The gas-liquid mass transfer volumetric coefficients in gas-liquid agitated vessels with wire gauge impellers were measured to be compared with those in vessels with disk turbine and paddle impellers. Also mass transfer volumetric coefficients for disk turbine, paddle impeller and wire gauge impeller in cylindrical agitated vessel was measured over a wide range of Reynolds number from turbulent flow to transition regions. The effect of geometries on $k_La$ is clarified experimentally. Mass transfer volumetric coefficients $k_La$ depends only on the power consumption ($P_{gv}+P_{av}$) per unit volume.

Heat transfer characteristics of protruding electronic components in a horizontal channel are studied numerically. The system consists of two horizontal channels formed by two covers and one printed circuit board which has three uniform protruding heat source blocks. A two-dimensional numerical model has been developed to predict the conjugate heat transfer. and the finite volume method is used to solve the problem. Five different cooling methods are considered to examine the heat transfer characteristics of electronic components according to the different cooling methods. The velocity and temperature of cooling medium and the temperature of the heat source blocks are obtained. The results of the five different cooling methods are compared to find out the most efficient cooling method in a given geometry and heat sources.
In order to analyze the heat transfer phenomena in the plasma flames, a mathematical model describing heat and fluid How in an electric arc has been developed and used to predict heat transfer from the arc to the steel bath in a DC Electric Arc Furnace. The arc model takes the separate contributions to the heat transfer from each involved mechanism into account, i.e. radiation, convection and energy transported by electrons. The finite volume method and a SIMPLE algorithm are used for solving the governing MHD equations, i.e., conservation equations of mass, momentum, and energy together with the equations describing a standard $k-\varepsilon$ model for turbulence. The model predicts heat transfer for different currents and arc lengths. Finally these calculation results can be used as a useful insight into plasma phenomena of the industrial-scale electric arc furnace. from these results, it can be concluded that higher arc current and longer arc length give high heat transfer.

Recently, circulating liquid fluidized bed heat exchangers are widely used in a number of places - chemical, process, food concentration, waste water treatment facilities, etc. In a circulating heat exchanger, solid particles circulate with the liquid, thereby increase the heat transfer and reduce the fouling potential of the heat exchanger. In this study, glass beads were circulated through a vertical tube. The pressure loss and the heat transfer coefficient were measured. At low flow velocities, glass beads enhanced the heat transfer considerably. The enhancement increased as the volume fraction of the glass beads increased. It also increased as the particle diameter increased. The pressure loss showed a similar trend. From the observed particle behavior near tube wall, a possible explanation of the trend is provided.

The purpose of the present study is to examine the heat transfer characteristics of the U-shape heat pipe for the cooling of semiconductor in subway train. Perflouro-carbon(PFC) was used as working fluid. Temperature distribution on the surface and heat transfer coefficients were investigated according to the working fluid volume percent and heating rate. The results were as follows; Optimum volumetric percent of working fluid was from 80% to 90%, and hat transfer coefficients of evaporation and condensation were as follows, respectively. $\hbar_ie=0.37\times(\frac{P_i}{P_O})$l_c}^0.3$,$\hbar_ic-4.2(\frac{\kappa_l^3p_l^2gh_fg}{\mu_lq_c_l_c}^\frac{1}{3}

Porous media containing complex fluid passage have especially large surface area per unit volume. This study is aimed to identify the heat transfer characteristics of high-porosity metal foams in a horizontal channel. Experiment is performed under various heat flux, velocity and pore density. Nusselt number decreases with higher pore density. Metal foams shows higher heat transfer coefficients than pin-fin structure with the same porosity. This is due to the more complex flow passage and larger heat transfer area based on the structure of the metal foams. The analysis on the pin-fin structure may not be suitable to the metal foam structure but should be identified extensively through further study.

Many researches were carried out to estimate heat transfer rate on a circular cylinder in a uniform flow. Various empirical correlations were suggested in the past through experimental studies, however there are considerable discrepancies in the estimated values of heat transfer coefficient. The effect of fluid physical properties on the forced convective heat transfer between a circular cylinder and the external flow was numerically investigated in the present study, The flow and temperature fields were solved using a Finite Volume Method over a wider range of Prandtl number(0.7-40,000) than existing correlations. The cold as well as the hot cylinders in the uniform liquid flow of constant temperature were investigated. A unified correlation was obtainde for both cases.
The heat transfer characteristics of a turbulent flow in a ribbed two-dimensional channel have been investigated numerically. The fully elliptic governing equations, coupled with a four-equation turbulence model, $\kappa-\omega-\bar{t^2}-\epsilon_t$, are solved by a finite volume method of SIMPLE type. Calculations have been carried out for three rib cross-sections : square, triangular, and semicircular, with various rib pitches and Reynolds numbers. The procedure appears to be satisfactory as the results for the square rib compare favorably with available experimental data and earlier calculation. The optimal rib pitch that yields the maximum heat transfer has been identified. It is also found that the square rib is most effective in enhancing the heat transfer. The semicircular rib, on the other hand, incurs the least amount of pressure drop but the improvement in heat transfer is substantially lower.

An analysis is made of the laminar fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in a parallel-plate channel to whose walls are fitted with a series of equidistant staggered fins placed transversely to the flow direction. The governing equations are solved numerically by a finite-volume method for elliptic flows. Based on the obtained solutions of flow and temperature fields, the effects of Reynolds number and various geometric parameters on the heat transfer performance and pressure drop are evaluated. A comparson of the heat transfer characteristics between the channels with and without staggered fins is also made.
