  • The tracking antenna system must be always pointed to target moving vehicle. Especially, for an antenna mounted on a movable vehicle, it needs the stabilized antenna system. In this paper, two types of fuzzy controller were derived and applied to a data link antenna system and the altitude control of unmanned helicopter, respectively. A simplified Fuzzy-PID controller was designed for 2-axes antenna stabilization and tracking system and the performance was verified by simulations and experiments. Computer simulations were performed by Matlab and SIMULINK. A 2-Axes antenna (SeaTel 1898 model) was selected as test platform of this research. The antenna was modified by using two Blushless Direct Current motors and an embedded DSP controller. To verify the performance of designed antenna servo control system, the performance of the conventional PID controller and that of the Fuzzy-PID controller, designed by the same PID control gains, were compared.

  • This paper presents the development of development of stabilization and tracking algorithms for a shipboard satellite antenna system. In order to stabilize the satellite antenna system designed in the previous work, a model for each control axis is derived and its parameters are estimated using a genetic algorithm, and the state feedback controller is designed based on the linearized model. Then a tracking algorithm is derived to overcome some drawbacks of the step tracking. The proposed algorithm searches for the best position using gradient-based formulae and signal intensities measured according to a search pattern. The effectiveness of both the stabilization and tracking algorithms is demonstrated through experiment using real-world data.

  • The tracking antenna must always point to track moving vehicle for data link. In this paper, we determine pointing angle from the geometric relationship of antenna and UAV(Unmaned Aerial Vehicle) to let an antenna be toward a moving vehicle. The pointing angle of antenna is set through GPS measurement data installed in antenna and UAV. We verify the performance of this system from the fixing a camcoder on the antenna.

  • Antenna Tracking System has been required core technology with special tracking algorithm, and it can be achieved by program tracking, step tracking, optracking, and monopulse tracking as well. Depend on tracking requirement we might be able to apply eligible tracking method in accordance with Geostationary and Inclined Orbit Satellite. Further, we should deeply consider two important factors in order to act up to customer expectation in quality and system performance including competitive price therefore we need maximized endeavor to upgrade not only tracking system performance, but reduction of product through engineering skill and R&D investment.

  • In order to communicate with a ground station, the tracking profile design problem for a directional antenna system is considered. Because the motions of the gimbal angles in the antenna system affect the image quality, the main object is to minimize the motion of the gimbal angles during the satellite's imaging phase. For this goal, parameter optimization problems in the imaging and maneuver phases are formulated separately in the body-frame, and solved sequentially. Also, several mechanical constraints, such as the limitation of the gimbal angle and rate, are considered in the problems. The tracking profiles of the gimbal angles in the maneuver phases are designed with N-th order polynomials, to continuously connect the tracking profiles between two imaging phases. The results confirm that if the vector trace of the desired antenna-pointing vector is within the antenna's beam-width angle, motions of the gimbal angles are not required in the corresponding imaging phase. Also, through numerical examples, it is shown that motion of the gimbal angles in the imaging phase can be minimized by the proposed design process.

  • The outdoor antenna servo system is subject to has significant torque disturbances from wind pressures and gusts on the antenna structures, as well as bearing and aerodynamic frictions. This control system should provide a sharp directivity in spite of the environmental disturbances and internal uncertainties. Therefore, the implementation of a real-time controller is necessary for the precise generation of the reference signal and robust tracking performance. In this paper, the discrete-time controller for the quick tracking of a target communication satellite is designed by applying the sampled-data $H_{\infty}$ control theory along with the reference signal generated by an improved conventional step-tracking algorithm. The sampled-data $H_{\infty}$controller demonstrates superior robustness for the longer sampling period when compared with a simple PID controller.

  • This paper describes a performance of a satellite tracking antenna control system for mobile DBS reception. In order to improve the tracking speed and the stability of this system, a directional sensor function is added to a conventional left-right tracking algorithm. The satellite tracking experiments of the fabricated antenna system for the DBS reception were performed at a highway and an urban area. The measured AGC signal level on the highway was observed above the level to watch television. Therefore, an excellent performance of the hardware system with the tracking algorithm compensated for the directional sensor was confirmed.

  • This paper proposes a wireless LAN antenna system that tracks an object automatically by using image-based tracking. The proposed system consists of a camera and a pan-tilt unit in addition to a directional wireless LAN antenna. The camera and the directional antenna are set in same direction and they are set on the pan-tilt unit. A target object which has a wireless LAN receiver is tracked by using images captured by the camera. And the directional antenna faces in same direction as the camera by the pan-tilt unit. Therefore, the directional antenna keeps pointing the receiver, and a transmitting efficiency is improved. A result of a fundamental experiment shows that a receiver attached to a flying airship was tracked by a prototype of the proposed antenna system. The airship flied about, and the proposed antenna system was set on a roof of a building. The experimental result indicates an effectiveness of the proposed system compared to the conventional directional LAN antenna.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new W-band monopulse tracking system based on reflectarray antenna structure. The proposed reflectarray antenna monopulse tracking system consists of four feed horn antennas and a planar reflector using a microstrip reflectarray. The four feed horn antennas have a gain of 10 dBi and a half-power beam-width of 56 degrees symmetrically in the E/H plane. It was confirmed that the reflectarray antenna using one feed horn antenna has a size of 41.8 × 41.8 mm2, a gain of 26.8 dBi, and a half-power beam-width of about 5.6 degrees. The reflectarray monopulse tracking system using 4 feeding horn antennas is well matched from 75 GHz to 90 GHz, and the isolation is secured by more than 10 dB. Finally, the proposed system shows the tracking range of 5.98 degrees and the tracking error range was 0.02 degrees.
