  • Switched Reluctance Generator attracts much attention because of high efficiency, simple controllability with traction drive. But the theories that have been adopted as SRG control methods are complicated up to the present. This paper proposes reference current limitation strategy for stable generation and switching angle control in motoring mode. The proposed method is verified by simulation and experiments.

  • In this paper it is proposed an advanced modified sliding mode control of a rotor field oriented control of induction motor. The application of this unconventional control has very good results, such as disturbance rejection and nice dynamic properties. Stability can be guaranteed even in the worst situation. A conventional "sliding mode" controller is characterised by fast switching control signal, which causes the chattering of the drive system. To overcome this problem, a modified law is used, by introducing a hysteresis band and a continuous control, which modifies the conventional law. The control is accomplished with dual TMS320C44 floating-point digital signal processor. The validity of the proposed method was verified by experiment on the propulsion system simulator, used for the development of Korean High-Speed Railway Train(KHSRT).in(KHSRT).

  • This paper analyzes the performance of two three-leg inverters and a five-leg inverter and proposes the optimal operation conditions in applying the five-leg inverter for the train propulsion system. The five-leg inverter offers a saving of two switches compared with the standard two three-leg inverters and it is possible to control two three-phase motors independently by using a control board. All of these features lead to a potential reduction in capital cost and miniaturization of system. In this paper, first, the analysis of the existing motor control method and PWM method for two-traction motor drive of urban railway is implemented. Next, the operation principle and performance of five-leg inverter is introduced. Through the analysis, when it applies the same motor control method and the same PWM method for three-leg inverter and five-leg inverter, the characteristic of motor's speed and torque is compared.

  • This paper proposes a new control scheme for the power factor improvement of DC power regenerating systems, which can regenerate the excessive DC power from DC bus line to AC supply in substations for traction systems. From the viewpoint of both power capacity and switching losses, the system is designed on the basis of three-phase square-wave inverters and composed of two inverters, zig-zag connected output transformers, and an AC filter. The output voltages of the regenerating system are not sinusoidal. However, regenerated complex power is analyzed on the basis of fundamental components and thus the reactive power produced by harmonics is not considered. Therefore, it is needed a new control scheme capable of controlling the reactive power nearly to zero even for nonsinusoidal cases. To verify the validity of the proposed control scheme, computer simulations are carried out. And the results show that the power factor is theoretically higher than 0.99.

  • Starting from a new dynamic system description novel synchronous machine deterministic observers are proposed. Reduced and full order adaptive observer variations are presented. Based on the feedback linearization control law and the use of deterministic observer a novel control system is built. It meets the requirements of high performance tracking system. Adaptivity to stator and rotor resistance and the torque sensorless application is included. The comparison of the proposed novel control with conventional linear and nonlinear control systems is discussed. The given simulational study includes complete drive system integration.

  • A shift control algorithm of a newly developed two-speed gear shift system is proposed for electric vehicle applications. The algorithm is formulated according to the motor torque map and optimized to obtain the adequate propulsion characteristics for vehicle. Two speed gear system with shift control algorithm has proved greater efficiencies in terms of energy economy with its simplified hardware and software structures. The gear shifting is designed to be carried out by an actuator and the control signal from a vehicle control unit equipped with $\mu$-processor. The results of performances and efficiency of the algorithm by simulation and vehicle test are described.

  • The unmanned vehicle is composed of three parts the front & side sensor system for keeping the lane and avoiding obstacles, the acceleration & brake control system for longitudinal motion control, and the steering control system for the lateral motion control. Each system helps the unmanned vehicle of which should take notice of its location and recognize obstacles around the place by itself and make a decision how much fast to proceed according to circumstances. During the operation, the control strategy that the vehicle can detect obstacles and avoid collision on the road involves with vehicle velocity very much. Therefore, We have to define a traction system which is powered by DC motor so that, unmanned vehicle can control its velocity accurately. In this study, we find mechanical and ...

  • Permanent magnet synchronous motors are mainly used in the traction of electric vehicle and home application products including air-conditioners and refrigerators. For sensorless control without rotor position sensors, I-F control is applied for initial starting at low speeds, and mode is changed to sensorless control when the rotor speed is sufficiently accelerated for estimating rotor position. When the mode is changed to the sensorless control from the open-loop starting, the initial integral value of the speed controller should be considered by load condition; otherwise, the transition to sensorless control may fail. The sensorless transfer algorithm of PM synchronous motor based on load condition for smooth transition is proposed. The performance of the proposed sensorless transfer algorithm was verified by experiments.

  • Accurate and quick positioning of the throttle valve in driving situation is required to implement the Traction Control System(TCS). Also, unlike a conventional throttle valve which is connected to the accelerator directly by a wire, an Electronic Throttle Valve(ETV) is driven by a DC motor and can move dependently upon the accurate position of the accelerator. In the research, the Electronic Throttle Body(ETB) and Controller for TCS application was developed. In order to drive the DC motor, the developed controller was built and interfaced to the ECU and ETB. The PID position control algorism and developed systems are designed to realize the robust tracking control of the ETV. Actual vehicle tests with these systems and PID position control algorithm. Finally, the performance of the proposed those are evaluated with the experimental studies.

  • Traction control systems(TCS) improve vehicle acceleration performance and stability, particularly on slippery roads through engine torque and/or brake torque control. This research mainly deals with the engine control algorithm based on adjustment of the engine throttle valve opening. Hardware-in-the-loop simulation(HWILS) is carried out where the actual hardware is used for the engine/automatic transmission and TCS controller, while various vehicle dynamics are simulated on real-time basis. Also, use of the dynamometer is made in order to implement the tractive force that a road applies to the tire. Although some restrictions are imposed mainly due to the capability of the synamometer, simplified HWILS results show that the slip control algorithm can improve the vehicle acceleration performance for low-friction roads.
