  • LOM (Laminated Object Manufacturing) process is one of rapid prototyping processes, where shapes are formed by accumulating cross sections of laser-cut paper. The process expects wide popularity since it is simple and the material is familiar to conventional mockup makers. However the dimensional accuracy of LOM parts is not so good as that of traditional wooden mockups, since the stack of adhesive-spread papers causes significant dimensional error. Also it is unclear how the other unknown environmental effects cause the errors as well. In this work the dimensional errors of LOM parts are measured and analysed. Experiments with test parts were performed in order to see the effects of part shape, moist, and sealer on dimensional variations. The characteristic of the paper is also analysed. Re-heating LOM parts, which is shown to have the effect of recovering dimensional changes, is applied to an example part.

  • A new slab design using secant stiffness, Direct Inelastic Slab Design, was developed. Since basically the proposed design method uses linear analysis, it is convenient and stable in numerical analysis. At the same time, the proposed design method can accurately estimate the inelastic strength and ductility demands of slab because it can analyzes the inelastic behavior of structure using iterative calculations for secant stiffness. In the present study, the procedure of the proposed design method was established, and a computer program incorporating the proposed method was developed. Design examples using the proposed method were presented, and compared with traditional nonlinear analysis, and experiments. The Direct Inelastic Slab Design, as an integrated analysis/design method, can directly address the design strategy intended by the engineer, such as moment strength and ductility limit. As a result, economical and safe design can be achieved.

  • Conventional filters using email header and body information equally judge whether an incoming email is spam or not. However this is unrealistic in everyday life because each person has different criteria to judge what is spam or not. To resolve this problem, we consider user preference information as well as email category information derived from the email content. In this paper, we have developed a personalized anti-spam system using ontologies constructed from rules derived in a data mining process. The reason why traditional content-based filters are not applicable to the proposed experimental situation is described. In also, several experiments constructing classifiers to decide email category and comparing classification rule learners are performed. Especially, an ID3 decision tree algorithm improved the overall accuracy around 17% compared to a conventional SVM text miner on the decision of email category. Some discussions about the axioms generated from the experimental dataset are given too.

  • Recently, there are many communication softwares based on text on various smart devices. Unlike traditional print publishing, mobile publishing and SNS tools tends to utilize more decorative or more emotional fonts so that users can pass some feelings from contents. So font providers have released new fonts which deal with the requirements of the market. Nevertheless being released lots of new fonts, general users have not used them because they searched only by font name or font provider's name. It means that there is no way for users to know and find new things. In this study, we suggest font shape classification rules for font registration system based on font design features. We proved the validity of classification standard study through some experiments with 50 commercial fonts. Also the result of this study was provided for Korea Telecommunication Technology Association and adopted by the Korea industrial standard.

  • In this paper, we propose a new scheme of motion tracking based on fuzzy inference (Fl) and wavelet transform (WT) from image sequences. First, we present a WT to segment a feature extraction of dynamic image . The coefficient matrix for 2-level DWT tent to be clustered around the location of Important features in the images, such as edge discontinuities, peaks, and corners. But these features are time varying owing to the environment conditions. Second, to reduce the spatio-temperal error, We develop a fuzzy inference algorithm. Some experiments are performed 0 testify the validity and applicability of the proposed system As a result, proposed method is relatively simple compared with the traditional space domain method. It is also well suited for motion tracking under the conditions of variation of illumination.

  • This paper describes a multi-constrained university timetabling problem that is a one of the field of artificial intelligent research area. For this problem, we propose the 2type edge graph that is can be represented time-conflict and day-conflict constraints simultaneously. The genetic algorithms are devised and considered for it. And we describe a method of local search in traditional random operator for its search efficiency. In computational experiments, the solutions of proposed method are average 71% costs that ware compared with solutions of random method in 10,000 iterations.

  • Traditional clustering is regarded as an unsupervised teaming to analyze unlabeled data. Semi-supervised clustering uses a small amount of labeled data to predict labels of unlabeled data as well as to improve clustering performance. Previous methods use constraints generated from available labeled data in clustering process. We propose a new constraint-based semi-supervised clustering method by reflecting initial predicted labels of unlabeled data. We evaluate and compare the performance of the proposed method in terms of classification errors through numerical experiments with blinded labeled data.

  • Piezoelectric materials have been investigated as vibration energy converters to power wireless devices or MEMS devices due to the recent low power requirements of such devices and the advancement in miniaturization technology. Piezoelectric power generation can be an alternative to the traditional power source-battery because of the presence of facile vibration sources in our environment and the potential elimination of the maintenance required for large volume batteries. This paper represents the new power source which supplies energy device node. This system, called "energy harvesting system", with piezo materials scavenges extra energy such as vibration and acceleration from the environment. Then it converts the mechanical energy scavenged to electrical energy for powering device This paper explains the properties of piezo material through theoretical analysis and experiments The developed system provides a solution to overcome the critical problem of making up wireless device networks.

  • Unlike the traditional view, it is not mysterious about how G. Mendel chose the seven characters of the pea, Pisum sativum, that he studied. He first chose the pea that met three conditions he set up and repeated experiments for two years. Apparently, he knew that those characters were controlled by countable elements. Then, he derived the prediction on the basis of his idea about the elements, and selected the seven characters that satisfied the prediction. He knew "no prediction no science". In population genetics the Hardy-Weinberg principle is well known and cited in many papers and books. However, Mendel already derived the same principle in his paper, because he was acquainted also with physics and mathematics. Actually, the principle was trivial when they derived, but not at all when Mendel did. It is also well known that Mendel's laws were forgotten and rediscovered at the term of the 19th century. That may not be true either. His laws were internationally well known before the rediscovery. In fact, the 1881-year version of the Encyclopedia Britannica contains his laws.

  • This paper presents the development of a system with a reverse matrix converter (RMC) for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive and its effective control method. The voltage transfer ratio of the general matrix converter is restricted to a maximum value of 0.866, which is not suitable for applications whose source voltages are lower than the load voltages. The proposed RMC topology can step up the voltage without any additional components in the conventional circuit. Its control method is different from traditional matrix converter’s one, thus this paper proposes control schemes of RMC by means of controlling both the generator and motor side currents with properly designed control loop. The converter can have sinusoidal input/output current waveforms in steady state condition as well as a boosted voltage. In this paper, a hardware system with an RMC for a PMSM drive system is described. The performance of the system was investigated through experiments
