Software safety for nuclear reactor protection systems (RPSs) is the most important requirement for the obtainment of permission for operation and export from government authorities, which is why it should be managed with well-experienced software development processes. The RPS software is typically modeled with function block diagrams (FBDs) in the design phase, and then mechanically translated into C programs in the implementation phase, which is finally compiled into executable machine codes and loaded on RPS hardware - PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). Whereas C Compilers are fully-verified COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) software, translators from FBDs to C programs are provided by PLC vendors. Long-term experience, experiments and simulations have validated their correctness and function safety. This paper proposes a behavior-preserving translation from FBD design to C implementation for RPS software. It includes two sets of translation algorithms and rules as well as a prototype translator. We used an example of RPS software in a Korean nuclear power plant to demonstrate the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed translation.

Hearing impaired people are living in a voice culture area, but due to the difficulty of communicating with normal people using sign language, many people experience discomfort in daily life and social life and various disadvantages unlike their desires. Therefore, in this paper, we study a sign language translation system for communication between a normal person and a hearing impaired person using sign language and implement a prototype system for this. Previous studies on sign language translation systems for communication between normal people and hearing impaired people using sign language are classified into two types using video image system and shape input device. However, existing sign language translation systems have some problems that they do not recognize various sign language expressions of sign language users and require special devices. In this paper, we use machine learning method of artificial neural network to recognize various sign language expressions of sign language users. By using generalized smart phone and various video equipment for sign language image recognition, we intend to improve the usability of sign language translation system.

This paper presents the work of Southeast Asian scholar Ramon Guillermo. Using sophisticated computer-aided methods, Guillermo approaches a range of topics in the wide fields of social sciences and the humanities. A creative writer as well as an activist, Guillermo grounds his studies in nationalism and Marxism. Particularly interested in Indonesian and Philippine society and culture, Guillermo engages with the writings of labor leaders Tan Malaka and Lope K. Santos, translations of Marx's Capital into Bahasa and Filipino, and studies as well the discursive and historical connections between the Communist Parties of both countries. The paper aims to introduce the innovations of Guillermo's studies, particularly in the fields of cultural studies and translation studies. The type of cultural studies Guillermo practices is empirical, taking inspiration from innovations done in the digital humanities. Guillermo is most opposed to trendy, fashion-seeking approaches that are not grounded on history. He reserves particular ire for "hip" postcolonialism, and instead praises studies that are founded on politics and materialism. In translation studies, Guillermo goes beyond the mere cataloguing of mistakes. For him, it is the mistakes and "perversities" of a translation that is interesting and illuminating. Guillermo himself is a translator, and the paper ends with a brief discussion of his production in this field.

This paper is motivated by Watanabe's (2001) observation that English byphrase passives are sometimes translated into Japanese object topicalization constructions. That is, the original English sentence in the passive may be translated into the active voice with the logical object topicalized. A number of scholars, including Chomsky (1981) and Baker (1992), have remarked that languages have various ways to avoid focusing on the logical subject. The aim of the present study is to examine the translation equivalents of the English by-phrase passives in an English-Korean parallel corpus compiled by the author. A small sample of articles from Newsweek magazine and its published Korean translation reveals that there are indeed many ways to translate English by-phrase passives, including object topicalization (12.5%). Among the 64 translated sentences analyzed and classified, 12 (18.8%) examples were problematic in terms of agent defocusing, which is the primary function of passives. Of these 12 instances, five cases were identified where an alternative translation would be more suitable. The results suggest that the functional characteristics of English by-phrase passives should be highlighted in translator training as well as language teaching.

영한 기계번역 시스템을 개발하기 위해서는 언어에 대한 다양한 정보를 필요로 하며, 특히 영어 단어에 대한 의미 정보를 포함하는 영한 변환사전의 풍부한 정보량은 번역품질에 중요한 요소이다. 지속적으로 생성되는 새로운 단어들은 사전에 등록되어 있지 않아 번역문에 영어 단어가 그대로 출력되어 번역품질을 저하시킨다. 또한 복합명사는 어휘분석, 구문분석을 복잡하게 하고 사전에 의미가 등록되지 않은 경우가 많아 올바르게 번역하기 어렵다. 따라서 영한 기계번역의 번역품질 향상을 위해서는 사전에 등록되어 있지 않은 단어들과 자주 사용되는 복합명사들을 수집하고 의미 정보를 추가하여 영한 변환사전을 지속적으로 확장하는 것이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 인터넷 신문기사로부터 말뭉치를 추출하고, 사전 미등록 단어와 자주 나타나는 복합명사를 찾은 후, 이들에 대해 의미를 부착하여 영한 변환사전에 추가하는 일련의 과정으로 구성되는 영한 변환사전의 확장 방안을 제안하고 이를 지원하는 도구를 개발하였다. 사전 정보의 확대는 많은 사람의 노력을 필요로 하는 일이지만, 영한 기계번역 시스템의 개선을 위해서는 필수적이다. 본 논문에서 개발한 도구는 사람의 노력을 최소화 하면서, 영한 변환사전의 정보량 지속적인 확대를 위해 유용하게 활용되어 영한 기계번역 시스템의 번역품질 개선에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

The Integrated Stress Response (ISR) refers to a signaling pathway initiated by stress-activated $eIF2{\alpha}$ kinases. Once activated, the pathway causes attenuation of global mRNA translation while also paradoxically inducing stress response gene expression. A detailed analysis of this pathway has helped us better understand how stressed cells coordinate gene expression at translational and transcriptional levels. The translational attenuation associated with this pathway has been largely attributed to the phosphorylation of the translational initiation factor $eIF2{\alpha}$. However, independent studies are now pointing to a second translational regulation step involving a downstream ISR target, 4E-BP, in the inhibition of eIF4E and specifically cap-dependent translation. The activation of 4E-BP is consistent with previous reports implicating the roles of 4E-BP resistant, Internal Ribosome Entry Site (IRES) dependent translation in ISR active cells. In this review, we provide an overview of the translation inhibition mechanisms engaged by the ISR and how they impact the translation of stress response genes.

통계기반 자동 번역 시스템은 구현과 유지보수의 용이함으로 최근 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 MOSES[1] 시스템을 이용하여 통계기반의 한/일 양방향 기계번역시스템을 구축하는 것이다. 한/일 문장단위 병렬 코퍼스를 구축하여 번역모델 학습에 이용하였고, 한/일 각각 대량의 원시 코퍼스를 이용하여 언어모델 학습에 이용하였다. 시스템 구축 결과 기존의 규칙기반 번역 시스템의 성능에 근접하는 결과를 얻었으며, 발생하는 오류의 대부분은 각 처리 단계에서 발생하는 노이즈에 기인하였다.

The CMIP(Common Management Information Protocol) and SNMP(Simple Network Management Network) are the two major network management protocols, Which nee to be integrated. Since the networks need to be managed in a uniform way, the CORBA(Common Object Request Broker Architecture) NE View is to develop as a Standard in the ATM Forum For the TMN management structure to integrate these two protocols. In this paper, the function classes are defined to develop the gateway for efficient subnetwork management. The function classes are defined based on the analysis of EMS functions which are mainly network management design of the TMN structure. Also, the object models of the SMI)(Structure of Management Information) in SNMP and the GDMO(Guidelines for the Definition of Managed Objects) in CMIP are developed way direct translation and abstract translation. The integrated management system design, information model translation of EMS using classdefinition, is efficient is efficient method to interconnect CORBA/SNMP and CORBA/CMIP.
