  • The electron transport coefficients in $SP_{6}$ gas is calculated and analysed for range of E/N values from 150∼800(Td) by a Monte Carlo simulation, using a set of electron collision cross sections determined by the authors. The result of the Monte Carlo simulation such as electron drift velocity, ionization and electron attachment coefficients, longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficients in neatly agreement with the respective experimental and theoretical for a range of E/N. The validity of the results obtained has been confirmed by a Monte Carlo simulation carried out parallel to the analysis.

  • The applications of CFD in the design process of a transonic civil transport at Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) are outlined. Three Navier-Stokes solvers, developed at KARI with different grid approaches, are used to predict the aerodynamic coefficients and solve the flowfield of various configurations. Multi-block, Chimera, and unstructured grids are the approaches implemented. The accuracy of the codes is verified for the transonic flow about RAE wing/fuselage configuration. The multi-block code is used to provide the detailed data on the flowfield around a wall interference model with different test section sizes which will be used in establishing the wall interference correction method. The subsonic and transonic flowfields about K100-04A, one of the configurations of a 100-seater transport developed by KARI and Korea Commercial Aircraft Development Consortium (KCDC), are computed to predict the aerodynamic coefficients. The results for the subsonic flow are compared with those of wind tunnel test, and the agreement is found to be excellent. The interference effect of nacelle installation on the wing of K100-04A is also investigated using the unstructured grid method, and about 10% reduction in wing lift is observed. The accuracy of the three developed codes is verified, and they are used as an efficient tool in the design process of a transonic transport.

  • This paper describes the information for the difference between two-term and multi-term approximation of the Boltzmann. In previous paper, we calculated the electron transport coefficients in pure Oxygen and Argon gases by using two-term approximation of Boltzmann equation. Therefore, in this paper, we calculated the electron transport coefficients(W and $N{\cdot}D_L$) in pure Oxygen and Argon gases for range of E/N values from 0.01~500[Td] at the temperature was 300[K] and pressure was 1[Torr] by using multi-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation by Robson and Ness, The results of two-term and multi-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation has been compared with the experimental data for a range of E/N.

  • Accurate sets of electron collision cross sections and the electron transport coefficients for atoms and molecules are necessary for quantitative understanding of plasma phenomena Kr and Xe atom are used in many industrial applications, such as in PDP and fluorescent induction lamps(FILs). Therefore, we analysed and calculated the electron transport coefficients, the electron drift velocity W, the longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficient $ND_L$ and $ND_T$, and the ionization coefficient $\alpha$/N in pure Kr and Xe gases over the wide E/N range from 0.001 to 500[Td] at 1[Torr] by two-tenn approximation of the Boltzmann equation.

  • The thermal transport coefficients-the self-diffusion coefficient, shear viscosity, and thermal conductivity-of liquid argon at 94.4 K and 1 atm are calculated by non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations of a Lennard-Jones potential and compared with those obtained from Green-Kubo relations using equilibrium molecular dynamics (EMD) simulations and with experimental data. The time-correlation functions-the velocity, pressure, and heat flux auto-correlation functions-of liquid argon obtained from the EMD simulations show well-behaved smooth curves which are not oscillating and decaying fast around 1.5 ps. The calculated self-diffusion coefficient from our NEMD simulation is found to be approximately 40% higher than the experimental result. The Lagrange extrapolated shear viscosity is in good agreement with the experimental result and the asymptotic formula of the calculated shear viscosities seems to be an exponential form rather than the square-root form predicted by other NEMD studies of shear viscosity. The agreement for thermal conductivity between the simulation results (NEMD and EMD) and the experimental result is within statistical error. In conclusion, through our NEMD and EMD simulations, the overall agreement is quite good, which means that the Green-Kubo relations and the NEMD algorithms of thermal transport coefficients for simple liquids are valid.

  • For quantitative understanding of gas discharge phenomena, we should know electron collision cross section. $GeH_4$ is used in many applications with $Si_2H_6$ gas, such as amorphous alloy, a thin film of silicon and solar cell. Therefore, we understand the electron transport characteristics and analysed the electron transport coefficients, the electron drift velocity W, the longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficient $ND_L$ and $ND_T$, and the ionization coefficient $\alpha$/N in $GeH_4$gas over the E/N range from 0.01 to 1000 Td by two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation.

  • The effect of presteaming on native oak specimens(Quercus serrata) of 2.5cm thick were investigated by measuring specific gravities, internal moisture gradients, residual extractives, and transport rates of free and bound water. The specific gravities and internal moisture gradients of the presteamed samples did not much deviate from those of the controls, but after presteaming discrepancy in moisture content between specimens lessened. The amount of residual hot-water extractives of the presteamed samples were less than those of the controls by 25%. The transport rates of bound water were determined by measuring steady-state diffusion coefficients with a vapormeter cup. After presteaming the diffusion coefficients in radial direction increased by 35%, but decreased those in the tangential direction.
