  • With the widespread use of modern clean energy, lithium-ion batteries have become essential as a more reliable energy storage component in the energy Internet. However, due to the difference in monomers, some of the battery over-charge or over-discharge in battery packs restrict their use. Therefore, a novel multiphase interleaved converter for reducing the inconsistencies of the individual cells in a battery pack is proposed in this paper. Based on the multiphase converter branches connected to each lithium battery, this circuit realizes energy transferred from any cell(s) to any other cell(s) complementarily. This flexible interlaced converter is composed of an improved bi-directional Buck-Boost circuit that is presented with its own available control method. A simulation model based on the PNGV model of fundamental equalization is built with four cells in PSIM. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that converter and its control achieve simple and fast equalization. Furthermore, a comparison of traditional methods and the HNFABC equalization is provided to show the performance of the converter and the control of lithium-based battery stacks.

  • This paper deals with a design of a bootstrap power supply using snubber energy regeneration, which is used to power a high-side gate driver of a half-bridge circuit. In the proposed circuit, the energy stored in the low-side snubber capacitor is transferred to the high-side bootstrap capacitor without any magnetic components. Thus, the power dissipation in the RCD snubber can be effectively reduced. The operation principle and design method of the proposed circuit are presented. The experimental results are also provided to show the validity of the proposed circuit.

  • This study proposes a novel isolated high step-up galvanic converter, which is suitable for renewable energy applications and integrates a boost converter, a coupled inductor, a charge pump capacitor cell, and an LC snubber. The proposed converter comprises an input inductor and thus features a continuous input current, which extends the life of the renewable energy chip. Furthermore, the proposed converter can achieve a high voltage gain without an extremely large duty cycle and turn ratio of the coupled inductor by using the charge pump capacitor cell. The leakage inductance energy can be recycled to the output capacitor of the boost converter via the LC snubber and then transferred to the output load. As a result, the voltage spike can be suppressed to a low voltage level. Finally, the basic operating principles and experimental results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.

  • In this paper, a control algorithm for a servo manipulator is focused on. A servo manipulator system has been developed for remotely handling radioactive materials in a hot cell. It is driven by servo motors. The torque from a servo motor is transferred through a reducer to the corresponding axis. The PID control algorithm is a simple and effective algorithm for such application. However, since friction degrades the algorithm's performance, friction has to be considered and compensated. The major aberrations are the positional tracking errors and the limit cycle. The authors have considered a switching term to a conventional PID algorithm to reduce the friction's effect. It has been tested by a hardware test.

  • In general, the thermo-diode is a device designed to allow heat to be transferred only in one direction. However, the bidirectional thermo-diode devised to change the heat flow in the desired direction can be used for the reduction of the heating load in winter as well as the cooling load in summer. In this study, a solar heating system using loop-type bidirectional thermo-diodes is designed and set up, also it is successfully applied to an outdoor test cell for the verification of its usefulness.

  • In the structures of automobiles and ships which have engines for works, the vibration energies generated by the engines are transferred to dissipation parts through the structures which is welded and bolted with beams and plates. The vibration energies generated by resonance frequencies are the reasons of the resonance phenomena. To solve these problems, up to the present, we have studied to avoid the resonance, and add the higher damping characteristics. However, we need to understand the structural energy flows, to design the structures clearly which have the characteristic of welding. The object of this study is to make differences clear in the characteristics of structures which have some welded part on an homogenous flat plate. In this investigation, we study the flows of structural vibration energy experimently, and then, some knowledge for dynamic structural design is obtained.

  • Isotopic analysis using thermal ionization mass spectrometry coupled with scanning electron microscopy (SEM-TIMS) was performed to determine the isotopic ratios of uranium contained in micro-particles in the 6th Nuclear Signatures Interlaboratory Measurement Evaluation Programme (NUSIMEP-6) sample. Elemental analysis by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) was conducted on uranium-bearing mirco-particles, which were transferred to rhenium filaments for TIMS loading using a micromanipulation system in a SEM. A multi-ion-counter system was utilized to detect the ion signals of the four isotopes of uranium simultaneously. The isotope ratios of uranium corrected by bracketing using a reference material showed excellent agreement with the certified values. The measurement accuracy for $n(^{234}U)/n(^{238}U)$ and (b) $n(^{235}U)/n(^{238}U)$ was 10% and 1%, respectively, which met the requirements for qalification for the NetWork of Analytical Laboratories (NWAL).

  • The remedial junction is found in the network of single walled carbon nanotubes after the irradiation of protons not only for the better mechanical strength but also for the higher property of electrical conductivity. The irradiated proton formed a beam transferred sufficient energy to change the sp2 structure of atomic carbon as much as damage of crystalline formation, however it is shown the cross bonding while recovery of structure. This improved network in 2-D atomic chain of carbon is expected to use in a critical part in space energy harvesting system related with the solar radiation.

  • In this paper, a micro-scale photovoltaic(PV) energy harvesting system is proposed where an MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) control is implemented using an energy distribution technique. Miniature PV cells output very low energy and low voltages, and thus, they cannot be used to directly power the MPPT controller. In the proposed system, a start-up circuit boosts an internal Vcp, and the boosted Vcp is used to operate the internal MPPT control block. When the Vcp reaches a predefined value, a detector circuit makes the start-up block turn off and provide a power converter with the energy from the PV cell. When the Vcp decreases such that the MPPT controller can not be operated, the energy transferred to the power converter is blocked and the start-up circuit is reactivated. In this way, the MPPT function is achieved by alternately operating the start-up circuit and the power converter using the energy distribution technique, and the harvested energy is transferred to a load through a PMU(Power Management Unit). The proposed circuit is designed in a 0.35um CMOS process and its functionality has been verified through extensive simulations. The designed chip area including pads is $1430um{\times}1110um$.

  • This research has looked into the treatment process of wood waste generated from industrial waste within the region and in order to modify the problem that may occurred during the mass balance were analyzed for development of suitable solid waste recycling network regionally. As as result, quite amount of wood waste are being transferred to another region, even though a treatment facility's capacity could bear the total amount of waste generated within the area. Although the wood waste could be treated locally, it is analyzed that amount of wood waste are being transferred due to inefficient and irrational processing system between regions. It is assumed that $CO_2$ generated and loss of unnecessary fuel cost from these inefficient system is quite a lot and in order to modify this disorganized system, it will not inevitable to treat the waste based on the characteristics of each regions. Also, the wood waste recycling system should be studied with the efficient, environmental friendly processing and delivering network by minimized transfer distance and local systemizing the waste treatment system.
