  • Background: Landing from a step or stairs is a basic motor skill but high incidence of lateral ankle sprain has been reported during landing with inverted foot. Objects: This study aimed to investigate the effect of landing height and visual feedback on the kinematics of landing and supporting lower limbs before and after the touch down and the ground reaction force(GRF)s. Methods: Eighteen healthy females were voluntarily participated in landing from the lower (20 cm) and the higher (40 cm) steps with and without visual feedback. To minimize the time to plan the movement, the landing side was randomly announced as a starting signal. Effects of the step height, the visual feedback, or the interaction on the landing duration, the kinematic variables and the GRFs at each landing event point were analyzed. Results: With eyes blindfolded, the knee flexion and ankle dorsiflexion on landing side significantly decreased before and after the touch down. However, there was no significant effect of landing height on the anticipatory kinematics on the landing side. After the touch down, the landings from the higher step increased the knee flexion and ankle dorsiflexion on both landing and supporting sides. From the higher steps, the vertical GRF, anterior GRF, and lateral GRF increased. No interaction between step height and visual feedback was significant. Conclusion: Step height and visual feedback affected the landing limb kinematics independently. Visual feedback affected on the landing side while step height altered the supporting side prior to the touch down. After the touch down, the step height had greater influence on the lower limb kinematics and the GRFs than the visual feedback. Findings of this study can contribute to understanding of the injury mechanisms and preventing the lateral ankle sprain.

  • Touch interface has been introduced as one of the most common input devices that are widely used in the Smart Device. Recently Force-Touch interface, a new approach of input method, having the power recognition mechanism, has been appeared in Smart industries. Force-Touching determining multiple things (the geographical and pressure values of touching point) in one touching act allows users to provide more than one input methods in a limited environments. Force-Touching Device is required different user communicational interaction than other common Smart devices because it is possible to recognize various inputs in the one act. It means that Force-Touching is only able to understand and to use the pressure sensitive values, not other Smart input methods. So, we built Force-Touch-Cover that makes typical Smart-Device to have Force-Touching interfaces. We analysis the accuracy of the Force-Touching-Cover's sensor and also assessment the changes in pressure values depending on the pressure position. Via this Paper, We propose the implement of user-oriented Force-Touching interface that is based on users' feedback as our conclusion.

  • This paper describes design procedure of suboptimal control to minimize a performance index which is represented as sum of square output error and the heat input power in arc welding process. Heat input and temperature of a fixed point on the surface of the material are concerned as input and output of the process, repectively. The suboptimal control law considered here in is a proportional plus integral type and is implemented by using only the output variables available from sensor which is also optimally located in a fixed point w.r.t. a moving weld touch.

  • This paper presents a multiple sensor system for rapid and high-precision coordinate data acquisition in the OMM (On-machine measurement) process. In this research, three sensors (touch probe, laser, and vision sensor) are integrated to obtain more accurate measuring results. The touch-type probe has high accuracy, but is time-consuming. Vision sensor can acquire many point data rapidly over a spatial range but its accuracy is less than other sensors. Also, it is not possible to acquire data for invisible areas. Laser sensor has medium accuracy and measuring speed among the sensors, and can acquire data for sharp or rounded edge and the features with very small holes and/or grooves. However, it has range- constraints to use because of its system structure. In this research, a new optimum sensor integration method for OMM is proposed by integrating the multiple-sensor to accomplish mote effective inspection planning. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, simulation and experimental works are performed, and the results are analyzed.

  • Using a ray tracing simulation, we have investigated the moir${\acute{e}}$ and starburst phenomena of touch screen panels (TSPs) based on opaque metallic grids (square, hexagonal, and random grids). It is demonstrated that employing a random metal mesh is the most effective way to suppress the moir${\acute{e}}$ and starburst phenomena at the same time. At high crossing angles between metal mesh of TSPs and black matrix (BM) of displays, however, a random metal mesh brings in stronger moir${\acute{e}}$ phenomenon than a square metal mesh due to point defects. Though the square metal mesh suppresses the moir${\acute{e}}$ effect substantially at high crossing angles, yet it results in the strongest starburst patterns. We have also provided the simulation scheme that can capture the moir${\acute{e}}$ and starburst patterns observed experimentally and useful design guidelines for metal grids.

  • An important factor in eye-tracking PC interface for general paralyzed patients is the implementation of the mouse interface, for manipulating the GUI. With a successfully implemented mouse interface, users can generate mouse events exactly at the point of their choosing. However, it is difficult to define this interaction in the eye-tracking interface. This problem has been defined as the Midas touch problem and has been a major focus of eye-tracking research. There have been many attempts to solve this problem using blink, voice input, etc. However, it was not suitable for general paralyzed patients because some of them cannot wink or speak. In this paper, we propose a mouth-pop-up, eye-tracking mouse interface that solves the Midas touch problem as well as becoming a suitable interface for general paralyzed patients using a common RGB camera. The interface presented in this paper implements a mouse interface that detects the opening and closing of the mouth to activate a pop-up menu that the user can select the mouse event. After implementation, a performance experiment was conducted. As a result, we found that the number of malfunctions and the time to perform tasks were reduced compared to the existing method.
