This paper presents a comparative structural analysis of lattice hybrid tower with six legs with conventional tubular steel tower for an onshore wind turbine using finite element method. Usually a lattice hybrid tower will have a conventional industry standard 'L' profile section for the lattice construction with four legs. In this work, the researcher attempted to identify and analyze the strength of six legged lattice hybrid tower designed with a special profile instead of four legged L profile. And to compare the structural benefits of special star profile with the conventional tubular tower. Using Ansys, a commercial FEM software, both static and dynamic structural analyses were performed. A simplified finite element model that represents the wind turbine tower was created using Shell elements. An ultimate load condition was applied to check the stress level of the tower in the static analysis. For the dynamic analysis, the frequency extraction was performed in order to obtain the natural frequencies of the tower.
As recent construction projects aim to build higher and bigger buildings, lifting operation is getting increasingly important in construction sites. Accordingly, as tower cranes get higher and higher, disasters involving tower cranes are also on the rise. According to occupational incident statistics of the Korea Occupational Health & Safety Agency (KOHSA), most of such incidents occur in installation, dismantling and climbing phases of tower crane. Therefore, it is essential to develop preventative measures to secure safety of tower crane operations, with critical focus on installation, dismantling and climbing of tower crane. Hence, this research attempts to measure criticality of key risk factors in installation, dismantling and climbing phases of tower crane on construction site and propose necessary safety measures. As a result, conclusions herein will contribute to minimize disasters and incidents involving tower cranes in high-rise building construction sites.
Up to now the design standard of tower for overhead transmission line in KEPCO was revised four times since 1970. During last year. we had reviewed this design standard. This paper shows the design standard of tower for overhead transmission line in KEPCO. In this standard, a kind of tower was defined as standard tower and special tower. Also we had defined usage range of standard tower, tower height, arrangement of power line, design condition of tower arm and etc. On the wind pressure, we had defined basic velocity pressure per region and maximum wind pressure. For special region, design wind pressure will be considered the receded wind velocity of meteorological observatory and regional condition by this standard.
Input shaping has been a very effective control method for reducing payload swing in industrial bridge and gantry cranes. However, conventional input shapers often degrade performance when applied to tower cranes because of the nonlinear coupled dynamics between rotational and radial motions in tower cranes. To alleviate this problem, a new input shaper for tower cranes is developed by means of dynamic modeling, analysis and optimization. This work investigates the tower crane dynamics along with parameters of the tower crane varied. A performance index for input shaper design is proposed so as to reduce the coupled residual vibration of a tower crane using only rotational motion of tower crane. The proposed new input shaper is verified to be effective through simulations and experiments.
This paper relates to a method of modeling the thrust dynamic load caused by the thrust variation occurring on the blade due to the tower shadow below the rated wind speed. A method that uses thrust coefficient is presented by introducing "tower shadow coefficient of thrust variation". For a 2MW wind turbine, the values of "tower shadow coefficient of thrust variation" are calculated and analyzed at wind speeds below the rated. The dynamic load model of thrust under tower shadow is evaluated in Matlab/Simulink using the obtained "tower shadow coefficient of thrust variation" and thrust coefficient. It shows that the thrust variations acting on the three blades by the tower shadow can be expressed using both the thrust coefficient and the introduced "tower shadow coefficient of thrust variation".
Primarily, tower loads of a wind turbine arise from aerodynamic effect and a top head mass. But sometime asymmetric loads of rotor also affect on the tower loads. Especially ice formation on two blades out of three causes the asymmetric loads, because the ice formation on blades lead to large rotating mass imbalance. This rotating mass imbalance of rotor affects tower fatigue loads. So design load cases of ice formation on blade should be considered in the fatigue design loads of the tower according to GL guideline 2010. This paper describes the change of tower fatigue loads following increase of tower height in the condition of ice formation. Finally, the optimal operation strategy is examined in order to reduce tower fatigue design loads.
The heat produced by the fission in the fuel of HANARO, 30 MW research reactor, is transferred from the primary cooling water to the secondary cooling water through heat exchangers, and the heat absorbed by the secondary cooling water is released into the atmosphere by the 33 MW cooling tower which is a mechanical induced draft and counter flow type. If the outlet temperature of cooling tower exceeds 33 of due to the loss of the cooling tower performance under reactor operation above $50\%$ of the full power, the reactor power should be reduced to half of the full power for safe operation. Therefore, the cooling capability of cooling tower should be maintained for the reactor to be normally operated. To predict the capability of cooling tower for full power reactor operation of 30 MW, the performance test of cooling tower was done at the reactor present power of 24 MW and the capability was respectively evaluated by characteristics and performance curves methods in accordance with the Code of Cooling Tower Institute of U.S.A. to confirm the reliability of evaluation. As a result, it was confirmed, through the results of each evaluation, that the cooling capability of cooling tower meets the design required heat load. Also, the equations of the performance and the characteristics curves of the cooling tower, based on the collected data during this performance test, was obtained for developing the calculation program to predict the cooling capability during reactor operation.
With the development of wind industry, rated power of the wind turbine also increases gradually. Accordingly, size of the wind turbine tower is becoming larger. Tower base diameter of the 2MW wind turbine is about 4m. Larger tower is expected for 4MW or 5MW turbines. Due to limitation of transportation, new type of tower with smooth transportation and effective cost is needed. In this work, a hybrid tower consisting of steel and concrete is designed and analyzed. The optimum ratio of steel and concrete of the hybrid tower is calculated as well as the thickness of the concrete part. Different FE analysis including modal analysis, buckling analysis and static analysis are performed to check the design of hybrid tower comparing with the steel tower. Redesign is also expected after various analyses.
Unlike Tubular Steel Tower, This Composite Material Tower is a low-technology Component, whose design is easy to optimize, and which therefore during the design process-lends itself easily as an object for possible cost reduction at very little effort. This may come in useful as the cost of a tower usually significant part of the total cost of a structure. This paper is written by the Composite Materials Tower which loaded Complex loading in Off and On shore. This Composite Material Tower is made by the Method of Filament Winding, and the Component of Composite Material is used by the Roving RS220PE-535. When it loaded Complex trading, there is a results which is bigger than steel tower deflection. We controlled this 1a18e deflection by stiffeners which has thickness 20mm. At last, Off and On Shore Tower which used Composite Materials is compared with Off and On Shore Tower which used Steel.
Extremely long-span transmission tower-line system is an indispensable portion of an electricity transmission system, and its failures or collapse can impact on the entire electricity grid, affect the modern life, and cause great economic losses. It is therefore imperative to investigate the failure and safety of the transmission tower subjected to ground motions. In the present study, a detailed finite element (FE) model of a representative extremely long-span transmission tower-line system is established. A segmental damage indicator (SDI) is proposed to quantitatively assess the damage level of each segment of the transmission tower under earthquakes. Additionally, parametric studies are conducted to investigate the influence of different ground motions and incident angles on the ultimate capacity and weakest segment of the transmission tower. Finally, the collapse fragility curve in terms of the maximum SDI value and PGA is plotted for the exampled transmission tower. The results show that the proposed SDI can quantitatively assess the damage level of the segments, and thus determine the ultimate capacity and weakest segment of the transmission tower. Moreover, the different ground motions and incident angles have a significant influence on the SDI values of the transmission tower, and the collapse fragility curve is utilized to evaluate the collapse resistant capacity of the transmission tower subjected to ground motions.
