  • AGT(Automated Guide-way Transit System) was introduced to satisfy the every increasing need for improved urban transportation. The AGT system is classified as medium distance and demand capacity mass transit being introduced for such area with inadequate passenger demand for railway construction but excessive demand for bus service. To decrease initial investment cost it is important that we have to secure the technology system of Light Rail Transit for Korea environment. By utilizing the finite element analysis, the result in this paper is enough to satisfy the strength whish is required. Also for the purpose of safety, it is decided the thickness and frame structure of the undeframe section through the analysis. It is known that carbody is no problem for required design conditions.

  • A set of design factors that should be considered during rail transit system development in proposed. As the current trend in the rail transit development emphasizes its role as a medium through which the interaction between the city environment and people takes place, the factors of harmony, color, characteristics, identity, and communication should be considered in the railway-transit system design. It's important to ensure that there exist harmony between the design and the civic environment, the influence of color on people is properly considered, the car design possesses distinct characteristics, and that the sense of common identity as well as effective communication is fostered between the system and people it serves. Several cases from various countries are presented to illustrate the points raised in the paper.

  • The status and effectiveness of Bi-modal Tram is analyzed through the comparison of the transport effectiveness and operation cost between the public transportation systems (bus, light rail transit) considering the vehicle and operation characteristic of new transit system Bi-modal Tram. The standard operation schedule is established in consideration of the vehicle specification and operation characteristic of main public transportation modes, and then the annual average operation cost is estimated depending on the volume, speed, analysis length for respective public transportation mode. Through analyzing the operation cost and distribution characteristic of public transportation modes depending on the transport volume and travel speed, the operational efficiency suitable for the city is derived. It is concluded that the operational efficiency of Bi-modal Tram is superior to that of the bus and light rail transit on the aspect of travel volume and operation speed.

  • The concrete track system on domestic urban transit has being constructed since 1974. Because a maintenance and repair of concrete track system is convenient, a construction is increased. The concrete track system on domestic urban transit is constructed 71.8% of total track system length and constructed variously, for example STEDEF, LVT, ALT and so on. Recently, railway noise is issued as environment problem. The method for mitigation of urban transit noise is required. In this study to study noise characteristics on concrete tracks we measured noise by concrete track types and analysis the result.

  • Urban transit or subway stations generally service for a long period of several decades. And, the urban transit or subway is public transportation which lots of people takes every day. During the service time, they are inevitably damaged from environmental corrosion, material aging, fatigue, and the coupling effects with long-term loads and extreme loads. The included damage accumulates and performance degenerates due to the above factors. They would inevitably reduce the resisting capacity of station against the disaster; even they result in collapse with the structural failure under extreme loads. And, if disaster such as earthquake, fire, etc. happens, it causes huge property damage and threatens the human lives. Because of these above reasons, the intelligent health surveillance system should be researched and developed for ensuring the safety of station. In this paper, the research plans of the intelligent health surveillance system of urban transit station are presented. And also, the development or establishment directions of this system are suggested.

  • DC transit system has been adopted in the metropolitan area, Korea since 1974. EMU in this system always reiterates that acceleration and retardation. When EMU decelerates using electric breaking, regenerative power occurs. Regenerative power can be consumed in vicinity EMU on the same line or in resistor. If DC transit system has inverter for reusing regenerative power, Energy efficiency in DC transit system will be increased. This paper present the adoption of developed inverter in commercial railway line and the test result procedure of developed inverter is presented.

Evaluation of Antidiarrhoeal Activity of Aerva species

  • The genus Aerva is distributed is temperate and stropical Asia and Africa. Aerva species, Aerva lanata and Aerva javanica have been used for antidiarrhoeal activity in Indian traditional medicine. A.lanata and A.javanica were screened separately for their. anti-diarrhoeal activity and their action on intestinal transit on their vacuum dried ethanolic and aqueous extracts at the dose of 800 mg/kg by standard methods. All the extracts showed significant antidairrhoeal activity and significantly reduced intestinal transit in charcoal meal test. The results illustrate that the ethanolic and aqueous extracts of A.lanata and the ethanolic and aqueous extracts of A.javanica have significant antidiarrhoeal activity and the activity may be attributed to its effect on intestinal transit. The present study supports the claim of Aerva lanata and Aerva javanica as antidiarrhoeal drugs in the Indian system of medicine.

  • Bioadhesive microcapsules of cephalexin, using Eudragit RS/RL coated with polycarbophil or carbopol, were evaluated biopharmaceutically. The GI transit of microcapsules in rats was studied. Bioadhesive microcapsules coated with polycarbophil or carbopol were shown to have substantially longer GI transit time than Eudragit RS/RL microcapsule. The delay in transit time was due to bioadhesion of the polymer to the mucin-epithelial cell surface which was clearly observable on animal autopsy. Plasma drug levels in rabbits showed that bioadhesive microcapsules resulted in a longer duration of action and greater bioavailability than other microcapsule or drug powder. Thus, the principle of bioadhesion can significantly improve therapy, due to a reduced rate of gastric emptying, an increase in contact time, and the intimacy of contact of the drug with the absorbing membrane.

  • KoRail establishes "Guideline for earthquake acceleration measuring instrument and operation." and applies the management of the rapid transit railroad. KoRail manages the trains by train driving patterns subjected to the train operating know-how for the safety against the earthquake hazards. This paper introduces the case studies on bench blast and tunnel blast designs considering a rapid transit railroad.

  • ProfiBus provides real-time data communication among field devices in the EMU(Electrical Multiple Unit) and TCMS(Train Control Monitoring System). This paper presents an adapt to Train Communication Network for EMU using ProfiBus DP(Decentralized Periphery) method, which is the layer 2 DDLM (Direct Data Link Mapper) protocol of ProfiBus.
