  • The capacity protection is normally related with slenderness effect of the columns, force transfer in connections between columns and adjacent elements, and shear design of columns. It is intends to prevent brittle failure of the structural components of bridges, so that the whole bridge system may show ductile behavior and failure during earthquake events. For bridge systems, this means it is necessary to assess the overstrength capacity of columns prior to proceeding with the design of foundation and superstructure. The objective of this paper is to develop a capacity design approach that applies an overstrength factor for determination of possible maximum shear force in the plastic hinge zone of reinforced concrete bridge columns. In order to estimate and determine overstrength factor, material strength was developed to investigate for actual material strength total 3,407 steel and 5,405 concrete by domestic product. Based on actual material strength, this paper was conducted on moment overstrength factors using moment-curvature analysis program. And also design recommendations for capacity design are presented to revise the annual report, KEERC 2002.

  • Subway routes $1{\sim}4$ were constructed in gravel roadbed track structure in consideration of the technological capabilities, construction cost and duration at the time of the initial construction. As such, 224.8km, approximately 81.2% of entire length, of total length of railway track at 276.9km was constructed on gravel roadbed. However, improvement of gravel roadbed to concreted roadbed began in 1998 due to problems including frequent repair works and limited time application for such works caused by occurrence of tract distortion during operation as well as lowering of roadbed functions and generation of dust caused by frictional power, impact absorption capabilities, abrasion and crushing of gravel on roadbed. Currently, this improvement is continuing with target of converting entire route into concreted roadbed structure. Therefore, this Study modifies formula for setting cant, analyze the correlation between wearing of rail side of the curvature and cant insufficiency following increasing of the running speed of the train, and to present the directions for fundamental review for adjustment of cant insufficiencies at the time of improvement of gravel roadbed to concreted roadbed that is being implemented on the operational tracks of the railway trains.

  • Moment Magnifier Method has been generally used in estimation of total column moment induced by geometric nonlinearity for reinforced concrete slender column design, however second order analysis such as P-${\Delta}$ method has been recommended by Code for better result. Member stiffness estimation is the most significant factor for accuracy of second order analysis. Equivalent Column stiffness based on theoretically obtained moment-curvature-thrust relationship has been proposed and the analytical results of the proposed method, MacGregor-Hage Method, Furlong's Method, and Moment Magnifier Method are compared with experimentally obtained data.

  • Prospective study of lymph node imaging of twenty stomach cancer cases with dissected lymph nodes being injected into the submucosa layer of stomach under surgical field was done. Total dose of 5 mci in 5 cc of volume was injected along the multiple sites of the lesser and greater curvature of stomach and collected lymph nodes within 2 hour of surgical time were placed under gamma camera and lymph node imagings were obtained. Pathological invasion of tumor and correlation of cold defect or hot uptake was compared each other. Tumor invasion of nodes revealed cold defect area which was correlated well with the pathological specimen. Correlation rate was 84.6%. We are planning to extend these procedures and trying endoscopic injection of positive imgaing agents such as Ga-73-3 Ig 2 alpha in future.

  • The flow through a centrifugal compressor rotor was calculated using the quasi-3-dimensional and fully 3-dimensional Navier-Stokes solution methods. The calculated results, obtained during the development of the computer codes for both methods are discussed. In the inviscid quasi 3-dimensional analysis, stream function formulation was used for the blade to blade (B-B) plane calculations, and the streamline curvature method was used for the meridional (H-S) plane calculations. In the viscous 3-dimensional flow analysis, a control volume method based on a general rotating curvilinear coordinate system was used to solve the time-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, and a standard k-.epsilon. model was used to obtain eddy viscosity. The quasi-3-dimensional analysis reasonably predicts the pressure distributions and requires much less computation time in the region where viscous effects are not strong; however, it fails to predict velocity field and loss mechanism through the impeller passage. The viscous 3-dimensional flow analysis shows reasonable pressure distributions and typical jet-wake flow field through the impeller passage. Secondary flow and total pressure distributions on cross-sectional planes explain the loss mechanisms through the impeller.

  • In recent years, an increment of river engineering activities and more intensive use of flood plain, the river geomorphology has attracted considerable attention owing to an extensive land reclamation. One of the important problems is the maintenance of river meanders and almost all natural rivers exhibit the tendency to be a meander. A statistical analysis is applied to typifying their shapes and the meander characteristics are analyzed by channel model of line generalization algorithm in this study. This method is applied to Han River System. The results show that the variance of curvature is a better index to describe the meander intensity and the kurtosis is a good index to characterize the total lengh of the straight sections for a given reach. The channel model of line generalization algorithm gives good results in analysis of meander characteristics.

  • A numerical simulation is carried out to investigate the effect of flow rate variation and performance characteristics of double-suction centrifugal pump. Two types of pump which have different impeller inlet breadth and curvature of the shroud line consist of six blades impeller and shroud ring. Finite-volume method with structured mesh and $k-\omega$ Shear Stress Transport turbulence model was used to guaranty more accurate prediction of turbulent flow in the pump impeller. Total head, power and overall efficiency were calculated to obtain performance characteristics of two types of pump according to the variation of flow rate. From the results, impeller having smooth curve along the shroud line obtained good performance. The lower flow rate, the more circulation region, flow unsteadiness and complicate flow pattern are observed. Complicated internal flow phenomena through impellers such as flow separation, pressure loss, flow unsteadiness and performance are investigated and discussed.

  • This study was done at 45 medical facilities located in Seoul. The purpose of study is twofold. First, this is to investigate usually who extmines patients for UGI and how many films are used for the examination. Secondly, this is to evaluate image qualities of UGI in terms of representation of lesser curvatures, amount of Ba and air and other criteria for the exam. The results are as follows : 1. In most cases, the UGI is examined by the Dr(67%), by the RT(22%), and together(11%). 2. The total films used ranged from 5 sheets(42%) to 7 sheets(18%). 3. The amount of Ba given to Pt. was mostly $200{\sim}300\;ml$(60%) and gastrografin was used $3{\sim}4\;g$(86.6%) for the examination. 4. For the evaluation of qualities, lack of representation of lesser curvature was 86.7%, lack of Ba and air and bubble formation was 62%, 46.7% and 42.2% respectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a checklist of risk factors for quantitative assessment of musculoskeletal complaints in shipbuilding workers. A key point was to develop comprehensive a checklist including the worker's physical ability, as ergonomic and workload factors. ln the first, through correlation analysis between musculoskeletal complaints and physical abilities in shipbuilding workers, risk factors related to physical abilities were selected. In the second, after the development of a checklist was composed of physical, ergonomic and workload factors, factor analysis was used to test the validity of the developed checklist. Each factors selected finally showed that physical factors were hand grip strength, spinal curvature, and flexibility (sit to reach), ergonomic factors were posture, total exposed time, duration, and force of working, and workload factors were physical and psychological workload perceived by worker. The results showed that musculoskeletal complaints was associated with physical abilities (p<.05). The developed checklist had a reliability of .761 (Cronbach=.761) and a validity and explanation of 54.9%. The criterion of management was classified in 4 stages by relative weights of each factor. It is suggested that active intervention is needed to reduce musculoskeletal complaints in workers with more than a 14.31 score.
