  • Nanostructures, with a diversity of shapes, built on substrates have been developed within many research areas. Lithography is one powerful, but complex, technique to make structures at the nanometer scale, such as platinum nanowires for studying CO catalytic reactions [1], or aluminum nanodisks for studying the plasmon effect [2]. In this work, we approach a facile method to construct nanostructures using noble metals on a titania thin film by using self-assembled structures as a pattern. Here, a large-scale silica monolayer is transferred to the titania thin film substrates using a Langmuir-Blodgett trough, followed by the deposition of a thin transition metal layer. Owing to the hexagonal close-packed structure of the silica monolayer, we would obtain a metal nanostructure that includes separated metallic triangles (islands) after removing the patterning silica beads. This nanostructure can be employed to investigate the role of metal-oxide interfaces in CO catalytic reactions by changing the patterning silica particles with different sizes or by replacing the oxide support. The morphology and chemical composition of the structure can be characterized by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In addition, we modify these islands to a connected island structure by reducing the silica size of the patterning monolayer, which is utilized to generating hot electron flow based on the localized surface plasmon resonance effect of the metal nanostructures.

  • Three kinds of organometallic compounds (chromium acetylacetonate, magnesium acetate and vanadyl acetylacetonate) were used as transition metal precursor, titanium n-butoxide and multi-walled carbon nanotube as titanium and carbon precursor to prepare metal oxide-CNT/$TiO^2$ composites. The surface properties and morphology of metal oxide-CNT/$TiO^2$ composites were by Brauer-Emett-Teller (BET) surface area measurement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. The photocatalytic activity of prepared metal oxide-CNT/$TiO^2$ composites was determined by the degradation effect of methylene blue in an aqueous solution under irradiation of visible light.

  • New silicon-monosubstituted (${\eta}^4$-2,3,4,5-tetraphenyl-1-silacyclopentadiene)transi tion metal complexes are described. The new (silole-transition metal complex)Fe$(CO)_3$ was obtained from the reaction of silole-tansition metal complex and Fe$(CO)_5$. We have determined the crystal structure of (${\eta}^4$-exo-cyclopentadienyldicarbonyliron-endo-1-meth yl-2,3,4,5-tetraphenyl-1-silacyclopentadienyl)tric arbonyliron by using graphitemonochromated Mo-$K_{\alpha}radiation. The compound was crystallized in the monoclinic space group $P2_1$/c with a = 8.925(1), b = 18.689(3), c = 19.930(3) ${\AA}$, and ${\beta}$ = 102.02$(1)^{\circ}$. The iron moiety CpFe$(CO)_2$ on silicon is in an axal position. The (silole-transition metal complex) Fe$(CO)_3$ was also prepared through the reaction of (${\eta}^4$-1-chloro-2,3,4,5-tetraphenylsilacyclopentadiene) Fe$(CO)_3$ and metal complex nucleophile. The structure configuration was studied by conventional spectroscopy.

  • The most commercially and academically advanced catalysts of late transition metals are diimine complexes based on Pd(II)/Ni(II) and bis(imino)pyridyl complexes based on Fe(II)/Co(II). It is well known that the former systems yield branched polyethylenes and the latter linear PEs. In this presentation, effect of extremely bulky ligands with electron withdrawing/donating substituents at a remote position from Ni(II) metal center and of using multi-nuclear homo or hetero multi-metal on the ethylene polymerization is to be paged.

  • Replacing Pb-free glass composition for the dielectric materials is expected in PDP industry. In this study, phosphate glasses, $P_2O_5$- ZnO- SnO (PZS), $P_2O_5$-ZnO-BaO (PZB) were selected for a new transparent dielectric. Thermal properties (Tg, CTE) were measured with differential thermal analyzer and thermal mechanical analyzer. The glass transition of the glasses was ranged at $365{\sim}405^{\circ}C$ for the PZS system and $5.9{\sim}9.5{\times}\;10^{-6}$ of thermal expansion were found. The PZB system showed $445{\sim}470^{\circ}C$ of glass transition. Thus, the glass compositions would be a potential candidate for a transparent dielectric layer in plasma display panel.

  • Polymer memory devices have attracted considerable attention because of their advantages such as low cost potential, good scalability, flexibility, simplicity in structure, and large capacity for data storage. Metal/poly (4,4'-aminotriphenylene hexafluoroisopropylidenediphthalimide) (6F-TPA PI)/metal system has been found to show an electrical bi-stable behavior. Here, we show a novel set-up of 6F-TPA PI/Al sample in which holes are injected by photoelectron emission process instead of direct charge carrier injection via metal electrode. In this process, an irreversible electrical phase transition of 6F-TPA PI is found, leading to a write-once-read-many (WORM) behavior. The photoelectron spectroscopy results measured before and after the switching process revealed that the irreversible electrical phase transition of 6F-TPA PI is attributed to the chemical modification of the carbonyl group in phthalimide moiety.

  • A new pyrene appended diaza-18-crown-6 ether derivative 1 has been prepared and its fluoroionophoric properties toward transition metal ions were investigated. Compound 1 exhibited a high Hg2+-selectivity over other transition metal ions as well as alkali and alkaline earth metal ions in aqueous acetonitrile solution. The ratiometric analysis of the monomer and excimer emissions of pyrene successfully signals the presence of Hg2+ ions. The detection limit for Hg2+ ions was found to be 3.1 ´ 10-6 M in 50% aqueous acetonitrile solution at pH 8.1. Competition experiments also suggest that the compound could be utilized as a selective and sensitive fluorescent chemosensor for the analysis of micromolar Hg2+ ions in physiological and environmental samples.

  • In this experimental study, methanol was chosen as a system material for a long -distance heat transportation. Not only transition metals but also noble metals were investigated as an active component, and several metal oxides, such as ${\gamma}$-$Al_2$,$O_3$, $SiO_2$, etc. as a support. In general, transition metal catalysts absorbed more heat than noble metal catalysts. The amount of heat absorption and CO selectivity depends on temperature and methanol partial pressure, and 25$0^{\circ}C$ Ni/$SiO_2$ catalyst showed the best result for methanol decomposition reaction.
