In this study, we investigate the effect of nanoparticles on the economic aspects of railway logistics transport using a mathematical model.   • The conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy at nanoscale using piezoelectric nanowire arrays has been in detail shown by deflection of nanowires. Recently it has performed an analytical model, both at classical and at quantum level, for describing the most important quantities concerning transport phenomena; the model predicts interesting peculiarities, as high initial charge diffusion in nanodevices constituting by nanowires and permits also in particular to deduce interesting informations about the devices sensitivity, focusing on the correlation between sensitivity and high initial diffusivity of these materials at nanometric level.

Volume Transport on the Texas-Louisiana Continental Shelf

  • Seasonal volume transport on the Texas-Louisiana continental shelf is investigated in terms of objectively fitted transport streamfunction fields based on the current meter data of the Texas­Louisiana Shelf Circulation and Transport Processes Study. Adopted here for the objective mapping is a method employing a two-dimensional truncated Fourier representation of the streamfunction over a domain, with the amplitudes determined by least square fit of the observation. The fitting was done with depth-averaged flow rather than depth-integrated flow to reduce the root-mean-square error. The fitting process filters out $11\%$ of the kinetic energy in the monthly mean transport fields. The shelf-wide pattern of streamfunction fields is similar to that of near-surface velocity fields over the region. The nearshore transport, about 0.1 to 0.3 Sv $(1 Sv= 10^6\;m^3/sec)$, is well correlated with the seasonal signal of along-shelf wind stress. The spring transport is weak compared to other seasons in the inner shelf region. The transport along the shelf break is large and variable. In the southwestern shelf break, transport amounts up to 4.7 Sv, which is associated with the activities of the encroaching of energetic anticyclonic eddies originated in Loop Current of the eastern Gulf of Mexico. The first empirical orthogonal function (EOF) of streamfunction variability contains $67.3\%$ of the variance and shows a simple, shelf-wide, along-shelf pattern of transport. The amplitude evolution of the first EOF is highly correlated (correlation coefficient: 0.88) with the evolution of the along-shelf wind stress. This provides strong evidence that the large portion of seasonal variation of the shelf transport is wind-forced. The second EOF contains $23.7\%$ of the variance and shows eddy activities at the southwestern shelf break. The correlation coefficient between the amplitudes of the second EOF and wind stress is 0.42. We assume that this mode is coupled a periodic inner shelf process with a non-periodic eddy process on the shelf break. The third EOF (accounting for $7.2\% of the variance) shows several cell structures near the shelf break associated with the variability of the Loop Current Eddies. The amplitude time series of the third EOF show little correlation with the along-shelf wind.

Separation of Cd(II) from Aqueous Solutions by A New Consecutive Process Consisting of Supported Liquid Membrane and Electrodialysis

  • Supported liquid membrane process usually is used for recovering or enrichment of valuable metals in the industrial wastewater. But, even if the metals in the wastewater was separated with high chemical selectivity, it cannot be enough concentrated since separation performance of supported liquid membrane (SLM) process is limited by concentration gradient between feed solution and stripping solution. If metal concentration in the stripping solution to be enough low, transport of metal through membrane can be accomplishment constantly. Therefore, Electrodialysis (ED) has been placed after SLM process and the stripping solution of SLM was used as the feed solution for the ED process. Transport of ions in the solutions is successfully performed by ED process. Thus, the metal concentration in the stripping solution does not rise as to stop ion transport. Besides, valuable metals easily are concentrated by ED process for re-use. In this study, effects of operation parameters like initial Cd(II) concentration, HCl concentration in the feed solution of SLM and applied voltage are investigated on separation efficiency, flux and permeability of the both processes. As the feed solution concentration increased, all performance values has increased. When initial concentration of 100 mg/L is used, separation performances (SP) are 55% and 70%, for SLM and consecutive process, respectively. The best HCl concentration in the feed solution of SLM has determined as 2 M, in this conditions SP are 64% and 72%, for SLM and consecutive process, respectively. With increased of applied voltage on ED process, SP of the consecutive process has been raised from 72% to 83%. According to the obtained experimental data, consecutive process has better separation performance than SLM. When the separation performances of both processes were compared for the same operating conditions, it was determined higher the separation efficiency, permeability and flux values of the consecutive process, 8%, 9% and %10.6, respectively. Consequently, the use of the consecutive process increases the performance efficiency of both processes. The consecutive process studied has quite a good chemical separation efficiency, and enrichment capability. Moreover, this process requires few water and energy.

  • 은염이 함유된 고분자 전해질을 이용한 올리핀 촉진수송 분리막은 고체상에서 높은 올레핀/파라핀 분리 성능을 나타내었다 본 연구에서는, 프로필렌/프로판 분리 선택도와 투과도의 성능을 향상시키기 위해 아미노산의 일종인 valine을 고분자 전해질막에 첨가하였다. FT-lR 분광학을 통해 valine의 양이온과 은염의 음이온이 상호작용을 하고, 그 결과 valine은 은이온의 활성도를 증가시킴을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 valine을 포함하고 있는 촉진수송 분리막은 valine이 없을 때보다 더 높은 선택도와 투과도를 나타내었다.

  • 습지에서 중금속이나 방사성 물질의 성상과 이동은 전자수용체와 유기탄소를 이용하는 미생물의 대사작용의 결과로 나타나는 지질화학적 작용과 밀접한 관계를 가지고 있으며, 이러한 지질화학적반응의 공간적인 분포는 주변 환경의 특성에 의해 영향을 받게 된다. 습지에서의 이러한 현상을 수학적으로 모의하기 위하여 식물의 존재 여부에 따른 퇴적물 내에서의 중금속 거동에 대한 일반적인 수학적 모형을 개발하였다. 본 모형에서 고려되는 주요 기작은 습지에서의 침적과 식물 뿌리의 존재가 퇴적물 내 지질화학적 반응과 이송 기작 및 혼합과정에 미치는 영향 등이며, 정상상태에 관한 수식들이 퇴적물 환경의 모의에 적용되었다. 수치모의 실험의 결과에 따르면, 열거된 물리학적기작들이 미생물의 유기 탄소원 분해작용의 결과로 나타나는 일련의 전자수용체, 그에 따른 반응물, 모형에서 고려된 중금속 물질인 비소 등 퇴적물내 화학 물질들의 수직적 분포에 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 본 모형에서는 특정한 생물학적 변환 과정이 열역학적으로 호의적인 영역에서만 발생하는 것으로 고려되었음에도, 비생물학적 작용과 혼합 기작에 의하여 각각의전자수용체 분포의 수직적 중첩이나 역전 등 현장에서 실제 관측되는 현상 들을 잘 모사할 수 있었다.

  • Hypoxia has persisted during summer in the bottom water of the lower portion of the Rappahannock Estuary, a western shore tributary of Chesapeake Bay. A laterally integrated two-dimensional, real-time model, consisting of linked hydrodynamic and water quality models, was developed to study the contributing processes for hypoxia. The hydrodynamic model gives the information of physical transport processes, both advective and diffusive, to the water quality model, which simulates the spatial and temporal distributions of eight water quality state variables.   • Mass transport behavior of C60 films on electrodes with different thicknesses has been studied by an Electrochemical Quartz Crystal Microbalance (EQCM) during electrochemical reduction-oxidation processes in the presence of water. C60 films were found to be reduced in the presence of water and they remains quite stable. In thin films, the mass on electrode decreased after a complete cycle while X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) study does not support the existence or formation of C60-epoxides during electrochemical reduction processes in the presence of water or oxygen.

  • Calmodulin: very large conformation change of helix uncoiling, hinge-bending and domain rotation. Calmodulin (CaM) is the principal Ca$\^$2+/ -dependent regulator of a variety of important eukaryotic cellular processes. In many of these processes, calmodulin activates a plethora of target enzymes, and the calmodulin-binding domains in several targets have been shown to residue in a region of about 18-residue peptide segment.(omitted)
