  • This case report that the therapeutic effects of traditional Korean medicine(TKM) treatment on the tumor response in a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBL) patient. A patient was treated by acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, moxibustion, cupping and herbal medicine once a week at least for 12 months. we evaluated the grade of chief complaints and performed blood tests and sonography, abdominal CT periodically. After 1 month administration with TKM treatment, the symptoms of the patient vanished obviously. the size of inguinal lymphoma decreased gradually through 3 months. then from 3 to 10 months, the size of inguinal lymphoma remained as it is. TKM treatment was maintained continuously. in the abdomino-pelvic CT performed after 12 months, the patient didn't complain any symptom and the size of inguinal lymphoma decreased a little again. This case study supports that TKM treatments may have a efficacy in treating diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBL) patients.

  • Pulse diagnosis is one of the typical examination methods in traditional oriental medicine. Pulse type classification is a major element of this diagnosis. There are more than 20 pulse types which have each clinical significance. However, pulse type's indications are implicative and obscure. In this study, we reviewed string pulse which is often diagnosed in Traditional Korean Medicine by analysis of Traditional Oriental Medical Literatures and modern medical papers. String pulse is taut and stiff pulse with high tension and low softness. It appears in 'blood vessel endothelial dysfunction', 'autonomic imbalance', 'arteriosclerosis'. Persistent string pulse can bring about cardiovascular or central nervous disease.

  • It is different from the DongEuiBoGam(東醫寶鑑) of Korea traditional medicine that China BeunJungLonChi(中醫辨證論治) was made for the scientific and systematic assortment of China medicine. Symptom(症)is more important than symptom complex(證)in china BeunJungLonChi at DonEuBoGam. And unusual symptoms generally are diseases in DongEuiBoGam. DongEuiBoGam is emphasis on body form, temper, body color, pulse(形氣色脈) and the functional difference of organs by body form and body color. there are many problems in order to unify the theory of Korea traditional medicine by china BeunJungLonChi. I suggest that a new assortment that can combine Sasang constitutional medicine(四象醫學), Constitution-Acupuncture(體質針), and Hyungsang medicine(四象醫學) will be necessary. BeunJungLonChi : diagnosis and treatment based on overall analysis of symptoms and signs, the cause, nature and location of the illness and the patient's physical condition according to the basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine

  • Here we describe a case of lamivudine and entecavir resistant chronic hepatitis B, treated with western medicine plus traditional korean medicine combination therapy. We administered Injinchunggan-Tang(茵蔯淸肝湯), a traditional Korean herb remedy, with entecavir to a 45-year-old chronic hepatitis B patient who didn't have achieved HBV-DNA suppression, in spite of 18 month lamivudine mono therapy and 14 month entecavir mono therapy. HBV-DNA decreased more than one thousandth from 98,100 IU/mL to 53 IU/mL just in 23 days, and resultingly it seems that the combination therapy could be very potent, at least to some chronic hepatitis B patients.

  • The objectives of this study were to examine the present state of Oriental clinical service based on Constitutional medicine and to make an accurate estimate of it's scale in 2015. The data for this study were collected from a questionnaire survey to 335 Traditional Korean Medical doctors who were selected as random samples. And this questionnaire is consist of several inquiries related with management and application of constitutional medicine. The 38.8% facilities of all Oriental medical centers and Clinics in the whole country are applying Constitutional medicine for treating patients. The 8,870 persons in all health workers are engaged in Constitutional clinical service. The proportion of sales by Constitutional clinical services to the total sales by Traditional clinical service is 26.6% in 2007. The proportion of application to medical care insurance by Constitutional clinical service is 21.6% of all amounts. After taking these results into consideration, the sales of Constitutional clinical service now are estimated to make up 26.6% percent of the total traditional medical service and the amount of it's sales in 2015 is expected to increase up to 2.8 times as much as the current quantity.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the reliability and validity of the questionnaire of pattern identification (PI) in traditional chinese medicine (TCM), through the systematic review of china national knowledge infrastructure (CNKI) database. We searched the articles related with reliability and validity of the questionnaire of PI and published from January 1994 to December 2013. Seventeen questionnaires were analyzed in this study. The twelve (70.6%) questionnaires were developed on the base of specific disease, and five (29.4%) ones were developed on the base of non-specific disease. Three of PI questionnaires showed low inter-item consistency reliability. Exploratory factor analysis of construct validity, content validity, and criterion validity analysis were commonly used on the assessment of validity, but none of them was analysed at the same study. There was only one questionnaire of the ischemic stroke that examined the sensitivity and specificity of both training and test groups in spite of the absence of a gold standard.

  • This study was to develop experiment and practice curriculum for the Visceral Manifestation and Life Nurturing with traditional Korean psychobiology and Sasang medicine in School of Korean Medicine, Pusan National University. The required items for the 4-hour program such as objectives, contents and tools, and evaluation methods were described in details with the reference of standardized planning forms. The response of students to the 4-hour long program showed responses with high satisfaction ($8.11{\pm}1.06$), high interest ($8.57{\pm}1.07$) and low difficult ($5.16{\pm}1.22$). The students suggested to increase allocated time for lecture and discussion/presentation. We discussed the importance of systematic establishment and development of experiment and practice curriculum in Korean Medicine education. Since this program has usefulness for understanding of the tools for Korean psychobiology and Sasang medicine, it can be used for the establishment of evidence-based teaching programs with research data for the Korean medicine in the near future.

  • Traditional Korean medicine (TKM) takes a holistic view that emphasizes the balance between the elements constituting the human body or between the human body and the external environment. To investigate the holistic properties of TKM, here we propose to apply the methodology of complexity science to the TKM research. Complexity science is a discipline for studying complex systems with interactions between components that raise the behaviour as a whole which can be more than the sum of their parts. We first provide an introduction to the complexity science and its research methods, particularly focusing on network science and data science approaches. Next, we briefly present the current status of TKM research employing these methods. Finally, we provide suggestions for future research elucidating the underlying mechanism of TKM, both in terms of biomedicine and humanities.

  • The development of new investigative technology and the changing roles of other biological and medical disciplines will result in major changes in the way veterinary pathology is practiced in the future. Unless the pathologists strategically prepare themselves to adopt and incorporate these changes into their modest operandi, the veterinary pathologist's traditional dominance in the diagnosis of spontaneous animal diseases and experimentally induced lesions in animals will be at risk. Although the distinguishing feature of pathologist is their artful ability to read and interpret the pathologic changes of cells and tissues, we must strive to enhance and expand our ability beyond and above the simple reading of H&E stained slides. Also, we must be prepared to meet the ever increasing demand of diagnostic accuracy and timeliness. To do so, we have to employ the new biological and toxicological technologies into our routine. • During the last decade the role of minimally invasive surgery has been increased, especially with the introduction of the robotic system in the surgical field. The most important advantages of robotic system are represented by the wristed instrumentation and the depth perception, which can overcome the limitation of traditional thoracoscopy. However, some data still exist in literature with regard to robotic lobectomy. The majority of papers are focused on its safety and feasibility, but further studies with long follow-ups are necessary in order to assess the oncologic outcomes. We reviewed the literature on robotic lobectomy, with the main aim to better define the role of robotic system in the clinical practice.
