BACKGROUD/OBJECTIVES: Evidence has suggested an association between serum vitamin D and metabolic syndrome (MetS), but prospective studies are very limited. The objective was to assess the dose-response association between serum vitamin D concentration and MetS risk using a systematic review and meta-analysis of updated observational studies. MATERIALS/METHODS: Using MEDLINE, PubMed, and Embase, a systematic literature search was conducted through February 2020 and the references of relevant articles were reviewed. A random-effects model was used to estimate the summary odds ratio/relative risk and 95% confidence interval (CI). Heterogeneity among studies was evaluated with I2 statistic. In total, 23 observational studies (19 cross-sectional studies, and four cohort studies) were included in the meta-analysis. RESULTS: The pooled estimates (95% CI) for MetS per 25-nmol/L increment in serum vitamin D concentration were 0.80 (95% CI, 0.76-0.84; I2 = 53.5) in cross-sectional studies, and 0.85 (95% CI, 0.72-0.98; I2 = 85.8) in cohort studies. Similar results were observed, irrespectively of age of study population, study location, MetS criteria, and adjustment factors. There was no publication bias for the dose-response meta-analysis of serum vitamin D concentrations and MetS. CONCLUSIONS: Dose-response meta-analysis demonstrated that a 25-nmol/L increment in the serum vitamin D concentration was associated with 20% and 15% lower risks of MetS in cross-sectional studies and cohort studies, respectively.
The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of variables in preparing TFC membrane by interfacial polymerization. Obtained results are as follow: As the concentration of MPD increses, the rejection rate incresed, the total volume flux was decresed. As the dipping time in MPD solution increases, the rejection rate increased, the total volume flux was increased until reach optimum point. As the dipping time in TMC solution increses, the total volume flux increased, the rejection rate was increased until reach optimum point. As the curing temperature increases, the total volume flux increased was an optimum point in the rejection rate. Since the quantity of generating hydrochloric acid was small, the required quantity of NaOH for neutriliztion was small. The post-treatment with ethanol, isopropanol and water in the temprerature ranging of $5~7^{\circ}C$ brought an increment of the rejection and the total volume flux, For water temperature ranging of $5~7^{\circ}C$was the optimum temperature in the post treatment.
We analysed 7,180 annual cases of surgical treatment performed by Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery of 6 major institutes in Seoul Korea, All cases were applied to 101 of 140 coded items applicable to the field of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, in the book of "Standard Price List for Medical Service" which was notified by the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, and of them, applied field specific items were 70 of 93 applicables. The most frequently applied items were those associated to ECC[extracorporeal circulation] 1,510 cases, and then item of closed thoracostomy 751 cases was next. Except the items associated to ECC, the coded item of the highest "Total cost[fee x total applied numbers]" was mitral valve replacement 182,356,570 won[534,770 won x 341 cases]. 140 items were arranged in "Total cost" order, and then categorized into 5 groups. Medical insurance fees of each group were modified by different grades without changes in sum of total fees. Fees of Group 1, the highest group in "Total cost" were pulled up, on the other hand, Group 4, the lowest group, were pulled down, Group 5, composed of overlapping items with other fields, were not changed. The result of adjustment by grouping showed 21.2% increment effect[535,749,105 won] in real income. And we found that new coded items for modern high technological procedures should be added to "Standard Price List for Medical Service “Standard Price List for Medical Service".
Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare total high order aberrations between surgery which uses TransPRK and general laser assisted sub-epithelial keratomileusis. Methods: The patients who had general laser assisted sub-epithelial and TransPRK laser assisted sub-epithelial by visiting ophthalmic clinic in Ulsan from January 2014 to August 2014 was researched. Results: When comparing total high order aberrations before and after operation, it was found that total high order aberration in general laser assisted sub-epithelial group increased to $0.222{\pm}0.078{\mu}m$ from $0.074{\pm}0.019{\mu}m$ while that in TransPRK assisted sub-epithelial group increased to $0.179{\pm}0.045{\mu}m$ from $0.076{\pm}0.032{\mu}m$. When comparing the increment in total high order aberrations between two groups after surgery, it was found that the increments of TransPRK assisted sub-epithelial group were statistically smaller than that of general laser assisted sub-epithelial group (p<0.05). Conclusions: This study made a comparative analysis of total high order aberrations between general laser assisted sub-epithelial and TransPRK assisted sub-epithelial which was introduced recently and the result showed a significant difference. The findings of this study suggest that TransPRK assisted sub-epithelial can be used widely in simply improving eye sight and quality of vision by reducing an increase in high order aberration caused by orthokeratology surgery. It is expected that TransPRK assisted sub-epithelial will be helpful for improving the understanding quality of eye sight which occurs by several methods of vision correction surgery.
Parenteral nutrition has been an essential part of postoperative care of neonates requiring major surgery who are unable to tolerate enteral feeding for long periods during the postoperative period. However, TPN via central venous catheters(central TPN), used in increasing trend, still presents significant morbidity. To find out whether TPN via peripheral veins(peripheral TPN) could be used as a viable alternative for postoperative parenteral nutrition in neonates, a clinical study was carried out by a retrospective analysis of 53 neonates subjected to peripheral TPN for more than 7 days after surgery. Operations consisted of procedures for esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula, gastroschisis and omphalocele. Surgery was performed at the Division of Pediatric Surgery, Department of Surgery, Hanyang University Hospitall, from 1983 to 1994. The mean total duration of TPN was 13.3 days (range; 7-58 days), the average daily total fluid intake was 117.6 ml/kg during TPN and 158.6 ml/kg during subsequent oral feeding. The average daily total calorie intake was 57.7 kcal/kg during full strength TPN and 101.3 kcal/kg during subsequent oral feeding. The mean urine output was maintained at 3.5 ml/kg/ hour during TPN and at 3.6 ml/kg/hour during subsequent oral feeding. The increment of body weight observed during TPN was 132 g in TEF, 53 g in gastroschisis and 3 g in omphalocele patients, while loss of body weight was not observed. The mortality rate was 5.7 %(3/53) and was related to the underlying congenital anomalies, not the TPN. The most common complication of peripheral TPN observed was laboratory findings suggestive of liver dysfunction in 23 cases(43.4 %) with no significant clinical symptom or signs in any case, transient pulmonary edema in one case, and generalized edema in one case. None of the major complications usually expected associated with central TPN were observed. The result of this study suggest that peripheral TPN can be used for adeguate postoperative nutritional support in neonates requiring 2 to 3 weeks of TPN.

Forest carbon stock changes in a national forest were assessed by CBM-CFS3 model with different management scenarios to support decision making for a long term forest planning. Management scenarios were composed with 4 different levels of timber harvesting - current harvesting level (scenario1), 30% increment in each period (scenario2), 3 times increment (scenario3), and 5 times increment (scenario4). For each scenarios, changes in total carbon stocks, carbon stocks of each carbon pools, carbon stocks of harvested wood products (HWP) and age class structure were estimated over 100-year planning horizon. The estimated total carbon stock including HWP at the end of final period (100 years) was 433.1 tC/ha under scenario 1, but the age class structure has skewed right to the upper classes, which is not desirable for sustainable forest management. Under the scenario 4, however, the total carbon stock decrease to 385.5 tC/ha and the area of old growth forest show a significant decline. The estimated total carbon stock under scenario 2 and 3 were 411.7 tC/ha and 410.5 tC/ha respectively, and it was able to maintain the initial level of the forest carbon stocks during the planning horizon. Also the age class structures under the scenario 2 and 3 were evenly distributed from class 1 to class 8. Overall, scenario 2 and 3 were the most acceptable forest management options, in terms of carbon stock changes and age class structure.
Changes of the biomass, net primary productivity and P/B ratio during abandoned field succession after shifting cultivation were investigated in Pyoungchang, Gangwon-Do, Korea. Aboveground standing biomass of herb species showed the maximum value (3.8 ton/ha) in the 5 year old-field, and decreased thereafter. Litter dry weight was depicted as a parabola form showing the gradual increment during the first 50 years and slight decrease thereafter. Basal area tended to increase logarithmically during abandoned field succession. Tree density showed the gradual increment during the first 15 years and decreased thereafter by the self-thinning process. In the later successional stage (80 years old-field), the shoot density distribution of the tree species by DBH class showed the reverse J shaped curve and Quercus mongolica dominated. Total standing biomass increased slowly in the earlier successional stages and later successional stages, and increased rapidly during the mid-successional stages ($10{\sim}50$ years old-field). Total standing biomass in the 5, 10, 20, 50 and 80 years old-fields were estimated 5, 14, 75, 251 and 373 ton/ha, respectively. Annual net primary productivity were depicted as a parabola form showing the gradual increment during the first 35 years and declined thereafter. The increment rates of the annual net primary productivity in the earlier successional stages showed the higher value than mid-successional stages. The annual net primary productivities in the 5, 10, 20, 35, 50 and 80 years old-field were estimated 8.6, 9.3, 12.9, 15.1, 13.7 and 3.6 ton/ha/yr, respectively. The estimated P/B ratio tended to decrease exponentially during abandoned field succession. The estimated P/B ratio in the 5, 10, 20, 50 and 80 years old-field were 0.60, 0.39, 0.19, 0.06 and 0.01, respectively. These results were fairly in accordance with the bioenergetics model during the forest succession projected by Odum(1969).
Purpose: Recently the occurrence of dipyridamole stress-induced short term stunning was proven and it is reported that Bland Altman analysis by repeated acquisition Tl-201 gated myocardial SPECT (gSPECT) revealed the 95% limit of agreement for LVEF was 10.3 %. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical value of dipyridamole induced transient LV dysfunction on Tl-201 gSPECT. Materials and Methods: Total 93 patients were included and coronary angiography was peformed in all patients less than 2 month from gSPECT. The patients with myocardial infarction were excluded. All patients underwent both dipyridamole stress and 4-h redistribution Tl-201 gSPECT. Forty nine patients of total 93 showed normal coronary arteries (Group 1) and the remaining 44 patients had coronary artery disease (Group 2). We compared LV EF, EDV and ESV during post-stress and 4-h redistribution period calculated by gSPECT using quantitative gated SPECT software and the incidence of dipyridamole induced transient LV dysfunction between group 1 and 2. The criteria for transient LV dysfunction was defined more decrease ${\geq}11%$ of LVEF during post-stress than 4-h redistribution according to previous reported Bland Altman analysis. Results: During post-stress and 4-h redistribution average of 3.1% increment in LVEF, 6.6% increment in LVEDV and 0.7% decrement in LVESV were shown after stress in Group 1, whereas 4.1% decrement, 9.7% increment and 7.2% increment in Group 2 respectively. Dipyridamole induced transient LV dysfunction was only detected in group 2 (18.2%) and not in group 1. It was more frequently observed in triple vessel disease and left main disease (31.8%, N=22) than one and two vessel disease (4.5%, N=22). Conclusion: As with Tc-99m myocardial agent post-stress LV dysfunction was observed in dipyridamole Tl-201 gSPECT. It was only detected in CAD and more frequently occurred in multivessel disease. Thus this finding seems to provide additional information in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease and prediction of prognosis.

The structures of oak stands were studied in relation to their productivity. Three plots classified by the site quality following to altitude, were selected on the oak stand located at Naryongri Eunsanmyun Buyeogun. The site qualities of the stand studied were generally estimated to be moderate in respect to some soil physical and chemical properties. Quercus variabilis was dominant species in the vegetation composition of the stand studied. The crown densities of the stand were varied from 65.4% in plot I to 78.2% in plot III and the parts, occupied with oak trees, ranged from 44.4% in plot I to 65.9% in plot III in the density. In the contrast to crown density, the growing stocks of oak trees ranged from $3.937m^3$ in plot I (73.4% of plot total) to $2.075m^3$ in plot III (84.3% of plot total). The occupied ratios, measured by crown class, exhibited dissimilarity between crown projection area and volume, and also the ratios brought into different patterns by plot. Highly significant correlations were proved between crown projection areas and volumes of individual oak trees by plot, but not proved in the relations by crown class. The cumulative growth, current annual increment and mean annual increment displayed various patterns by plot and by crown class in the heights, D. B. H. s and volumes of oak trees. The maximum values of current annual increment of height were generally recorded in 10 to 20 years, earlier than those of D. B. H. The mean annual increment of height, D. B. H. and volume maintained similar levels after about 10 years and fluctuated irregularly. The crown projection area and volume following to thinning decreased in the order of the thinning methods of grade A < grade B < crown thinning$90m^3/ha$ in about 40 years in the productivity of volume of the oak stand studied.

In this study, laboratory test was carried out on uniaxial compressive strength by making 320 specimens in total, which were divided into two groups considering the curing time of 7 and 28 days for 80 cases mixed with stabilizers of 8%, 10%, 12%, 14% of 20 cases of clayey, sandy, and gravel mixed ground conditions to understand laboratory strength characteristics of deep mixing specimen for field application in various ground conditions. As a laboratory result, all specimen showed a clear tendency to have uniaxial compressive strength increase as the curing time and the stabilizer mixing ratio increased, and the strength increments depending on the age by ground types were, around 40.0% for clayey and gravel mixed grounds, 48.4% for sandy grounds which was the highest, and for the increment of stabilizers, around 37.0% for grounds with mixing ratio less then 14%, and 49.6% when the ratio was 14% which was the highest. Also, with sandy grounds, it showed a tendency to have a constant amount of strength increment as the stabilizer mixing ratio increased, for clayey mixed grounds, the strength increment tendency seemed to be similar to gravel mixed grounds. Due to these tendencies, it is concluded that we are able to propose a stabilizer mixing ratio for various ground conditions.
