This paper presents a master-slave constraint method, which may substitute the conventional transformed-section method, to account for the changes in cross-sectional properties of composite members during construction and to investigate the time-dependent performance of steel-concrete composite bridges. The time-dependent effects caused by creep and shrinkage of concrete are considered by combining the age-adjusted effective modulus method and finite element analysis. An efficient computational tool which runs in AutoCAD environment is developed to simulate the construction process of steel-concrete composite bridges. The major highlight of the developed tool consists in a very convenient and user-friendly interface integrated in AutoCAD environment. The accuracy of the proposed method is verified by comparing its results with those provided by using the transformed-section method. Furthermore, the computational efficiency of the developed tool is demonstrated by applying it to a steel-concrete composite bridge.
A damped Timoshenko beam element is introduced for the DOF-efficient forced vibration analysis of beam-like structures coated with viscoelastic damping layers. The rotary inertia as well as the shear deformation is considered, and the damping effect of viscoelastic layers is modeled as an imaginary loss factor in the complex shear modulus. A complex composite cross-section of structures is replaced with a homogeneous one by means of the transformed section approach in order to construct an equivalent single-layer finite element model capable of employing the standard $C^{0}$-continuity basis functions. The numerical reliability and the DOF-efficiency are explored through the comparative numerical experiments.
In this paper a new numerical method to determine the elastic curve of the simply supported beams of variable cross-section is demonstrated. In general case it needs to solve linear or small nonlinear second order differential equations with prescribed boundary conditions. For numerical solution the initial values of the slope and the deflection of the end cross-section of the beam is necessary. For obtaining the initial values a lively procedure is developed: it is a special application of the shooting method because boundary value problems can be transformed into initial value problems. As a result of these transformations the initial values of the differential equations are obtained with high accuracy. Procedure is applied for calculating of elastic curve of a simply supported beam of variable cross-section. Results of these numerical procedures, analytical solution of the linearized version and finite element method are compared. It is proved that the suggested procedure yields technically accurate results.
In this paper, the existing formulas of the step-by-step method were generalized for effective estimation of responses of complicated composite sections due to long-term deformation of concrete. The initial transformed section properties of the composite section were derived from material and section properties of concrete section and sections which confine the longterm deformation of concrete. The transformed section properties at each step were derived from the effective modulus of elasticity considered the creep coefficient variation. Improved formulas of the step-by-step method for generalized responses were derived by introducing 5 generalized parameters. The formulas can be more simplified by applying constant increment of creep coefficient at each step. The constant increment of creep coefficient at each step can also reduce computing time and make equal computing error of each step. The generalized responses for axial elastic strain of concrete section were most sensitive to the area rate of concrete section, and the ratio of the second moment of the confining section area was more sensitive than that of the concrete section. Those for elastic curvature of concrete section were most sensitive to the ratio of the second moment of concrete section area.
Three dimensional coupled bending-torsion dynamic vibrations of thin-walled open section beam subjected to moving vehicle are investigated by transfer matrix method. Through adopting the idea of Newmark-${\beta}$ method, the partial differential equations of structural vibration can be transformed to the differential equations. Then, those differential equations are solved by transfer matrix method. An iterative scheme is proposed to deal with the coupled bending-torsion terms in the governing vibration equations. The accuracy of the presented method is verified through two numerical examples. Finally, with different eccentricities of vehicle, the torsional vibration of thin-walled open section beam and vertical and rolling vibration of truck body are investigated. It can be concluded from the numerical results that the torsional vibration of beam and rolling vibration of vehicle increase with the eccentricity of vehicle. Moreover, it can be observed that the torsional vibration of thin-walled open section beam may have a significant nonlinear influence on vertical vibration of truck body.
In this paper, Shape optimal design for a chair with 4 legs and 2 stretchers consisting of stainless steel was conducted. The shape was transformed by identifying stress and deformation for the part of leg and stretcher. In addition, load condition and mesh was designed using Hypermesh. The stress analysis was carried out using CSD_Elast that is one of EDISON program. In seat test, Maximum equivalent stress was showed at the contact part between seat and legs. As a result, a leg cross-section with rectangular and arch was designed. And optimal height of stretcher was found to reduce a deformation. Also, maximum deformation was reduced by designing a stretcher with ellipse cross-section. So, Optimal chair having 4 legs with rectangular cross section and 2 stretchers with ellipse cross section was shown to satisfy the safety ratio.
The aim of this paper is to study the mechanical behaviors of the cold-formed thin-walled steel and reinforced concrete sandwich composite slab (CTS&RC-SCS) under vertical loads and to develop the calculation methods of its flexural bearing capacity and section stiffness. Two CTS&RC-SCS specimens were designed and manufactured to carry out the static loading test, and meanwhile, the numerical simulation analyses based on finite element method were implemented. The comparison between experimental results and numerical analysis results shows that the CTS&RC-SCS has good flexural capacity and ductility, and the accuracy and rationality of the numerical simulation analysis are verified. Further, the variable parameter analysis results indicate that neither increasing the concrete strength grade nor increasing the thickness of C-sections can significantly improve the flexural capacity of CTS&RC-SCS. With the increase of the ratio of longitudinal bars and the thickness of the composite slab, the flexural capacity of CTS&RC-SCS will be significantly increased. On the basis of experimental research and numerical analysis above, the calculation formula of the flexural capacity of CTS&RC-SCS was deduced according to the plastic section design theory, and section stiffness calculation formula was proposed according to the theory of transformed section. In terms of the ultimate flexural capacity and mid-span deflection, the calculated values based on the formulas and the experimental values are in good agreement.
This paper presents a new method of solving the electric potential distribution using the finite element method. The thoracic region surrounded by the body surface and the heart is discretized into finite elements and the Continuous Laplace-equation is transformed into one of the finite degrees of freedom. The current source density, the conductivity, and the excitable range is obtained by the references. From the result of simulation, it was revealed that the potential pattern of in homogeneity was much different from that of homogeneity.

Equations of motion of a rotating blade considering pre-twist angle, cross section taper and a concentrated mass are derived using the hybrid deformation variable modeling method. For the modeling of a concentrated mass which is located at an arbitrary position of the blade, a Dirac delta function is employed for the mass density function. The final equations for the vibration analysis are transformed into a dimensionless form using several dimensionless parameters. The effects of the dimensionless parameters on the vibration characteristics of the rotating blade are investigated through numerical analysis.
The scattering characteristics are analysed for the dielectric cylinder with arbitrary cross section partially covered by thin conductors. The integro differential equations consistant with boundary conditions of conductor and dielectric boundaries are derived by the equivalence principle. They are transformed into matrix equations by moment method. The circular dielectric cylinder covered by conductors at the upper and bottom side of the cylinder is chosen for the numerical example. Current distributions on conductors and scattering cross section by the cylinder are computed for incident wave perpendicular to the conductor plane.
