A leaf spot pathogen Alternaria sp. was recovered from jimson weed, tomato, parsley, and coriander collected during surveys of blight diseases on Solanaceae and Apiaceae in Algeria. This species produced large conidial body generating long apical beaks that tapered gradually from a wide base to a narrow tip and short conidiophores originating directly from the agar surface. This species exhibited morphological traits similar to that reported for Alternaria crassa. The identification of seven strains from different hosts was confirmed by sequence analyses at the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, RNA polymerase second largest subunit, and translation elongation factor 1-alpha loci. Further the pathogen was evaluated on jimson weed, coriander, parsley, and tomato plants, and this fungus was able to cause necrotic lesions on all inoculated plants. A. crassa is reported for the first time as a new species of the Algerian mycoflora and as a new potential pathogen for cultivated hosts.
Using the DDRT-PCR, a series of differentially expressed genes in human primary cervical cancer was isolated. Among the 250 PCR amplimers, 88 gene fragments were confirmed by reverse Northern hybridization. Homology searches indicated that 26 out of 88 were previously known genes including calmodulin, human BBC1, histone H3.3, a series of ribosomal proteins (RPL19, RPS19, and RPS12), translation initiation factor (eIF-4AI), lactoferrin, integrin ${\alpha}6$, cell-surface antigens (CD9 and CD59), transcription factor (mbp-1), and mitochondrial proteins. Several unknown clones showed sequence homology with known genes. Furthermore, six of the unknown genes showed identical sequence with expressed sequence tags (EST) of unknown function. Differential expression patterns of identified genes were further examined and confirmed with multiple pairs of cervical cancer samples using Northern hybridization. Our profiling of differentially expressed genes may provide useful information about the underlying genetic alterations in human cervical carcinoma and diagnostic markers for this disease. The precise roles of these genes in cancer development remain to be elucidated.
Sliding mode control guarantees robustness in the presence of modeling uncertainties and external disturbances. However, this can be obtained at the cost of high control activity that may lead to chattering As one way to alleviate this problem a boundary layer around sliding surface is typically used. In this case the selection of controller gain, control ban width and boundary layer thickness is a crucial problem for the trade-off between tracking error and chattering. The parameter tuning is usually done by trail-and-error in practice causing significant effort and time. An auto tuning method based on fuzzy rules is proposed in the paper in this method tracking error and chattering are monitored by performance indices and the controller tunes the design parameters intelligently in order to compromise both indices. To demonstrate the efficiency of the propose method a mass-spring translation system and a roboic control system are simulated and tested It is shown that the proposed algorithm is effective to facilitae the parameter tuning for sliding mode controllers.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the kinetic energy of putter head and ball movements during the process of impact. Highly skilled 5 golfers(less than 1 handicap) participated in this study and the target distance was 3 m. Movements of ball and putter head were recorded with 2 VHS video cameras(60 Hz, 1/500 s shutter speed). Small control object($18.5{\times}18.5{\times}78.5\;cm$) was used in this sdtuldy. Analyzing the process of impact, putter was digitized before 0.0835 s and after 0.0835 s of impact. Ball was digitized 0.1336 s after impact. The results showed that the maximum speed was appeared at Impact and prolonged for a while. Contact point of the club head was within 0.7 cm to the z axis. After contacting the club head, the ball was moved above the ground level(slide) and returned to the ground with sliding and rolling. After contacting the ground, the speed of ball was relied on the surface of the ground. During impact, 70% of kinetic energy of club head has been transferred to the ball.
This paper presents experimental results which explore the capability of a CW laser speckle photography for tile measurement of in-plane displacement at high temperature. The serious restrictions on the application of the method seem to be the ambient air turbulence and the change of surface texture caused by the oxidation, as they tend to decorrelate the double exposured speckle patterns. In order to assess only the effect of air turbulence, a ceramics-coated stainless steel plate is heated in air and Ar-laser specklegrams are made with combination of temperature and lateral translation displacement. The slight reduction in visibility of Young's fringes is observed at $1000^{\circ}C$. The analyses of Young's fringes are carried out by a image processing system using a TV-camera and computers, and the result agrees well with the micrometer reading. Futhermore, uncoated stainless steel and Hastelloy X plates are tested and the effect of oxidation is also evaluated. The experimental results demonstrate that a CW laser speckle photography is applicable at temperatures up to $1000^{\circ}C$.

Plant seed oil-bodies or oleosomes ate the repository of the neutral lipid stored in seeds. These organelles in many oilseeds may comprise half of the total cellular volume. Oleosomes are surrounded by a half-unit membrane of phospholipid into which are embedded proteins called oleosins. Oleosins are present at high density on the oil-body surface and after storage proteins comprise the most abundant proteins in oilseeds. Oleosins are specifically targeted and anchored to oil-bodies after co-translation on the ER. It has been shown that the amino-acid sequences responsible for this unique targeting reside primarily in the central hydrophobic tore of the oleosin polypeptide. In addition, a signal-like sequence is found near the junction of the hydrophobic domain and ann N-terminal hydrophilic / amphipathic domain. This "signal" which is uncleaved is also essential for correct targeting. Oil-bodies and their associated oleosins may be recovered by floatation centrifugation of aqueous seed extracts. This simple partitioning step results in a dramatic enrichment for oleosins in the oil-body fraction. In the light of these properties, we reasoned that it would be feasible to create fusion proteins on oil-bodies comprising oleosins and an additional valuable protein of pharmaceutical or industrial interest. It was further postulated that if these proteins were displayed on the outer surface of oil-bodies, it would be possible to release them from the purified oil-bodies using chemical or proteolytic cleavage. This could result in a simple means of recovering high-value protein from seeds at a significant (i.e. commercial) scale. This procedure has been successfully reduced to practice for a wide variety of proteins of therapeutic, industrial and food no. The utillity of the method will be discussed using a blood anticoagulant, hirudin, and industrial enzymes as key examples.
The progress of periodontal disease and the wound healing process after treatment result in alveolar bone bone change. So, detection of it is very important in the diagnosis and the radiograph of periodontal disease. Various effects have been made to assess the subtle alveolar bone change and digital subtraction radiography (DSR) has been reported to be the best method in evaluating it qualitatively and quantitatively. The present study was performed to estimate the detectable alveolar bone change qualitatively with digital subtraction radiography. For the in vitro study, 10 intraoral standard radiographs were taken from porcine dry mandible which a rectangular cortical bone chip of 0.1mm to 1.0mm thickness with 0.1mm increment was attached on the buccal surface. The radiographs without and with bone plates were reviewed at the same time by 10 observers and requested to detect the presence of cortical bone plates. Digital Subtraction radiograph was reviewed subsequently by using the DSR system(digital converter-256 grey-levels,DT 2851,Data Translation Co., U.S.A;IBM 386 ; CCD camera, FOTOVIX, Tamrom Co., Japan). The detectable thickness of cortical bone plate was O.4mm on the intraoral radiograph and 0.2mm on the subtaction images. For the human study, radiographs were taken from patients by using intraoral film holding device and aluminum reference wedge before and 3 month after bone graft and 1 week after osteoplasty. The grey level change was estimated in the subtraction images and calculated to aluminum equivalent thickness. The grey level of the grafted site was higher that that of healthy controls. Average grey levels of change on healthy controls were O.48mm aluminum equivalent. However, the amount of changes in grafted sites were 1.87mm aluminum thickness equivalent and in the site of osteoplasty were -1.49mm aluminum thickness equivalent. In conclusion, digital subtraction radiography was more effective in detecting as subtle change of alveolar bone than intraoral standard radiography. With the aid of quantitative analysis of digital subtraction radiography, alveolar bone resorption of apposition can be estimated during diagnosis and treatment of periodontally diseased patients.
To implement the insects' flapping flight for developing flapping MAVs(micro air vehicles), the unsteady flow characteristics of the insects' forward flight is investigated. In this paper, two-dimensional FSI(Fluid-Structure Interaction) simulations are conducted to examine realistic flow features of insects' flapping flight and to examine the flexibility effects of the insect's wing. The unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with an artificial compressibility method are implemented as the fluid module while the dynamic finite element equations using a direct integration method are employed as the solid module. In order to exchange physical information to each module, the common refinement method is employed as the data transfer method. Also, a simple and efficient dynamic grid deformation technique based on Delaunay graph mapping is used to deform computational grids. Compared to the earlier researches of two-dimensional rigid wing simulations, key physical phenomena and flow patterns such as vortex pairing and vortex staying can still be observed. For example, lift is mainly generated during downstroke motion by high effective angle of attack caused by translation and lagging motion. A large amount of thrust is generated abruptly at the end of upstroke motion. However, the quantitative aspect of flow field is somewhat different. A flexible wing generates more thrust but less lift than a rigid wing. This is because the net force acting on wing surface is split into two directions due to structural flexibility. As a consequence, thrust and propulsive efficiency was enhanced considerably compared to a rigid wing. From these numerical simulations, it is seen that the wing flexibility yields a significant impact on aerodynamic characteristics.
The reaction of methyl radical with iodine molecule on an attractive potential energy surface is studied by classical trajectory procedures. The reaction occurs over a wide range of impact parameters with the majority of reactive events occurring in the backward rebound region on a subpicosecond scale. A small fraction of reactive events take place in the forward hemisphere on a longer time scale. The ensemble average of reaction times is 0.36 ps. The occurrence of reactive events is strongly favored when the incident radical and the target molecule align in the neighborhood of collinear geometry. Since the rotational velocity of I2 is slow, the preferential occurrence of reactive events at the collinear configuration of $CH_3{\ldots}I{\ldots}$I leads to the reaction exhibiting an anisotropic dependence on the orientation of $I_2$. During the collision, there is a rapid flow of energy from the $H_3C{\ldots}$I interaction to the I-I bond. The $CH_3I$ translation and $H_3C$-I vibration share nearly all the energy released in the reaction, and the distribution of the vibrational energy is statistical. The reaction probability is $\cong$0.4 at the $CH_3$ and I2 temperatures maintained at 1000 K and 300 K, respectively. The probability is weakly dependent on the $CH_3\;and\;I_2$ temperatures between 300 K and 1500 K.
