  • Among Filipino entertainers in Japan, trans women (transgender women) or transpinay (Filipino trans woman) entertainers remain understudied compared to cisgender women. Though the number of entertainers has declined, transpinay entertainers remain relevant as transgender issues continue to be salient globally. This study explains the gendered experiences of the transpinay migrants, particularly in entertainment work and their relationships, which are different from cisgender Filipino women entertainers' experiences. Using grounded theory and drawing on concepts of performativity in interactions to analyze the narratives of transpinay entertainers, I delve into how transpinay entertainers negotiate their gender and migrant identities as they establish professional and personal relationships. Moreover, the transpinays' entertainment work is a significant contributing factor to their sense of belonging in Japan, as they form relationships with colleagues, clients, and partners who support them and, thereby, sustain their lifestyles as trans women. The transpinay entertainers' flows of migration between Japan and the Philippines reveal that they embrace various aspects of social remittances and use them to their advantage to create and enhance their transpinay identity in Japan. By examining the transpinays' migrant experiences, this study aims to elucidate the gendered experiences of transpinay entertainers, which involve significant negotiations in their migration pathways notably different from cisgender Filipino women entertainers, reveal resilience.

  • Postcolonial critics have criticized Comparative Literature for exclusively studying literatures from the non-Western world through Western lenses. In other words, postcolonial criticism asserts that theorists and practitioners of comparative literature have traced the "assistance" of the classic "comparison and contrast" approach to an imperialist discourse, which sustains the superiority of Western cultures and economies. As a countermeasure to reading through the comparative lens, literary theories have offered a "juxtapositional model of comparison" that connects texts across cultures, places, and times. This paper examines practices of Comparative Literature in Vietnam, revealing how the engagement with decolonizing processes leads to a knowledge production that is paradoxically colonial. The paper also analyses implementations of this model in reading select Vietnamese works and highlights how conventional comparisons, largely based on historical influences and reception, maintain the colonial mapping of World Literature, centralizing Western, and more particularly, English Literature and in the process marginalizing the others. Therefore, the practice of juxtaposing Vietnamese literary works with canonical works of the World Literature will provoke dialogues and raise awareness of hitherto marginalized works to an international readership. In this process, the paper considers the contemporary interest of Comparative Literature practice in trans- national, trans-regional, trans-historical, and trans-cultural perspectives.

  • We propose a novel mechanism (Twist Sharing Mechanism) for the cis-trans photoisomerization of rhodopsin, based on the molecular dynamics (MD) simulation study. New things devised in our simulations are (1) the adoption of Mt. Fuji potentials in the excited state for twisting of the three bonds C9=C10, C11=C12 and C13=14 which are modeled using the detailed ab initio quantum chemical calculations and (2) to use the rhodopsin structure which was resolved recently by the X-ray crystallographic study. As a result, we found the followings: Due to the intramolecular steric hindrance between 20-methyl and 10-H in the retinal chromophore, the C12-C13 and C10-C11 bonds are considerably twisted counterclockwise in rhodopsin, allowing only counterclockwise rotation of the C11 =C12 in the excited state. The movement of 19-methyl in rhodopsin is blocked by the surrounding three amino acids, Thr 118, Met 207 and Tyr 268, prohibiting the rotation of C9=C10. As a result only all-trans form of the chromophore is obtainable as a photoproduct. At the 90$^{\circ}$ twisting of C11=C12 in the course of photoisomerization, twisting energies of the other bonds amount to about 20 kcal/mol. If the transition state for the thermal isomerization is assumed to be similar to this structure, the activation energy for the thermal isomerization around C11=C12'in rhodopsin is elevated by about 20 kcal/mol and the thermal isomerization rate is decelerated by 10$\^$-14/ times than that of the retinal chromophore in solution, protecting photosignal from the thermal noise.

  • Emission of methyl bromide(MeBr) of soil fumigant was implicated in stratospheric ozone depletion. To determine the environmental fate for 1,3-dichloropene(1,3-D) of alternatives fumigants for MeBr, this paper researched the transformation for 1,3-D in water and soil. Half lives of cis-1,3-D in water with first-order kinetics are 9.9day and 1.7day at $25^{\circ}C\;and\;40^{\circ}C$, half lives of trans-1,3-D are 8.6day and 1.5day at $25^{\circ}C\;and\;40^{\circ}C$, respectively. Transformation for 1,3-D in water at high temperature faster then at low temperature. Hydrolysis for 1,3-D in water are unaffected at $pH\;2.5{\sim}pH\;10.0$, but hydrolysis for 1,3-D at pH 11.5 higher then at $pH\;2.5{\sim}pH\;10.0$. Half lives of cis-1,3-D in soil are 11.5day and 7.7day at 3% and 10% of soil moisture, half lives of trans-1,3-D are 9.9day and 6.9day at 3% and 10% of soil moisture, respectively. Transformation for 1,3-D in water increased with increasing soil moisture. Transformation for trans-1,3-D isomer are more rapid then cis-1,3-D isomer in water and soil. This research has identified that transformation for 1,3-dichloropropene are affected by temperature, pH, soil moisture, and isomer of cis and trans in water and soil.

  • Reactions of $Rh(ClO_4)(CO)(AsPh_3)_2$ with unsaturated nitriles and aldehyde, L, produce a series of new cationic rhodium (I) complexes, $[RhL(CO)(AsPh_3)_2]ClO_4$ (L = $CH_2$ = CHCN, $CH_2$ = C($CH_3$)CN, trans-$CH_3CH$ = CHCN, $CH_2$ = CH$CH_2$CN, trans-$C_6H_5CH$ = CHCN, and trans-$C_6H_5CH$ = CHCHD) where L are coordinated through the nitrogen and oxygen, respectively but not through the ${\pi}$-system of the olefinic group. Dissociation constants for the reaction, $[RhL(CO)(AsPh_3)_2]ClO_4$ $\rightleftharpoons$ $Rh(ClO_4)(CO)(AsPh_3)_2$ + L, have been measured to be $1.20{\times}10^{-4}$ M (L = $CH_2$ = CHCN), $1.05{\times}10^{-4}$ M (L = $CH_2$ = C($CH_3$)CN, $3.26{\times}10^{-5}$ M (L = trans-$CH_3$CH = CHCN) and $6.45{\times}10^{-5}$ M (L = $CH_2$ = CH$CH_2$CN) in chlorobenzene at $25^{\circ}C, and higher than those of triphenylphosphine complexes, $[RhL(CO)(AsPh_3)_2]ClO_4$ where L are the corresponding nitriles that are coordinated through the nitrogen atom. The differences in dissociation constants seem to be predominantly due to the differences in ${\Delta}H$ (not due to the differences in ${\Delta}S$). The weaker Rh-N (unsaturated nitriles) bonding in $AsPh_3$ complexes than in $PPh_3$ complexes (based on ${\Delta}H$ values) suggests that the unsaturated nitriles in 2∼5 are good ${\sigma}$-donor and poor ${\pi}$-acceptor.

  • We study a lightlike hypersurface M of an indefinite nearly trans-Sasakian manifold ${\bar{M}}$ with an (ℓ, m)-type connection such that the structure vector field ζ of ${\bar{M}}$ is tangent to M. In particular, we focus on such lightlike hypersurfaces M for which the structure tensor field F is either recurrent or Lie recurrent, or such that M itself is totally umbilical or screen totally umbilical.

  • Trans-cinnamic acid-4-hydroxylase(tC4H) is the first cytochrome P450-dependent monooxygenase of the phenylpropanoid pathway. The roots of avocado seedlings were wounded and examined to determine whether the tC4H would be activated in response to wounding and/or whether tC4H activity be modulated by the application of exogenous p-coumarate. At the specified length of times, the wounded and treated roots were either frozen in liquid nitrogen or used immediately to extract microsomal proteins. The microsomal proteins were subjected to immunoblot analysis using polyclonal antibodies against CYP73 of tC4H gene. In this study, tC4H was induced in wounded roots sealed in bags within 6 hours, and in low level({TEX}$10^{-8}${/TEX}M) of p-coumarate solution within 24 hours, whereas the olution without p-coumarate and high levels of p-coumarate solution repressed tC4H induction in wounded roots. These results indicate that tC4H is induced by wounding in the root of avocado, and is inhibited by the application of exogenous p-coumarate.

  • Two mega-regional negotiations are changing the landscape of Asia Pacific trade policy: an Asian track centered on ASEAN (the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership or RCEP), and a Trans-Pacific track centered on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) among 12 economies, including the United States, which Korea is expected to join. Modeling results suggest that both would generate substantial benefits for Korea and the global economy. From Korea's viewpoint, the agreements would establish new FTAs with China, Japan and smaller economies, improve the utilization of FTAs by permitting the regional cumulation of inputs, and help to upgrade some Korean FTAs to more rigorous standards. By participating in these agreements, Korea could also help to guide them toward inclusive, high-quality regional outcomes. As one of the region's most open and agile economies, Korea has a large stake in regional integration and would be well advised to pursue both tracks.
