PURPOSES: Speeding is often the primary contributor to fatal crashes. Surprisingly, driving behaviors are indirectly affected by personal factors such as law-abidance, risk sensitivity, and situational adaptability. This research aims to verify the effectiveness of pavement markings at reducing the speeds of high-risk drivers. The purpose of this study is to establish how drivers (including law-abiding or law-breaking, high-risk or low-risk) react to different pavement markings in a driving simulator. METHODS: The five different pavement markings were selected from markings used in other nations. The forty-two drivers were then surveyed, via questionnaires, and placed into the corresponding groups. Finally, statistical analysis was conducted to determine the extent of speed reduction for each pavement marking. RESULTS: Higher speeds were linked to the high-risk drivers. Furthermore, after analysis of the mean difference of average speeds by pavement marking, it was determined that Dragon's Teeth had the greatest speed reducing effect on these drivers. CONCLUSIONS: Perceptual countermeasures are unlikely to strongly affect high-risk drivers' perception of speed on the curves. This statistically demonstrates that Dragon's Teeth have a subtle effect on reducing speeds in the driving simulator. This study's significance lies in the improved understanding of high-risk drivers in terms of road facilities. It approaches the effects of various patterns of pavement markings for high-risk drivers.

Objectives : This study aims to evaluate current clinical evidence of acupuncture treatment for rehabilitation in patients with traffic accident in South Korea. Methods : Seven Korean databases were searched for prospective clinical trials for acupuncture on rehabilitation in patients with traffic accident from their inception to June, 2009. Only studies conducted in Korean language were searched. Risk of bias in included randomized controlled trials were assessed by Cochrane Handbook procedure. Results : Fifteen clinical trials were included among 31 studies searched. Eight were observational studies, five were non-randomizedcontrolled trials, and two were randomized controlled trials. In all of included studies, acupuncture were conducted with other concomitant treatment. Included studies dealt with such conditions as neck pain, low back pain tinnitus after traffic accident, post-traumatic stress, oculomotor nerve palsy, diplopia and insomnia. All of included studies reported favorable effects of acupuncture group compared to baseline or control group. All of included studies lacked the occurrence of adverse events. High risk of bias were observed in two randomized controlled trials. Conclusions : There is no evidence that acupuncture is effective for rehabilitation of traffic accident. All of included studies lacked appropriate methodological qualities and internal validity. Future welldesigned clinical trials that evaluate the effects and safety of acupuncture treatment for rehabilitation in patients with traffic accident is needed.

Objectives To investigate the effectiveness of manual therapy for neck pain caused by traffic accidents. Methods We searched six electronic databases (OASIS, KISS, RISS, NDSL, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library) to gather randomized controlled trials using the keywords 'manual theray OR chuna OR tuina' and 'whiplash injury OR neck sprain'. Results Eight RCTs were selected based on the inclusion criteria. Four studies were meta-analyses. The systematic review found a positive effect of manual therapy for whiplash injury. All studies showed a high risk of performance bias. Conclusions The systematic review reported favorable results using manual therapy for neck pain caused by traffic accidents. However, this study has several limitations owing to the high risk of bias. Further clinical studies and the development of a study design are required for stronger evidence.

In the decision of a collision avoidance action for navigators and intellignet ships, it is necessary to evaluate the degree of surrounding risks effectively. We propose the new risk evaluation technique in two dimensions using Even Risk Contour on the basis of the concept of contour line. In this paper, we introduce the algorithms ofERC and Approach Velocity(AV) and show their application for avoiding traffic collision at sea.

As invigoration plan of the marine tourism, Busan City has the plan to operate the cruise ship inside of the harbor, but the area has narrow water way with heavy traffic. As a result it is requested to evaluate the safety for the preparation of actual navigation. In this study, the Ship Handling Simulation (SHS) Assessment was conducted, which is regulated by the Maritime Traffic Safety Audit Scheme (MTSAS) in compliance with the Marine Safety Law and the Maritime Traffic Risk Assessment System based on the Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS). The proximity assessment, control assessment and subjective assessment were implemented, which is enacted by the Marine Safety Law by using the SHS. In the case of proximity assessment, the probability of trespass was not analyzed. As the control assessment, the swept path was measured at 11.7 m and 11.5 m for port entry and port departure respectively, which exceeded the width of the model vessel, 10.4 m over; it was considered as a marginal factor. As a result of the subjective evaluation of the navigator, there would be no difficulty on ship maneuvering by paying particular attention to the mooring vessel nearby the Busan Bridge and Yeongdo Bridge as well as the coming vessel from the invisible sea area when the vessel is entering and departing the port. The Marine Traffic Risk Assessment System analyzed as [Cautious] level until the vessel passed the Busan bridge and the curved area at 5 kts and it became to [Dangerous] level from where it left 75 m to the Busan Bridge. When the vessel passed the Busan Bridge and the curved area at 10 kts and entered the narrow area, it indicated the [Dangerous] level and became to [Very dangerous] level from where it left 410 m to the Busan bridge. In conclusion, the vessel should maintain at the speed of 5 kts to reduce the risk when it passes this area.

Owing to advancements in intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and artificial-intelligence technologies, various machine-learning models can be employed to simulate and predict the number of traffic accidents under different weather conditions. Furthermore, we can analyze the relationship between weather and traffic accidents, allowing us to assess whether the current weather conditions are suitable for travel, which can significantly reduce the risk of traffic accidents. In this study, we analyzed 30000 traffic flow data points collected by traffic cameras at nearby intersections in Washington, D.C., USA from October 2012 to May 2017, using Pearson's heat map. We then predicted, analyzed, and compared the performance of the correlation between continuous features by applying several machine-learning algorithms commonly used in ITS, including random forest, decision tree, gradient-boosting regression, and support vector regression. The experimental results indicated that the gradient-boosting regression machine-learning model had the best performance.

This study examined challenges posed by two ferry routes, namely, Likoni and Mtongwe crossings, in the Mombasa Channel and their impact on navigational safety. Utilizing the Environmental Stress (ES) model, this study analyzed current ship traffic and assessed stress levels imposed by ferry crossing traffic on navigators. ES values revealed significant stress at these ferry crossings attributed to varying transit speeds. Standardizing transit speeds at two ferry passages can reduce high stress levels, presenting a viable solution. Furthermore, the IWRAP Mk2 simulation underscores crossing collisions as a significant concern, particularly at Likoni and Mtongwe crossings, due to increased ferry traffic. This research offers valuable insights for stakeholders, such as the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), to develop targeted safety measures and enhance the flow of ship traffic in the channel.
Busan New Port manages the largest volume of traffic among Korean ports, and accounts for 68.5% of the total volume of the Busan port. Due to this increase in volume, ultra large container ships call at Busan New Port. When the additional south container terminal as well as ongoing construction project of the west container terminal are completed, various encounters may occur at the Busan New Port entrance, which may cause collision risk.s Thus, the purpose of this study was to provide a plan to improve the safety of vessel traffic, in the in/out bound fairway of Busan New Port. For this purpose, the status of arrivals and departures of vessels in Busan New Port, was examined through maritime traffic flow analysis. Additionally, risk factors and safety measures were identified, by AHP analysis with ship operators of the study area. Also, based on the derived safety measures, scenarios were set using the Environmental Stress model (ES model), and the traffic risk level of each safety measure was identified through simulation. As a result, it is expected that setting the no entry area for one-way traffic would have a significant effect on mitigating risks at the Busan New Port entrance. This study can serve as a basis for preparing safety measures, to improve the navigation of vessels using Busan New Port. If safety measures are prepared in the future, it is necessary to verify the safety by using the traffic volume and flow changes according to the newly-opened berths.
