  • Polycrystalline Ni-Mn-Ga films have been deposited onto mica substrates held at 720 K by flash-evaporation method. At room temperature the films have a tetragonal structure with a = b = 0.598 and c = 0.576 nm typical for bulk $Ni_2MnGa$ below a martensitic transformation. Temperature measurements of ferromagnetic resonance reveal a martensitic phase transformation at 310 K. The transformation brings about a substantial decrease in the effective magnetization and a drastic increase in the ferromagnetic resonance linewidth due to a strong increase in the magnetic anisotropy in the martensitic phase.

  • The Box-Cox transformation is a well known family of power transformation that brings a set of data into agreement with the normality assumption of the residuals and hence the response variable of a postulated model in regression analysis. This paper proposes a new method for estimating the Box-Cox transformation using maximization of the Sample Entropy statistic which forces the data to get closer to normal as much as possible. A comparative study of the proposed procedure with the maximum likelihood procedure, the procedure via artificial regression estimation, and the recently introduced maximization of the Shapiro-Francia W' statistic procedure is given. In addition, we generate a table for the optimal spacings parameter in computing the Sample Entropy statistic.

  • This paper presents a new methodology for specification and control of the motion of an articulated rigid body for the purposes of animation by coordinate transformations. The approach is to formulate the problem as a coordinate transformation from the joint space of the body to a user-defined animation space which is chosen for convenience in constraining the motion. Constraints are applied to the resulting coordinate transformation equations. It is sufficiently general so that it can be applied to all common types of control problems, including closed loop as well as open loop mechanisms. We also provided a new approach to simulate a closed loop mechanism, which is using animation space transformation technique. The method is formulated in detail and is demonstrated by animating the motion of an inchworm.

  • The plasma-sprayed 8%Y$_2$O$_3$-Zirconia coating was studied to know the relationship between phase transformation and wear properties after several heat treatment. Wear tests were carried out with ball on disk on 50N, 70N, 90N. The specimen in this study was cast iron and tests were performed on room temperature. The transformation of phase and residual stress was measured by x-ray diffraction method(XRD) and worn surface were observed by SEM.

  • The transformation capacity (T$\_$c/) of Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b in the degradation of ethylene chlorides was determined by measuring the decrease of soluble methane monooxygenase (sMMO) activity of resting cells in batch experiments. All measurements of sMMO activity were taken in the presence of 20 mM formate to avoid the deficiency of reducing power, and within 2 hrs to avoid the effect of natural inactivation from instability of the resting cells. The constant T$\_$c/ values of 0.58 ${\pm}$ 0.132 and 0.80 ${\pm}$ 0.17 ${\mu}$mol/mg cell were obtained for trichloroethylene (TCE) and 1,2-dichloroethylene (cis and trans-1,2-DCE), respectively, regardless of their concentrations. The transformation capacity measured by this method can be used to predict the amount of cells that should be stimulated in in-situ bioremediation.

  • The supported and unsupported boehmite ($\gamma$-AlOOH) membranes were prepared using a boehmite sol. The supported membrane was consisted of a porcelain support, two intermediate $\alpha-{Al_2}{O_3}$ layers, and a top boehmite membrane. XRD patterns showed that the supported top membrane had a higher $\theta-$ to $\alpha-{Al_2}{O_3}$ transformation temperature compared to the unsupported membrane. This result was also confirmed from microstructural study of the membrane. The shift in the phase transformation temperature should be explained by difference of a stress generated in the supported top membrane due to interaction between the support layers and the top membrane.

  • The mechanical properties of a hot rolled steel is mostly governed by a cooling control on the run out table. During the cooling control, the hot rotted steel performs a metallurgical transformation(austenite ${\to}$ ferrite) which can be measured with a magnetic flux detector. The magnetic flux detector consisting of exciting and detecting coil can estimates the metallurgical transformation by measuring the variation of permeability in steel. We developed the method of detecting the magnetic property of hot rolled steel and processing the measured signal, Which makes possible to measure on-line metallurgical transformation.

  • We propose a unified approach to variable selection, transformation and outliers in the linear model. The procedure includes a sequential method for outlier detection and a least trimmed squares estimator for variable transformation. It uses all possible subsets regressions for model selection. Some real data analyses and the simulation results are provided to show the efficiency of the methods in the context of the correct variable selection and the fitness of the estimated model.

  • If normality of an observed data is not a viable assumption, we can carry out normal-theory analyses by suitable transforming data. Power transformation by Box and Cox, one of the transformation methods, is derived the power which maximized the likelihood function. But it doesn't induces the closed form in mathematical analysis. In this paper, we compose some R the syntax of which is easier than other statistical packages for deriving the power with using numerical methods. Also, by using R, we show the transformed data approximately distributed the normal through Q-Q plot in univariate and bivariate cases with some examples. Finally, we present the value of a goodness-of-fit statistic(AD) and its p-value for normal distribution. In the similar procedure, this method can be extended to more than bivariate case.
