such as, re-treatment at aerobic plot, anaerobic condition of aerobic plot, changing the filter media sizes and the depths in anaerobic plot, and also addition of oyster shells to filter media at anaerobic plot were investigated. In case of 150 cm depth in anaerobic plot with filter medium A (effectivity particle size 1.50 mm) and addition of oyster shells to filter media at anaerobic plot, removal rate of T-N and T-P in both plots were increased by 10 and 3%, and 14 and 7% in comparison with 100 cm depth in anaerobic plot with filter medium B(effectivity particle size 0.95 mm), respectively. The optimum improved sewage treatment process in small-scale sewage treatment apparatus were 150 cm depth in anaerobic plot with filter medium A and addition of oyster shells to filter media at anaerobic plot.

This research was conducted to compare the effect of soil amendment and loess on physial and chemical properties of dredged soil and primary height growth of Ulmus davidiana var. japonica. Three types of research plots: control plot (Dredged soil only), DC treatment plot (Dredged soil + soil amendment) and DCL treatment plot (Dredged soil + soil amendment + Loess) were set at Okgu research site in Saemanguem. 32 trees of U. davidiana var. japonica were planted in each plots after 14 months from the construction. Soil texture, pH, electrical conductivity (EC), organic matter (OM), total nitrogen (TN), available P, exchangeable cation ($K^+$, $Na^+$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$) and sodium chloride were measured after 3 years from the construction. Also, survival rate and height of U. davidiana var. japonica were measured 22 months after planting, and the correlation between height of trees and the physico-chemical properties of soil were analyzed. Even though pH in both DC and DCL treatment plots are lower than control plot, they are still alkaline (> pH 8). OM, TN and available P in both DC and DCL treatment were higher than the control. Particularly, the content of available P in both DC and DCL treatment plots are 1.4~5.1 times and 2.0~3.1 times higher than the control respectively. The concentration of exchangeable Mg in DCL treatment plot was 1.1~5.5 times higher than the control (p < .05). The survival rate of the species was the highest in DCL treatment plot (98%) followed by DC treatment plot and the control. The average height of the trees in both DC and DCL treatment plots is 1.1m while the control is 0.8m. OM, TN, available P, K+ were significantly related to the height of U. davidiana var. japonica(p < .01). The results indicate that soil amendment affects on soil physial and chemical properties of dredged soil and height growth of U. davidiana var. japonica.
