A new model utilizing a transfer function is introduced in the present paper for analizing motion errors of hydrostatic tables. Relationship between film reaction force in a single hydrostatic pad and form error of a guide rail is derived at various spacial frequencies by finite element analysis, and it is expressed as a transfer function. This transfer function clarifies so called averaging effect of the oil film quantitively. For example, it is found that the amplitide of the film reaction farce is reduced as the spacial frequency increases or relative width of the pocket is reduced. Motion errors of a multiple pad table is estimated from transfer function, geomatric relationship between each pads and form errors of a guide rail, which is named as Transfer Function Method(TFM). Calculated motion errors by TFM show good agreement with motion errors calculated by Multi Pad Method, which is considered entire table as an analysis object. From the results, it is confirmed that the proposed TFM is very effective to analyze the motion errors of hydrostatic tables.

A new method using a transfer function is introduced in the present paper for analyzing the motion errors of hydrostatic bearing tables. The relationship between film reaction force in a single-side hydrostatic pad and the form error of guide rail is derived at various spatial frequencies by finite element analysis, and it is expressed as a transfer function. This transfer function clarifies so called 'the averaging effect of an oil film' quantitively. It is found that the amplitude of film force is reduced as the spatial frequency increases or the relative width of the pocket is reduced. The motion errors of a multi pad type table are estimated using a transfer function, the form errors of a guide rail and the geometric relationship between the pads. The method is named as the Transfer Function Method (TFM). The motion errors calculated by the TFM show good agreement with the motion errors calculated by the Multi Pad Method considering the entire table as an analysis object. From the results, it is confirmed that the proposed TFM is very effective to analyze the motion errors of hydrostatic tables.
The transfer function method is a widely used in the analysis of underwater radiated noise of ships because it is simple to implement and gives a simple way in the design stage requiring trade-off studies on various kinds of noise sources. In this study, a framework is implemented based on the transfer function method. The framework is interfaced to a software providing transfer functions of hull force to underwater radiated noise. The transfer function-based underwater radiated noise analysis approach is reviewed and the implemented framework structure is described. As an example, a numerical calculation of a virtual ship is carried out and its results are investigated in terms of applicability to real ship design project.
Fuel sloshing in a vehicle fuel tank generates a reluctant low frequency noise, called slosh noise. To reduce slosh noise, whilst many approaches have used the Computational Fluid Dynamics method to first identify fuel behavior in a fuel tank, this paper applies the Transfer Path Analysis method. It is to find contribution of each transfer path from noise transfer function, vibration transfer function and acceleration. Then the final goal is to attenuate slosh noise by controlling them. To this aim, two types of models are studied. One is the decoupled model in which some of connection points of the fuel tank with the vehicle underbody are separated. The other is the modified model which is created by changing noise transfer function and acceleration from the original model. The analysis and validation test results show that the transfer path analysis can be an approach to enhancing slosh noise.

This paper shows that a well-defined energy function can be developed to reflect the transfer conductances for multi-machine power systems under an assumption that all transmission lines have uniform R/X rations. The energy function is derived by introducing a pure reactive equivalent system for the given system. In this study, a static energy function reflecting transfer conductances is also derived as well as the transient energy function. The proposed static energy function is applied to voltage stability analysis and tested for various sample systems. The test results show that the accuracy of voltage stability analysis can be considerable improved by reflecting transfer conductances into the energy function.
In this paper, very simple methods based on the exponential analysis are presented by which transfer function models for processes can easily be obtained. These methods employ step responses or impulse responses of the processes. These can also give a more precise transfer function model compared to the well-known graphical methods. Transfer functions are determined based on Prony method, which is one of the oldest and the most representative methods in the exponential analysis. Here, the method is reformed and applied to obtain the so-called low-order transfer function with pure time delay from the data of the step response. The effectiveness of the proposed method is examined through several numerical examples and experiments of the 2-tank level control process.
Main purpose of the current paper is to show results of time lag analysis using phase information of flame transfer function in order to predict combustion instabilities in a gas turbine combustor. The flame transfer function (FTF) is modeled using a commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code (Fluent). Comparisons of the modeled flame shapes with the measured ones were made using the optimized heat transfer conditions and combustion models. The FTF modeling results show a quite good agreement with the measurement data in predicting the phase delay (i.e. time lag). Time lag analysis results using the phase of FTF shows better combustion instability prediction accuracy than using time lag calculated from the steady state flame length.
Flame transfer function is used to determine the relationship between flow fluctuations and heat release perturbations in a lean premixed gas turbine combustor. The characteristics of flame transfer function are known to depend greatly on flame geometries in addition to other various flow conditions. However, it is not easy to experimentally measure the flame transfer function under various actual combustor operating conditions in terms of time and cost. The current research tries to model the flame transfer function using CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics). From the results, it is shown that the calculated steady flame geometry can be exactly captured with consideration of the wall heat transfer and radiations. Also, unsteady analysis results show the close characteristics of the flame transfer function to the measured one in both gain and phase.
This paper aims for analyzing the vibration serviceability of train by simply expressing its vertical vibration when it passes a railway bridge. For this purpose, bridge-train transfer function was derived and bridge-train interaction analysis was performed by using the derived function. The bridge-train transfer function was developed with the assumption that train is a single mass-spring system, and bridge-train interaction analysis was performed on simple beams of KTX passenger car. The vertical acceleration signals of passenger cars obtained from bridge-train interaction analysis were compared with them of cars obtained from the bridge-train transfer function. As a result, it could be estimated to express the vertical vibration inside the passenger car required for vibration serviceability evaluation by using the vertical vibration of bridges obtained from moving load analysis. Therefore, it may be possible to evaluate the vibration serviceability of railway bridges considering bridge-train interaction effect.
